“Brothers and sisters: I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you, that the Lord Jesus, on the night he was handed over, took bread, and, after he had given thanks, broke it and said ‘This is my body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” Words so familiar, accompanied by the gestures of looking up, thanking, breaking

and giving. Every Eucharist the words of Paul, and of Jesus at the last supper echo in our ears. We might be surprised to know that Paul’s teaching of the Corinthians, predates the last supper accounts in the gospels. It was already known, repeated and celebrated. How interesting, we call that a ‘tradition’, a handing over. Paul uses the word twice in a different way. He hands the story to his disciples, and describes the handing over of Jesus for the passion. The great gift of the Eucharist brings us together with the Lord, forming a relationship with Him, making us one with each other and permits us to acknowledge a living Presence among us. At every mass, in every tabernacle, the Lord is present to be praised, adored, and loved with grateful affection. Remember the person who met Philip and said ‘Sir, we would like to see Jesus?’ He is here.

“Hermanos: Lo que yo recibí del Señor, y a mi vez les he transmitido, es lo siguiente: El Señor Jesús, la noche en que fue entregado, tomó el pan, dio gracias, lo partió y dijo: ‘Esto es mi Cuerpo, que se entrega por ustedes. Hagan esto en memoria mía.’” Palabras tan familiares, acompañadas de gestos de alzar la vista, dar gracias, partir y dar. En cada eucaristía, las palabras de Jesús y las de san Pablo hacen eco en nuestros oídos. Nos sorprendería enterarnos de que las enseñanzas de San Pablo a los corintios antecede a los relatos de la Ultima Cena de los evangelios. Ya era conocido, repetido y celebrado. Es interesante que lo llamamos ‘tradición’, un traspaso. San Pablo utiliza esta noción de traspaso dos veces en diferente forma. El le transmite la historia a sus discípulos y describe la entrega de Jesús para la pasión. El gran don de la eucaristía nos une al Señor, formando una relación con El, haciéndonos uno el uno con el otro y permitiéndonos reconocer una Presencia viva entre nosotros. En cada misa, en cada tabernáculo, el Señor está presente para ser alabado, adorado y amado con amorosa gratitud. ¿Recuerda a la persona que le dijo a Felipe: ‘Señor, queremos ver a Jesús’? El está aquí.

“Onoriamo e adoriamo oggi il “Corpo del Signore”, spezzato e donato per la salvezza di tutti gli uomini, fatto cibo per sostenere la nostra “vita nello Spirito”. Gesù ha moltiplicato i pani e i pesci per nutrire la folla che lo seguiva: il cibo fisico agisce in me anche quando non ci penso, anche quando dormo si trasforma in carne, sangue,

energie vitali. Il cibo spirituale è diverso: è efficace se io collaboro con Cristo, che vuole trasformare la mia vita nella sua. L’Eucaristia è la festa della fede, stimola e rafforza la fede. I nostri rapporti con Dio sono avvolti nel mistero: ci vuole un gran coraggio e una grande fede per dire: “Qui c’è il Signore!”. Se guardo a me stesso, mi trovo sempre piccolo, imperfetto, peccatore, pieno di limiti. Eppure Dio mi ama, come ama tutti gli uomini, fino a farsi nostro cibo e bevanda per comunicarci la sua vita divina, farci vivere la sua vita di amore. L’Eucaristia non è credibile se rimane un rito, il ricordo di un fatto successo duemila anni fa. È invece una “scuola di vita”, una proposta di amore che coinvolge tutta la mia vita: deve rendermi disponibile ad amare il prossimo, fino a dare la mia vita per gli altri. Secondo l’esempio che Gesù ci ha lasciato.

RENEW AND REBUILD PARISH CAMPAIGN

Our parish can stand tall and proud for the generous pledges received as we began to raise $500,000 over the next five years. Many contributed by way of pledges

and actual gifts. With the pledges and gifts we have now reached 53 percent of the total asked.

There are pledge cards in the pews this weekend for those who wished to think about a pledge

or those who were not here last weekend. I am heartened by your generosity and we

continue to pray together for the success of our RENEW AND REBUILD CAMPAIGN.

Nuestra parroquia puede mantenerse orgullosa por las generosas promesas recibidas
