Certification Goal
The Continua Certification program provides a high level of assurance that a device
displaying the Continua Certified Logo has been designed to meet the requirements of the Continua Design Guidelines and its underlying
standards and specifications.
6
Scope of Certification Program
In Scope
Compliance/Conformance Testing – Verifying that a device meets a requirement in a standard/specification.
Interoperability Testing – Verifying
that two devices work together in the intended way.
Out of Scope Non-functional testing –Testing not associated with a specification (i.e., performance, stress, scalability, availability, reliability, usability, etc.) User Interface testing - Verifying the user interface is well designed and reliable. Regulatory testing – Tests to assist vendors with regulatory compliance.
Scope of Certification Program (cont.)
Testing Areas: 1. Data/protocol (i.e. 11073 PHD) testing – includes testing
conformance to data and messaging standards. 2. Transport (i.e. Bluetooth, USB, Zigbee) – includes testing
conformance to transport specification and interoperability at the transport level. This is tested by the transport SIG.
3. Interoperability Testing – includes testing conformance to Continua Interoperability Guidelines.

Prepare: Compliance Testing
• Download latest Test Tool http://members.continuaalliance.org/members/td_library/
• At the discretion of the member company a previous version of the Test Tool may be used for a period of 90 days after an updated version of the Certification Test Tool or interoperability procedures has been released.
– This allows the member company a buffer if they have been preparing for certification with a specific version of the test tool or interoperability procedures. The 90 day period applies to the time between the release of a new version of the Test Tool or interoperability procedures and the date certification testing begins.
Prepare: IOP Testing
• Test Labs will run the following interoperability test procedures http://members.continuaalliance.org/apps/org/workgroup/tcwg/download.php/6034/latest
• IOP procedures will be run against already certified devices if available
• Devices are available at Continua Plugfest events. • More info

Examples of Full System Requirement Example 1: Multiple Legacy Devices communicate to hub over a non-standardized interface
Non

Continua PAN interface
Hub
Certification applies to the hub plus the devices that communicate to the hub. Logo can be placed on the hub or packaging that contains the full system.
Example 2: Software Manufacturer provides Continua application software to be run on top of a reference set of hardware
Software manufacturer must provide the hardware and any interface software required for certification. Software manufacturer must ensure their customers have the pieces to obtain the full Continua solution. Logo can be placed on software application packaging or distribution media (ex. CD, SanDisk).
