A FRESH PERSPECTIVE ON THE SUNDAY READINGS HIS WORD TODAY by Rev. William J. Reilly

Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time

June 21, 2020 “But the gift is not like the transgression. For if by the transgression of the one, all died, how much more did the grace of God and the gracious gift of the one man Jesus Christ overflow for the many.” It is easy for us to point out the cause of our restless world. Sin, death, war, hate all flow from the fall as recorded in Genesis. At that time, God made His promise to us. That promise was carried out in the person of Jesus Christ. FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK As we honor our fathers today we hear Jesus reassure his disciples by reminding them of the tender care of the heavenly Father. Our heavenly Father watches over us assiduously, faithfully, lovingly; every hair on our heads are accounted for. Let us recall all the times our own fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and father-figures – living and deceased – made us feel safe and secure with their vigilant care. Happy Father’s Day!

Please stay home if you feel ill or have symptoms of the Coronavirus or have been exposed to someone who is suspected of COVID-19.

If you are concerned about returning to church during the Part A of the Green Phase either out of fear, being vulnerable, or actually ill, our Bishop has lifted the obligation to attend Mass. It is not a sin!

If you decide to come back to Mass this weekend, please follow the PA-DOH, diocesan guidelines, and our parish council’s vetted procedures to keep us healthy and safe.

These guidelines might test the patience and frustration levels of some parishioners. If you are one of them – PLEASE STAY HOME! Manifestations of anger, criticism, snide remarks, not following the restrictions imposed upon us defeats having Mass.

SECOND COLLECTIONS This week is scheduled for Peter’s Pence. Any offerings received will be counted and held until October 4. Next week will be Cemetery Upkeep. SANCTUARY CANDLE INTENTION In Memory of William & Sara Burdlebach WELCOME OUR SUMMER SEMINARIAN, JAMES James anxiously awaits meeting many of you this weekend and working with parishioners over the next ten weeks. James’ summer assignment will be slightly different than past seminarians as we still must maintain vigilance over the Coronavirus. He is unable to visit the hospital, nursing homes, and shut-ins. (N.B. Bishop Schlert still encourages priests, deacons, and seminarians NOT to enter private homes due to the Covid-19 pandemic. We must protect ourselves to serve you.) We need your help. Please be open to assisting us in the education of a future priest.

MILLENNIALS WHO AVOID FAMILY LIFE CHALLENGE PARISHES A new study shows that as millennials approach age 40, their family life radically differs from past generations, which Catholic scholars say presents challenges for passing on the faith and building Catholic community. A Notre Dame sociologist says, “American religion and American family are closely connected. If people are not engaging in family formation…they’re…much less likely to be involved in the Church.” HELP NEEDED PARISH WORK PARTY Help is needed Saturday, July 11, from 8:30 AM till Noon. PLEASE BRING WEED WACKERS. PARISH MASS SCHEDULES & SACRAMENTS IN PART A OF THE GREEN PHASE No one is obligated or pressured to attend Mass at this time! Still must wear masks in the presence of others! Still must maintain social distance! Daily Mass Tuesday through Friday at 8:00 AM in the main church or in the Grotto. Saturday Vigil Mass 4:00 PM in the Queen of the Universe weather permitting. • In the event of rain there will be NO MASS. • Do NOT arrive before 3:30PM. Those coming

early will not be admitted! • NO PARKING ON THE GRASS! Follow the

directions of those directing traffic. Cars will be parked one behind the other; parishioners who attend this Mass are there till Mass is over.

• Bring a lawn chair. Wear a Mask. Stay within your social distance circle.

• Holy Communion will be distributed as cars pull out to go home.

Sunday Masses at 8:30 AM & 10:30 AM in the main church

• The Main Double Doors open 30 minutes before Mass time. All other doors will be locked. Do not open doors to let in people;

doing so jeopardizes everyone’s health and safety.

• Everyone entering church MUST wear a mask and will receive a basic health screening.

• Only 150 persons will be admitted for Mass and doors will be locked when Mass begins or capacity reached. No late comers.

• No pews may be reserved or saved. A family can share a pew but the entire family must enter together. No late comers stating they are sitting with their parents, grandparents, etc.

• Holy Communion will be distributed at the conclusion of Mass.

• We will need 8 people to remain after Mass to sanitize the pews for the next Mass. We hope everyone will take a turn cleaning!

SACRAMENT OF RECONCILATION/ EMERGENCY CALLS/COMMUNION CALLS

• Confessions will be heard on Sunday immediately following 8:30 AM and 10:30 AM Masses.

• Appointments for Confessions may also be arranged.

• Fr. Bill avails himself for Anointing of the Sick & Last Rites calls when physically possible.

• Hospital & Nursing Home Visitation are still dictated by the health care facility.

• Bishop Schlert will not permit his priests at this time to make home visits for fearing of contracting COVID-19. This affects our monthly Communion Calls which have been suspended since March. If a Communion Call wishes to receive Holy Communion, they will need to call the rectory and arrange a time. Fr. Bill can give you Holy Communion at one’s front door without entering the home.

CELEBRATIONS OF FUNERALS, MARRIAGES, AND BAPTISM

• In the event of a death, the funeral director will contact the parish for availability of

Fr. Bill and the church. • During the Green Phase the parish is

permitted to allow 150 mourners into the church for a Mass of Christian Burial provided all maintain proper social distancing.

• During the Green Phase a family’s request for music might not be able to be accommodated. There is also No Offertory Procession.

• There are currently no Baptisms on the books. Call the rectory for information.

PRAYER AGAINST CORONAVIRUS

Lord Jesus Christ, our Divine Physician, we ask you to guard and protect us from Coronavirus COVID-19 and all serious illness. For all that have died from it, have mercy; for those that are ill now, bring healing. For those searching for a remedy, enlighten them; for medical caregivers helping the sick, strengthen and shield them. For those working to contain the spread, grant them success; for those afraid, grant peace. May your precious blood be our defense and salvation. By your grace, may you turn the evil of disease into memories of consolation and hope. May we always fear the contagion of sin more than any illness. We abandon ourselves to your infinite mercy. Amen. - Pedro de la Cruz
