2017-2018

IT’S GREAT TO BE A LION

I am proud to say we now have a 2nd

Vice District Governor for district 3

-E. Lion Dollie Wooddell has ste-

ped up to the plate for this position.

As most of you know Dollie has

been a hard worker for many years

for our district. She has served sev-

eral years as a zone chairperson as

well as handle the Peace Poster

Contest. She was instrumental in

putting together the Cowboy Cadil-

lac drawing in Bartlesville in No-

vember.

Don’t forget to support these state

projects, they need our help to meet

their budgets.

Meadows of Hope

Oklahoma Lions Service Founda-

tion;

Eugene Briggs Scholarship;

Oklahoma Eye Bank

Bristow Lions; Bristow LEO’s are

getting ready for the next stage play

in the local performer arts facility in

Bristow. These LEO’s are from the

Bristow High School and will soon

be involved in many activities for

their performances.

Broken Bow Lions; had a busy

month with great guest speakers

such as Kenny Sivard giving ac-

counts of the McCurtain County

Historical Society and the work that

they do preserving our history, Mr.

Pelton with the Indian Bible Camp

in Ringold; honoring high school

seniors of the month and planning

our annual 3-person scramble golf

tournament fundraiser set for June 2

at Cedar Creek Golf Course on the

banks of beautiful Broken Bow

Lake.

Chel-

sea Lions; Members have been

busy with fund raiser activities and

Henryetta Lions; Lion of the day

Ashley Morris & her guest Amber

Pippin, both employed at First Fam-

ily Federal Credit Union, spoke to

us today about services available

thru FFFCU. Ashley told us about

the various branch location, differ-

ent types of accounts and benefits.

Amber is a Financial Counselor and

spoke about her abilities to advise

others through financial decisions,

credit building & financial difficul-

ties.

Jay Lions; Jay Lions have an inter-

esting venue for their meetings, in

the Delaware County Historical Mu-

seum.

Okmulgee Lions; Please read the

newspaper article, a very interesting

program. Maybe something Lions

need to check into sponsoring for

the schools. I have already had one

person who will underwrite one

board.

South Grand Lake Lions; We

want to recognize two outstanding

Leos for their hard work and dedica-

tion. Throughout the 2017-2018

school year, this brother-sister duo

(just sister in the picture) went

above and beyond! They were at

every Lions Club Fundraiser, they

were always the first ones to arrive

and the last ones to leave and al-

ways kept a good attitude!

That leadership and dedication did

not go overlooked and we are so

proud to call them our little Lions!!!

Congratulations, Griselda Castro

and Jacob Castro on receiving $125

each! Enjoy your spending money!

I absolutely love this picture. From

the handmade Lions Club vest that

Ali is wearing to the woman that

she is proudly sitting by. This pic-

ture shows just how blessed we

truly are and it shows that being a

Lion is not only a way of life, but

also a life of giving. Thank you,

Linda, for all that you do, she still

wears it proud.

Tahlequah Lions; Getting ready to

send some Optometry students to

South America to help fit eye

glasses to those in need. These

glasses come from the area Lions

clubs so the students can go through

and find the ones best to take with

them and able to fit into existing

frames.

Raise Your Paws if You're Proud to be a

Lion!

We desperately need the help of

your Lions Club. As you know

Helen Keller asked the Lions in

1925 to be Knights of the Blind.

In an effort to do that and espe-

cially during White Cane month.

We need your club to activate

their Eyeglass program for your

area. It may be certain zip codes

in a metropolitan area or it may be

your namesake community.

We receive hundreds of calls a

month from people who need help

getting an eye exam and glasses.

Would you rekindle that fire that

was lit way back in 1925 and

bring your program back or step

it up to help all age groups. So

many of the children can be

helped through Sooner Care but

the adults and seniors desper-

ately need you help.

Will you do it? Write me an email

at [email protected] and tell

me your Club is onboard and

ready to help.

Roar!!!

I hope that you are doing just that! Are

you embarrassed to roar? I was invited to

attend a program with the Okmulgee Club

back in November. One of their members,

Lion Dean Craig knew I was interested in

having Jill Donovan with Rustic Cuff speak

at my District Convention. He knew that

this would give me an opportunity to meet

her and invite her to speak. While she was

there she challenged everyone to go to her

store in Tulsa and walk in and just ROAR 3

times!!!! Would this be embarrassing to

do? Some might think so as you walk in to

a public place of business and just stand

there and roar loudly! Not once but 3

times!!! Her reward for doing this was a

$100 gift card to her store. I took my

daughter with me and asked if she wanted

to do this. She said yes so we did. As we

walked in the store, we waited for the la-

dies behind the counter to finish with a

customer and we stood there and looked

at them. I asked my daughter if she was

ready……the ladies asked “Are you going to

roar?” I said “Yes”. And we did! Loud!!!

There was no embarrassment in doing

this! I was proud! Yes, I know my reward

was a $100 gift card but I was able to show

these ladies I’m a Lion and proud!

Don’t be embarrassed to tell someone

about Lions and all we do in our communi-

ties and around the world! Do you wear

your vest in public places or what about

your Lions Pin? You’d be surprised as to

the looks you may get and questions from

people. Especially if you wear pins on your

vest. It opens up the door for discussion

and plants a seed!

Have you registered for the State Conven-

tion? This newsletter will come out the

first of May so you still can. Our State Con-

vention Planning Committee has worked

hard to make this a great time! Sadly,

many of you will not see that this is an

important event to attend. I believe it is!

Why? You will not only get to see Lions

from around the state but you will also

hear reports about our projects and things

happening with LCI. It gives us a chance to

celebrate our year and challenges us to

move forward and work hard to help those

who need us.

We will have a Memorial Table set up at

the Convention to remember those Lions

we have lost this past year and years be-

fore. I’m listing names below from our

district. Remember these families who

have lost their loved ones and remember

that they gave years of their lives to serve!

A new year is coming up soon and your

clubs will be or have already elected offi-

cers for 2018-19. First of all PLEASE get

your PU101’s turned in to LCI. If you are a

club secretary and are not able to submit

this on line, remember that we now have a

District Administrator who is PDG Terry

Woodruff. You can mail your hard copy to

him at 1500 North Pecan, Ponca City, OK

74604 or call him at (580)716-1920.

We are also offering training for your new

officers. It can be done individually as a

club or we can get a group together. A

District Training will be held in the near

future and I will get that date and location

to you as soon as it’s confirmed. So, if you

would like to get scheduled, please let me

know by email, [email protected] or

you can call me at (580)491-1118. It’s im-

portant for your officers to have training

so they can perform their duties correctly

and be up to date on LCI.

Here’s an FYI: There are 26 clubs out of 46

NOT reporting Service Projects!! AND…we

are down 44 members for the year. You

know what we need to do! Report and ask

someone to join you in service! If we all

would bring in just 1 new member….wow!

Let’s do this!!!!

JP Williams (C) 580-284-1085 [email protected]

From the Governor,

Hopefully most of you have held your

elections and posted your PU 101’s in

MYLCI. With the year coming to an end

and a new one starting your Newly

Elected District Officers will be looking

to you for help. The District needs you

we have many positions of leadership

that do not get filled year after year. If

you are interested in serving outside of

your club please let me DG JP know by

emailing me @ [email protected] or

let any of the current officer know that

you are interested in serving.

I have asked the Leadership team to

help me make visits to clubs. If you

have not had an official visit please

contact me. I enjoy visiting the clubs

and hearing the great things Lions do

throughout our District. It gives me time

to say thank you but also to inform

clubs of the many things going on at

State and International Levels. Please

give a few weeks’ notice in advance so

we can plan properly. Looking forward

to meeting those of you that I have not

gotten to visit so far.

Last now that election have been

done it is that time of year for Training

again. Many may think why should I

attend training? Well there are many

reasons, first Lions Club International is

constantly changing to keep up with

current needs and that means many

things we were taught have changed.

Seconded it gives you time to meet

other Lions and get input on Ideas or

suggestions for issues you may be hav-

ing. Last we all can use the Help in

making our organization better and by

having training we are improving our-

selves, our clubs and Lions Club Inter-

national as a whole. So mark your cal-

endars for June 2nd

Only a Few Months Left to Be a Part of

History!

This year is your club’s last chance to earn

Centennial Service Challenge and Leg-

acy Project awards. There’s no reason why

every club can’t do a Legacy Project—such

as installing a park bench—or invite new

Centennial members. Will your club achieve

World Class or Premier Centennial Lions

Club status? There’s still time! You have

until June 30, 2018 to complete your Cen-

tennial projects and July 15, 2018 to report

them on MyLCI. Be a part of history and

help us finish our Centennial celebration
