Stamenković “Littera” Translation Agency THE PERCEPTION OF IMPOLITENESS: THE ASPECTS OF FACE MOST FREQUENTLY ATTACKED IN ENTRIES ON THE WEBSITE ISPOVESTI.COM Face is the central concept of impoliteness, and it is defined as the positive social value a person effectively claims for himself by the line others assume he has taken during a particular contact (Goffman 1967: 5). The aim of this paper is to ascertain which of the five aspects of face that were defined by Spencer-Oatey (2000) is the one that is most targeted by impoliteness in the cultures of the people originating from the countries of former Yugoslavia, who are the chief commentators on the website ispovesti.com, which was the primary source of corpus data. The analytical framework used is Spencer-Oatey’s “rapport management” (e.g. 2000) which postulates various aspects of face, including sociality rights. A clarification of this framework is presented along with the way it was accommodated for a quantitative analysis of ambiguous situations, the whole framework being adapted from Culpeper et al. (2010). A corpus which consists of 100 entries containing impoliteness gathered from the website ispovesti.com was analyzed following the guidelines and methodology previously established in order to determine the prevalent aspect of face that is attacked in impoliteness situations. The analyzed data shows a distribution of the most frequently attacked aspects that is similar to the results of the study in Culpeper et al. (2010) regarding European cultures – namely, the aspect most often targeted was quality face. Further analysis could lead to a conclusion that the people of former Yugoslavia have greater cultural proximity towards Western cultures, as opposed to the Oriental, Eastern cultures regarding face sensitivity. StamenkoviPERCEPCIJA NEUTIVOSTI: NAJEE NAPDANI ASPEKTI LICA U UNOSIMA NA VEB-SAJTU ISPOVESTI.COMRezimeLice je centralni koncept neutivosti, a definie se kao pozitivna drutvena vrednost koju osoba efikasno pripisuje sebi na osnovu pravca u razgovoru za koji drugi smatraju da ga se ta osoba drala tokom odreenog kontakta (Goffman 1967: 5). Cilj ovog rada je da utvrdi koji je od pet aspekata lica koje je definisala Spencer-Oatey (2000) onaj koji je u najveoj meri cilj neutivih napada u kulturama ljudi poreklom iz zemalja bive SFRJ, koji su glavni komentatori na veb-sajtu ispovesti.com, glavnom izvoru materijala za korpus. Teorijski okvir za analizu koji se koristi je upravljanje prisnou koje je osmislila Spencer-Oatey (npr. 2000), a ovaj okvir podrazumeva postojanje razliitih aspekata lica, ukljuujui prava na drutvenost. U radu su predstavljeni pregled i razjanjenje ovog teorijskog okvira, ali i nain na koji je prilagoen za kvantitaivnu analizu dvosmislenih situacija, za taje polazna taka bila aadaptacija koju su obavili Culpeper et al. (2010). Sa veb-sajta ispovesti.com prikupljen je korpus koji se sastoji od 100 unosa koji sadre neutivost, a zatim je analiziran u skladu sa smernicama i metodologijom koje su prethodno utvrene. Cilj analize je bio utvrivanje dominantnog aspekta lica koje se napada u situacijama koje sadre neutivost. Analizirani podaci pokazuju distribuciju najee napadanih aspekata koja je slina rezultatima za evropske kulture u istraivanju koje su sproveli Culpeper et al. (2010) naime, aspekt koji je najee cilja napada je kvalitativno lice. Dodatna analiza moe da dovede do zakljuka da su ljudi bive Jugoslavije u pogledu osetljivosti lica kulturno bliskiji evropskim, zapadnim kulturama, nasuprot orijantalnim, istonim kulturama.Kljune rei:pragmatika, lice, aspekti lica, upravljanje prisnou
