THE NETLEY POST #19
Dear Parents and Carers,
My apologies to the nursery parents for having had to close the school yesterday and not sending out a schoop to inform you that school was open today. We closed the school because of a breakdown of the boiler. Despite many attempts from 7 am on Thursday, we were unable to restore the heating and the decision had to be made to close for the day. I apologise for any inconvenience caused. There has been much in the press about poor air quality in city centres, particularly with the Mayors from our regional cities convening in London for the Clean Air Summit. Mr Murphy has been liaising with the Council to find ways in which to reduce the air pollution within the school grounds. You will know that we already have invested in air purifiers in some classrooms. We plan to extend these to all classrooms in the near future. Another measure that we have taken is to install artificial foliage on the main gates at Netley Street. Watch this space! All keystage 1 and 2 classes will be holding parents evenings on the first week back. Please make sure you have booked to meet with your child’s teacher. Please use the half term to get your child kitted out in the right uniform, including black shoes and the appropriate PE kit. It takes 2 weeks to buy the uniforms online. So please make sure you order these well in advance. I have been informed that some children have brought in nuts into school. Please avoid doing so, as some children may have an allergic reaction to nuts. Finally, a huge well done to the Year 5 children and staff for a lovely sharing assembly. They spoke well and enjoyed the process of interviewing for an Artic Apprentice job! I hope the weather stays warm and sunny during the half term. Please make sure your child is reading and practising their timetables and handwriting. We return on Monday 25th February 2019. Have a lovely half term.

Note to Parents/Carers
Are you a parent or carer of a child or young person with Special Educational Needs? Camden Special Educational
Needs will be hosting a drop in session at 5 Pancras Square on 12th March 2019 between 10am and 12pm where you
can meet with one of the team to discuss any queries. Please email [email protected] with your
name and phone number so that we can call you back to book you an appointment with the right person.
Appointment times will initially be for 10 minutes. In cases where follow up work may be required we will agree next
steps with you.
Don’t forget that times table books, number bond books and spelling books are for sale in the office. Each 50p or
£1. Great for helping your child practise at home.

We are considering installing artificial hedging along parts of the school fencing and gates on Netley Street. This is just one of many actions which the school is considering aimed
at reducing the levels of air pollution within the school buildings and grounds, as recommended in an Air Quality
Audit which was carried out through the Mayor of London’s
office. We currently have a small sample of our preferred artificial
hedging installed on the fence. We hope that you agree with us in
thinking that, as well as helping to trap some air pollutants, it will
improve the ambience of the school grounds and local neighbourhood.
Camden Primary Maths Challenge Day
Four of our very best mathematicians represented Netley at the annual Camden Primary Maths Challenge day on Wednesday 13th February, coming in eighth place in the
competition. As the name suggests, it was a day filled with really difficult challenges that required an excellent knowledge of all areas of maths, teamwork and problem solving skills.
Darya, Fatah, Abdalla and Naeemah all rose to the occasion admirably, demonstrating maturity, resilience and great stamina. A special thank you to Miss
Khanom who supported them brilliantly throughout the day.
Debate Mate
Well done to all of our Debate Mate club children for a brilliant half term. Our after school club competed in the first round of the Urban Debate
League at Carlton Primary School and showed off all the skills they have been learning; many of our children are new to the club this year and are
showing great promise in the debating arena. There will be two more competitions next half term so stay tuned for more Debate Mate updates!
Mental Health Quote of the week
“It's up to you today to start making healthy choices. Not choices that
are just healthy for your body, but healthy for your mind.”
Steve Maraboli
Happy half-term Holiday!
WOODLANDS
We experimented with bubbles, glitter and paint this week. We had a lot of fun and created new colours!
YEAR 3
In Art we have been continuing our STEAM theme by looking at different natural forces. We have created artwork inspired by nature. We tried really hard to show the movement on
what we were creating. Look at one of our amazing results!
YEAR 1
We have been counting how many days we've been in Year 1 and we were very excited to reach day 100 this week! We then had fun estimating how many more days we have left to learn this year.
YEAR 4
We have been learning all about the roads that the Romans built over 2000 years ago! We used atlases to map out the roads that they built in Britain. Some remains can even be seen around Britain today.
YEAR 5
We were lucky enough to have some fantastic Shakespeare workshops this week to prepare us for our next topic, Romeo and Juliet!
YEAR 6
We have been using our oracy and drama skills to debate the pros and cons of evacuation during World War 2. In maths we worked on interpreting data from different diagrams, graphs and tables.
ASH CLASS
We have been busy writing a shopping list of ingredients to make Gingerbread Men. We were super excited when making and decorating them. “Run, run as fast as you can you can’t catch me I’m the gingerbread man!” … “But I will!” said Azreen.
RECEPTION
We have been keeping warm and keeping our bodies healthy by exercising on the climbing frame. We explored the different parts of our bodies we can push and pull with.
YEAR 2 We have been working very hard on our maths. We have practised using our times tables to help us solve tricky multiplication word problems. We have also learnt to measure
accurately. We discovered that it is 25m from one side of the walking zone to the other!
