And this week has not been an excepon. STEAM –all things Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathemacs was celebrated right across the school. Classrooms have been filled with children engaged in scienfic invesgaons; workshops were taken at the Crick Instute and trips to the Science Museum and Body World; discussions had on polar exploraons with engineers. These were some of the excing acvies experienced by the children. You might want to ask the Y6s about plasnaon! They whole school loved every minute of Professor Bubbleworksengaging assembly and Woodlands had the wonderful Candoco Dance Company work with them on forces through dance! My thanks to Ms Jacobs, our Science Leader, who organised this wonderful week. The iThink Lab, our special collaborave space for STEAM was transformed during the day for experiments with the Crick Instute and even a special teaching session for the teachers! And on Wednesday evening, it was the venue for a very special guest- Andria Zafarikou, winner of the Global Teacher Prize! Ms Zafarikou won a £1million prize for her work in her secondary school where she was the art teacher . She successfully developed studentsart skills, building their confidence and shared examples of the young peoples aspiraons. We were proud to have hosted the event which was organised by the Chartered College and aended by teachers from London schools. I am delighted to inform you that the school was successful in bidding for funding to build an Art Room for use by the school community. The £75k grant from Camden Givingwhich administers the HS2 Camden Fundaims to support Camden communies during the construcon of the high speed railway. Our own construcon works will start in the half term holiday. The plan is for us to have a wonderful new art teaching space available from the start of the Summer term, aſter the Easter break. The Art Room will be located adjacent to the pond in the environmental area. The pond area will therefore be inaccessible during the build period. As this area is completely gated, there will be no changes to the access arrangements into the school. We will keep you informed of any changes as the works progresses. It is a very excing development and one that will have a huge impact on our community. Happy Lunar New Year to our Chinese families! Ms Zafarikou won a £1million prize for her work in her secondary school where she was the art teacher . She successfully developed students’ art skills, building their confidence and shared examples of the young people’s aspirations. We were proud to have hosted the event which was organised by the Chartered College and attended by teachers from London schools. I am delighted to inform you that the school was successful in bidding for funding to build an Art Room for use by the school community. SIGN OF THE WEEK

Mr.Morris is looking for glass jars for a whole school project in July.

Between now and July, don’t throw out any glass jars. Instead, wash them out and bring them into school. Children can bring

them to Mr.Morris’ office.

All will be revealed in July. He needs 300 glass jars…so please start collecting!

Professor Bubbleworks, a scientist, did an assembly for us about air! It was interactive and fun. Science is exciting and there is so much we

can learn through experiments!

I enjoyed how we could see the air with the smoke circles! – Fizzah

I learnt that candles need oxygen to keep burning. – Fatah

I was amazed that one ring of air could blow down a tower of cups! – Darya

I found it fun at the end where he blew the toilet roll with the hair dryer and blew it all over us! – Adil

I liked when he put the ping pong balls and balloons over the hairdryer and it was flying up in the air! – Mehek

I found it very interesting when the fire blew out when a cup was put over it because it needed oxygen. – Hashim

I loved the way you could see the air and it was really fun when the toilet paper went over us! - Nikki

To further our learning about the human body Year

6 went on a trip to Bodyworlds. We learnt about anatomy, physiology and health by viewing real human bodies

preserved through Plastination, the preservation process invented by Dr. Gunther von Hagens in 1977. We were

taken on an exciting journey of discovery under the skin. We were in awe of this exhibition and found it really

interesting!

Gate Reminder

A reminder to parents/carers that the main building is not an entrance or exit to the school. The only time this route can be

used is if you need to speak with the main office. The main route in and out of the school is William Road gate and Netley

Street available as an exit only. Thank you.

Parents Evenings

Parents evenings will be the week after half term (week beginning 25th February). These meetings are 10 minutes to discuss the progress and

attainment of your child. We look forward to sharing all the good things your child has achieved and strategies to improve further.

World Book Day!

We shall celebrate World Book Day on Friday

8th March. Our theme is The Weird and

Wonderful World of Roald Dahl. We would

love it if everyone could come as a character

from a Roald Dahl book. There are some excellent Roald

Dahl examples here, http://www.madeformums.com/

toddler-and-preschool/last-minute-easy-world-book-

day-costumes/28883.html but don’t feel you have to

use those; go wild and use your imagination. Pupils who

swim on a Friday morning can either wear their

costumes to walk to swimming or, if the costume is not

suitable for that, they may bring it to school in a bag and

change into it upon their return.

WOODLANDS

We have been working with Candoco dance company! We have been exploring forces and speed through dance and movement for STEAM week.

YEAR 3

For STEAM week, we have been designing our own vehicles. We considered force, friction and how ve-hicles will drive across vari-ous terrain. We have also used google maps to plan a route from Netley Primary school across Africa!

YEAR 1

We have been helping the three billy goats to cross the river. We have worked so well in teams to test materials and make boats.

YEAR 4

We had an amazing time at the Science Museum on Monday, watching the show 'It Takes Guts!' learning all about The Digestive System.

YEAR 5

We visited the Crick Institute for STEAM week. We did some serious science! We loved the tricky experiments and

can't wait to make oobleck! Take a look at out tweets on Twitter.

YEAR 6

We had our workshop in the iThink Lab. It was about “Science Communication” and we used microscopy to illustrate the importance of good communication in science. We were trained to use microscopes properly and did presentations on

how to teach others to use them.

ASH CLASS

We have been busy saving our planet Earth by Recycling! This term in English we are reading the story of Michael Recycle. We looked at things we use every day that can be recycled, reused and reduce. Can you help save our planet too?

RECEPTION

On Tuesday, we celebrated Chinese New Year. We did dragon dancing, cooked stir fry and spring rolls and tasted different Chinese teas. We have explored the pentatonic scale (5 musical notes) one wooden xylophones and learned to play a

Chinese New Year song. 恭禧發財 Gung Hay Fat Choy!

YEAR 2 This week as part of STEAM week, we tested different materials to investigate which was the most suitable one to use to build a tent; had a workshop with the Crick and we visited the science museum to go on a material hunt. We even spotted a model of the plane that Amelia Earhart was flying when she vanished.

ACORNS

Playing and exploring are how we learn and find out about new things. In Acorns we love to get messy and use our senses to gather new information. This week we sprinkled flour on to black paper and made different marks, including footprints and brush strokes.
