    SHRINE HIGH SCHOOL

    FOOTBALL GAME:

    Skype meeting on Saturday. Sean

    Considine will be doing the dinner

    on July 12th. The football game is

    June 13th. Would like a lot of

    Shrine units. Larry Keyser is Pa-

    rade Marshall for our units. Need

    more parade units & clubs.

    MEMBERSHIP :

    Jerry Minor was dressed for the

    70’s. June 15, 2013 is the 70’s

    dance. Jerry also provided a list of

    upcoming events. Clubs & Units

    could send representatives to help

    with membership for the Clubs &

    Units. He also mentioned the IL

    CHIP program that was just held at

    Pecatonica Lodge. They received 6

    inquirers for Masonic petition, and

    3 of those are interested in moving

    on to be Shriners.

    ROCKFORD SPEEDWAY: Hollie Guist reported on ―Racin’

    for the Kids‖ will be Aug. 17th.

    Read a letter via the hospital of a

    patient that started at the hospital at

    the age of 9 months. This helps tell

    people what we do.

    OLD BUSINESS: None

    NEW BUSINESS: Polo Lodge – Dan Hartmann re-

    ported there will be a Chili and

    Oyster dinner on Thursday, March

    21 starting at 6:00 p.m.

    Wilbert Hecht recommended a new

    Mason for membership.

    Read a petition from Paul Thorne,

    accepted. Circus contract for 2013

    – 2016 with Hamid Circus ap-

    proved. Motion made by Dave

    Giamalva, 2nd by Bruce Sumpter

    for $1000.00 donation for Jack

    Atchison’s car. Question asked

    about whether it is in the budget,

    motion carried.

    GOOD OF THE ORDER:

    Les McClelland reported on O.G.

    school. Imperial Doug Maxwell

    presented on the sound financial

    footing of the hospitals. Les stated

    that he learned a bunch, and that all

    the sessions were very worthwhile.

    All help and assistance to the

    Wounded Warriors project will be

    covered by Tri-Care. Chuck Slater

    stated the importance of taking

    care of your car when you have left

    it if only for an hour or so in the

    parking lot.

    Illustrious Sir John introduced

    Rick Anderson, and the newest

    member of the fraternity, Paul

    Hoffman.

    Anybody can achieve any-thing. Do you believe that? I do! But there is a caveat that must be made. Those who succeed are those who walk through the door of opportunity when it swings open. That we know! But what is the secret to getting through the door of opportunity? I believe that we must be at the door when it swings open. In other words we must not only be present but ready for the moment.

    I understand that Frank Sinatra got his big break while working as a waiter. One day, as he was waiting ta-bles, who does he see sitting in the restaurant, but one of the biggest names in the music industry? Old Blue Eyes did the unbelievable: He cleared off a table next to the gentleman and got up on it and sang! He knew he was done at the restaurant for doing so, but how many times would this door of op-portunity open up? Needless to say, the rest is history.

    You may remember the stage-hand for Kenny G who one day was in the auditorium with Kenny, just the two of them, when he started to play every song for him on the piano that was set up. Kenny didn’t even know the guy could play the piano. Guess who is now the lead keyboardist for Kenny G? You got it!

    You see, we never know when the door of opportunity is going to open wide. For some, the big break comes early in life and for others later on. But for all of those who become successful, there is one key similarity: They were ready! And for every one of those who were ready, there were thousands more who weren’t. It wasn’t because they couldn’t do the job, it was because they weren’t ready for the moment.

    As members of Tebala Shrine are you ready to move forward and re-gain the stature reflective of being a Shriner? It is very easy to look around and recognize that our membership is smaller today. That it requires more effort to achieve our goals. If that is all you can see then I have to say you are not ready to walk through the door of opportunity open before us.

    I happen to see a wide open door way ready for us to walk through. It will take renewed effort, and strong commitment as well as a willingness to go the extra mile. We stand on a threshold of new glory however we

    must be willing to put, as my coach once said, additional skin in the effort.

    The fact is there are children out there that are not even born yet that will require our assistance in order to have an opportunity for a good life. We already have children and grand-children in this world as well as friends and neighbors that are looking for men-tors to pattern their lives after. We are all being watched to see if we have the gumption to walk through this doorway to greater accomplishment. Nothing great ever materializes without some-body willing to do what is needed.

    I know, like many of you, I look at my personal schedule and wonder, what else can I do to make a positive difference in the Shrine, the Scottish Rite, and my Blue Lodge. I have heard myself say I can’t be in two or four places at the same time. I contin-ue to serve with my wife who is also an officer on the line for the Daughters of The Nile as a Co-Pastor of a church in Lindenwood, Illinois. I have accepted the invitation to work for a friend of mine as Director of Marketing, and I serve as Chaplain for our Tebala Tem-ple and now have the privilege of serv-ing as Oriental Guide. As Oriental Guide I have been assigned the re-sponsibility of being more involved with some of the Units and Clubs. In addi-tion, I am accountable to each of you both morally and legally as an elected official on the Line to provide appropri-ate leadership and guidance to our fra-ternity. I also know that I am strongly committed to being better than I was yesterday and better tomorrow than I am today. I also know that I am not alone in this commitment

    I do not share these commit-ments with you lightly because I per-sonally know others who have more commitments than I have and are cur-rently serving our temple in a variety of different ways. The point I want to make and hope is being reflected is your fraternity needs your interest, your involvement, your drive, your support. We need your willingness to get re-involved once again; we need your drive, your personal commitment to make a difference by deliberately choosing to be the difference!

    I also know and understand for some of you driving may have become problematic due to physical circum-stances. If that is the case know that once we are aware of this and you are

    interested and desire to become more involved than you have been then let us know. Give me a personal call at 815-222-7943 or send me an email at [email protected]. I am cer-tain we can get our heads together and figure out a game plan that will empow-er you with the ability to once again become personally involved with a mis-sion that is critical to the welfare of oth-ers. In addition I am certain you will once again find some of the laughter and joy that always comes when you are around others that have a common goal and interest in life.

    It is important to realize also that this journey of life we are all on includes the presence of a spouse, son, daughter, or friend. Perhaps what we need to do is invite them to come with us on this journey. Masonry can be a family experience. Let us em-brace all of it and become blessed in the process.

    So, the question for us is are we ready? Are you ready? Here are some thoughts for you to consider. Are your skills as sharp as they could be at this point in your life? Notice I did not say are they as sharp as they use to be but as they could be? Is your charac-ter deep enough? I personally invite you to step forward and choose to make a difference. The door way to increased good and wholeness is open and ready for all of us to walk through. I invite you to join us in our journey for-ward. Don’t just sit and wish and dream. Be proactive and start today to get yourself physically capable of walk-ing through this open door way for in-creased joy and happiness. You are needed!

    Shhh. Do you hear that? Hing-es creaking! It is the sound of the door opening. Your door of opportunity! Now is the time to move forward. Join me and others on this journey.     LOVES PARK SHRINE CLUB NEWS…(and random thoughts)

    As I previously informed …..you

    will

    have to wait until the June issue to

    find out about our first meeting of

    the year. UNLESS: you attended as

    I urged you to do.

    An Augie update: Fishing hasn’t

    been too good in Arizona this year.

    My prediction was half right. Augie

    caught the most (2 or 3) but Lady

    Karen didn’t even wet a line. She’s

    waiting for the challenge of Wiscon-

    sin waters…I’m sure she will end up

    with the biggest. By the time you

    read this Augie will have sold many,

    many bags of onions for the Club.

    He has been the top seller for the

    club for many, many years also.

    Noble Ray Olson sent his dues for

    2013 all the way from Sun City, AZ.

    He will be returning soon and is

    looking forward to the Parade Sea-

    son. Our Parade Chairman, Noble

    Gene Snyder is working on a very

    ambitious season for us this year.

    Looking ahead to June….keep in

    mind the Club is the Host for the

    June Temple meeting.

    Our P. O. Box is still waiting for

    new or renewed members. Dues are

    $10.15 per year.

    With a wondrous look on his face, the puls out a handful of quarters from his packet and says, ―You mean

    they’re gonna PAY me too?‖

    PONY EXPRESS

    At a Milwaukee post office, a woman complained to the clerk that a Pony Express rider could get a letter

    from Milwaukee to St. Louis in two days, and now it takes three. ―I’d like to know why,‖ she scoffed.

    The clerk thought about it for a moment, then his face brightened and he replied, ―The horses are a lot old-

    er now?‖

    PARKED CARS IN THE SNOW

    It had been snowing for hours when an announcement came over the intercom: ―Will the students who are

    parked on University Drive please move their cars so that we may begin plowing.‖

    Twenty minutes later there was another announcement. ―Will the twelve hundred students who went to

    move 26 cars please return to class.‖

    Tebala Shrine will be manning the gates and will have a 10x 10 tent May 31st from 2:45p.m. until

    8:15p.m. at Rockford City Market held on Water Street and East Tate Street; we will need volunteers. I

    would like to have those interested in helping promote our fraternity to contact Jerry Minor if interested. I

    would like those from the many Masonic organizations to participate in this event. Blue Lodge , Nile,

    Rainbow, O.E.S., Scottish Rite, York Rite, DeMolay, and Jobs Daughters wear clothes that represent your

    group, bring brochures, petitions, be ready to talk why your group is important, how to join, and the kind

    of fun you have to offer. Please send to the membership chairman at Tebala a list of your important com-

    munity events that you want to promote so we can list them on a hand out flyer. Also promote this day

    with all your family and your Masonic brothers and sisters as well. This will be as successful as you want

    Every day, around 44,000 pints of blood are needed in hospitals. Individuals who are 17 years

    of age weighing at least 110 pounds and generally in good health may be eligible to donate

    blood.

    The DeKalb County Forty and Eight along with Heartland Blood Centers have joined forces

    with the DeKalb County Veterans Assistance Commission and the DeKalb Masonic Lodge 144

    to schedule several blood drives locally.

    Tebala Shrine Center

    The Annual Shrine Hospital Donor Representative meet-

    ing will be held April 12 at the Chicago unit. This is a very

    constructive event as all fourteen rep’s converge and describe

    how they raise money. The weekly Shrinelines publication

    also mentions the various events throughout the Chicago

    Hospital area that are performed to raise funds. I received an

    email recently describing how the Shrine has worked with H & R Block as a fundraising opportunity.

    One recent gift to the hospital was created by having a farmer donate 222 bushels of soybeans because

    the hospital had helped his daughter. The Shrine Football game will be held Saturday, July 13 at the

    Tucci Stadium in Bloomington. We hope to have a good turnout from Tebala. Remember to be looking

    for patients and remembering the hospital in your will. Bill Condon, Donor Representative

    RACING FOR THE KIDS: WOW! Can you believe it? Spring is just around the corner. What does that mean? Racing season is here. The Daytona 500 has happened and NAS-

    CAR is in full swing. Well this year’s “RACING FOR KIDS” will be Saturday, August 17th and be

    combined with a “Back to School” night at the Rockford Speedway as the kids start school that week. Plans are under way for the various events that evening, but one thing is for sure. We will

    be “HAVING FUN and HELPING KIDS”! That’s what Shriner’s do! So mark this date down in

    your calendars and plan on being a sponsor this year. There will be a barbeque prior to racing for

    Tebala ticket holders. Kids ages 11 and under get in

    free.

    THE 62nd

    Tebala Shrine Circus is Coming

    The time is fast approaching for the 62nd

    annual Tebala Shrine Circus. The first performance of this year’s circus will be at 12:30 PM on Friday, May 31

    st, 2013 at the Indoor Sports Center on Riv-

    erside Boulevard in Loves Park, Illinois. There will be nine performances in total. There will be three shows on May 31

    st, June 1

    st, and June 2

    nd. The performances each day will be at 12:30 PM,

    4:00 PM and 7:30 PM The Tebala Shrine Circus is one of the primary fund raisers for our Shrine Center. Your help is needed in making this Tebala Shrine fund raiser a success. The purchase of your Circus ticket vouchers and volunteering at the circus are a great help to your Tebala. There are many jobs to be done at the Shrine Circus. There is a job for everyone that shows up to work. Remember that many hands make light work. The Tebala Shrine Circus dates are May 31
