The Parable of the Fig Tree

One day, a man visited his vineyard and saw the big fig tree standing near the entrance of the field. He looked up at the tree to see if it had bore fruits but there was none. He shook his head in disgust. He called his servant and pointed at the tree. I think we have to cut down this fig tree, he said to his servant. I have been waiting three years now for it to bear fruits but it was none until now, The servant sadly shook his head in disagreement. He didnt want the tree cut down. Please, lets not cut it down now, Master, the servant said to the owner of the vineyard. But what is the use of this tree if it does not bear fruit? It just gets in the way of the workers here in the vineyard. The servant who obviously cared for the tree made a polite request to his master to postpone the cutting of the tree for a year more. I am going to cultivate the soil around the tree and put some animal manure on it so it may bear fruits. The master looked at the servant interestedly.Do you think it will bear fruits if you do that?It may bear fruits, Master, said the servant in joy, sensing that the master was about to agree not to cut down the tree. But if it does not bear fruits inspite of care and the fertilizer Im going to give it, then perhaps it is time to cut down.
