JANUARY 12, 2020
Dear Friends,
Although today’s feast, the Baptism of the Lord, marks the end of the Christmas season—Baptism is al-ways a beginning!
For Jesus, baptized by John at the muddy Jordan river, baptism marks the beginning of his ministry among the people. It is the moment when God identifies Jesus as his “beloved son.” Much of Christ’s life before his baptism is hidden from us, when he is formed in the home of Mary and Joseph. With the bap-tism, Jesus begins to preach and teach, to heal and forgive, to serve and to save, as the anointed one of God.
For each of us, our baptism is an important starting point in the life of faith! We too are God’s beloved children, and from our baptism we are given gifts of the spirit. Can we also see in our baptism the root of our call to serve? Certainly that is what it was for Jesus. So what is the mission of love and ser-vice which God has given us—how have we been called by God? Perhaps you have experienced the call: of spouse, of mother or father, priest, religious sister or brother, or in some other way felt a deep call from God to serve. As we reflect on our baptismal calling, may each of us be open to respond with love to the God who loved us first!
Reminder, our next celebration of baptism for children is set for January 26th. Have interested parents call the rectory, so we can welcome their children into the faith!
Peace and blessings, Father Tom +++++
Paz y bendiciones, Padre Tom
