Beverly Hills Gets Gritty!

On Wednesday, October 3, Beverly Hills hosted its annual fall parent night. These nights are amazing opportunities for the parents and teachers to collaborate and discuss the initiatives of our school, as well as the ways in which we can work together to support our students. Parents entered the building and received a free book and a light dinner.

The lobby offered SAP (Student Assistance Program) information, information from our school nurse and information on how to access Home Access Center.

Parents were greeted by Principal Brian Ursone. Dr. Ursone spoke about this year’s theme “Grit”. Parents then rotated around the school in different stations.

Stations included a "mindfulness" station, a reading station and a technology station. The "mindfulness" station was conducted by Ms. Westrope, of our PBIS leaders. This station took place out in the trailer, which is the location for our yoga classes. The read-ing strategies station was hosted by BHMS reading teachers Ms. Clayton and Ms. Kelly. They provided pamphlets and handouts for parents that included reading strategies for home. The technology session was run by our Administrative Team, including the grade level assistant principals and Dr. Ursone. They went over how to look at and interpret the students' MAP scores, as well as how to access the students' Study Island accounts from home, which is an online learning tool that helps students make growth in read-ing and math.

We are proud of our BHMS families and encourage all parents to be gritty this year by attending nights like this one. There will be additional parent forums in the upcoming seasons.

Fall Fling On Friday, September 28th, we had our annual Social in the cafeteria after school. Over one hundred stu-

dents showed up to have a great time dancing, eating, and socializing with friends. We had a great turn out

for staff helpers as well; everyone seemed to have a great time. All of the proceeds from the dance will be

going to help the CORE programs at Beverly Hills, including Kodiak Club, student rewards and student in-

centives. Thanks to all who came, helped out, and had fun!

Corey Carchidi

Ms. Carchidi has been teaching science at BHMS for 6 years. She teaches primarily 7th grade science with one 8th grade science class. Prior to teaching at BHMS Ms. Carchidi subbed throughout Upper Darby and at other school districts. In her time at BHMS Ms. Carchidi has assisted with the play, the K’nex club, the improve club and is hoping to start a hands on science club and fundraising club this year.

Ms. Carchidi is currently studying for her masters at West Chester University the major is geoscience. She is really lucky because she gets to take cool science courses like meteorology and oceanography.

In her free time Ms. Carchidi enjoys spending time with her friends and family both locally and across the country. She likes to travel throughout the country and enjoys playing games, hiking and loves the beach.

I'm excited to say that this is my 4th year here at Beverly Hills. I graduated with my Associate's Degree from Delaware County Community College and continued to finish at West Chester University with my Bachelor's in Psychology. I previously worked as a counselor in a high school, and found myself wanting to interact more in the classroom with the students. After a year, I decided to go back to the University of Pennsyl-vania to get my Master's in Education. Since then, I've had the opportunity to work with so many wonderful students- crack-ing jokes, poking fun, and of course teaching a bit of math.
