Travel in the past of Adolf Hitler, the ultimate dictator. Has he always been a manipulative and demanding person? What dramatic flashbacks and feelings contributed to the way he turned out today? Could certain events from Adolf’s memory prevent the killing of millions?

Hitler was born in Braunau Am Inn, Austria, on April 20, 1889. Adolf Hitler’s parents were Alois and Klara Hitler. Alois Hitler hit and abused his own son for every wrong doing he caused. In relations, Klara Hitler (Adolf’s mother) never approved of this and was very loving and religious of the world and people. By the time Adolf was twenty, he dropped out of school and experienced both of his parents’ death (Rossel 14). Adolf attempted to attend “Vienna Academy of Fine Arts,” however he did not achieve that goal and his application was declined (Witherbee).

After his adolescent years were complete, he soon became a man. Although he was not successful when he was a child, things started to change and reform. In 1914, after leaving his childhood behind in Vienna, Hitler soon enrolled in the German army (Witherbee). Fighting for his country, Hitler was assigned the job as messenger and was rewarded two iron crosses in return for his bravery (Fredriksen). Before World War I was complete, Hitler’s eyes were infested with gas set as a trap by the opponent. There seemed to be a gas infested in his area, which apparently reached him. Returned from that experience, Hitler was reassigned into the local army for keeping communist and pacifist out. The job involved spying and sneaking on the “DAP.”

Hitler as a dictator of Germany... Hitler’s portrait photo

On his duty as a troop, he came to realize that the debates they discussed were interesting and very meaningful. Before he knew it, he became the seventh member of the group (Witherbee). At this time, ideas where flowing into his mind so that people were dared to put their lives at risk. This is when Adolf Hitler knew he truly would become an almighty dictator and would forever be known.

World wide, this man has been known for his sinister crimes against all. Through out history, he has killed around 35 million citizens (Fredriksen). It was as if he had no sympathy, no mercy, no feelings. He treats others as if they were nothing and betrayed everyone in his country. Being raised by his father, Adolf had to suffer constant whippings that filled him with hatred (Rossel 14). If the living conditions and support were greater and suitable, things could’ve changed not only for one person, but for the everyone who has experienced and witness the uncanny deaths of millions. Adolf could’ve been a positive impact on society, but chose the one of loneliness and power. His actions are to be left on with us, for we are scarred for life as we know it. -the denial of death

Hitler’s Plans Against Jewish and His Path to Dictatorship

“NO PRIVACY, NO HAPPINESS, NO INDIVIDUALITY”

Maecenas pulvinar sagittis enim. Rhoncus tempor placerat.

Everyone has seen the Nazis party takeover; witnesses and bystanders observe all these cruelties that they have committed against us. We have no rights, no freedom, no lives. Who has bestowed this limited power upon us? How did the dictatorship of one person affect our lives so deeply?

Concerned about the safety, weakness of the government, and the war outcomes, Hitler slowly began to realize that in order to get attention on all of these subjects; he would need to dramatically threaten them. (Rossel 16).

The almighty Hitler used people as a blame for many of the tragic commotions involved. He searched and studied the German religions and ways and discovered that the Jewish were responsible for the death of Jesus. The Jewish were the cause of these consequences and is an “anti-Semitism” group. (Rossel 16 and 17).

The need of popularity and recognize, was such a priority for him, he changed the group he was currently in, “National Socialist German Workers’ party,” into the “Nazis’ party.” From that particular point he had a hold of a chance to gain more power. He threatened the German government to vow their loyalty, or to be eliminated by his troops. (Rossel 17 and 18).

Page 6: The perseverance magazine

THE PERSEVERANCE PAGE6

Dreams and resolutions of power and hatred gradually flowed when he enrolled in jail for the next five years. In between 1923 and 1928, Hitler made a companion named Rudolf Hess. Hess began to encourage Hitler to promote a bible about the rules and natural ways the Germans should live. As the “Mein Kampf” (Nazi bible) was in progress, Hitler stated the main goals that the people of his country should follow. (Rossel 18 and 19).

relation of people shall be forever broken. Hitler said that no matter what happens, the Jewish will always be the Germans’ natural enemies. Any Aryan who marries a Jewish will “poison the blood” of a pure life. Aryans are

the “best” possible people on the planet. Germans must have the superior area of living in Europe. In Hitler’s words, it was “Lebenstraum,” space for living, which is essential for his country’s well-being. In the bible, it is also stated that we are trying to plot against his precious country. Having control of the government, land, banks, and press, reinforces the idea that “Jews are trying to take over the Germans.” (Rossel 18 and 19).

Hitler came to be known throughout areas outside the border and after he was released, he gained 6.5 million votes and became the second largest political party. Soldiers applied time after time, which resulted to

around half a million. Many Germans were influenced by his speeches, and in a short amount of time, he was known as the chancellor of Germany by January 30, 1993. (Rossel 21).

People are betrayed, and lives are put into ruins. Lies that weren’t expected and respect that was given, turned Germany into a war filled area. Hitler began to eliminate single and civil rights to all citizens. Nobody was to talk about their own beliefs or religions. Houses and belongings were searched through; mail, telegrams and conversations were invaded and heard. (Rossel 23). No privacy, no happiness, no individuality.

One word that gives us the chills: The Gestapo. Many people know what the Gestapo does. They capture disloyal people and torture or murder them (Heydrich). We have all seen their undercover agents and their mysterious tactics. But what really is the Gestapo? Where did it initiate? Who leads it? There are many questions, but no real answers. Most people say that the Gestapo is an agency led by Hitler to destroy the Jews. Little do they know that the Gestapo is actually run by Hermann Goering, the Prussian prime minister. He is one of Hitler’s top lieutenants. You may ask where this man came from and what qualifies him to run one of the inexplicable agencies against the Jews. The truth is he went to the Karlsruhe Military Academy as a young man. In 1912, he was given the opportunity to become an army lieutenant, but he was stricken with arthritis and was then sent to work in the air service (Hermann). Hermann may have created it, but does not run it anymore. The man Hermann elected as the leader of the Gestapo, when he became head of the Luftwaffe or air force, is Heinrich Himmler. As we all know, Heinrich is also the leader of the SS or Schutzstaffel. As a young boy, Heinrich loved to read about German’s opinions on

exterminating the Jew. From the start, he wanted to join the German Army to fight in World War I, but the war ended before he could fight. He then went to the Technical University in Munich where he studied agricultural science. While working as an agricultural assistant, he became involved with a conservative nationalist paramilitary group known as the Reich Flag. He was only in this group for a short while before he joined Hitler's National Socialist Party. Heinrich soon grew to love working for the Nazis and became one of Hitler’s closet companions (Heinrich). As you can see, the history of Gestapo plays a big part in the outcome of their group. Hermann Goering had started the group, but now Heinrich Himmler is in charge (Heydrich). I hope this information gives you a little education of the Gestapo. Be alert anywhere and everywhere you go, for there may be an undercover Gestapo agent lurking nearby.

The Gestapo is Germans most successful extermination group. They easily catch and obliterate the Jewish people in a matter of seconds. We try to hide by moving town to town, hoping they will not find us. But we do not hide well enough; they catch us as soon as we leave. We know they are dangerous, but why are they so successful? What caused them to be one of the biggest Nazi groups the Germans have? The Gestapo is so successful and effective because they have underground Jewish agents. The Gestapo catches Jewish people and torture them, but don’t always murder them. Some Jewish people they think they can use are kept as agents.

These Jewish people know where all of us live, for they could be one of our closet friends. They know who makes our fake identification cards and where most of us hide. This tactic is used very often from the Germans, since these agents would rather keep their lives and give up many others (More Effective). Many of us want to know why the Gestapo to be one of the biggest Nazi groups. One reason is because of the people that joined. The Gestapo’s members were people from the political and intelligence section of the Berlin police. Little do you know that right before the Gestapo started, Hermann Goring, creator of the Gestapo, put many Nazi people

into those jobs at Berlin police. Therefore, from the start of the Gestapo, many Nazi people were connected, due to their jobs in Berlin police (Gestapo).

The undercover agents are all around us. They could be prowling around right next door to you. Beware of those friends and neighbors that are very close to you, for they may be in the Gestapo and turn on you. Make sure you and your families are alert as you meet new people on your way to a safe, protected place.

The Auschwitz prisoners digging a hole to burry the dead bodies.

A horrifying experience I can ever encounter. Being at home one day and being at an unknown place the next. Being with your family to being forced to do hard labor. All I can do is watch people lose faith, people lose their minds, and people lose hope. Everyone is scared, frightened, and afraid of what will happen. 12 hours of hard work, as sweat drips down my face. No water is given, no food is served. All I can do is wait for the next serving of food. One mistake I make will lead to brutal beatings from guards like having an axe handle being stuck in you more than 25 times. Many are killed from starvation, disease, or harsh treatment. Only the

strong will survive this concentration camp.

I look around, barbed wire, open field. Many people are working out of fear just to satisfy the guards. I can’t feel my arms and my legs anymore. An SS officer said to dig holes in the ground. I did as he said. My hole got deep, I was told to stop and throw dead bodies in the holes. I couldn’t believe what the SS officer had just said. It was awful to bury the dead. It soon became a routine for me to do this. "Every day you walked out in the morning, you see somebody is laying dead, covered with newspapers or with any kind of blanket they found" (Abraham Lewent).

I began to lose feeling for the dead and I didn’t suffer burying them anymore.

I always ask myself, “when will this be over?”. I think to myself, “will ever see my family again?”. I constantly wonder to myself, “will survive this horrible camp?”. It seems impossible to do. Everyone is losing faith and their trust in God. I can’t lose my moral values now. I want to live but I will just have to wait and see what happens. Everyday an unexpected thing will occur. I will await the times before me.

Two words, “Block 11”, brought torment to my ear. Hearing these words meant death. Block 11 was inside Auschwitz, a concentration camp. Block 11 would bring a slow death that would cause suffering and pain. I could see everyone who had to enter this Block lose faith and hope. Everyone who entered never returned back. They would all eventually die. Block 11 has standing cells, starvation cells, and dark cells. The standing cells make 4 prisoners spend the nights just standing. They can’t do anything but stand. These cells were about 1.5 m2 (16 sq ft), and four men would be placed in them; they could do nothing but stand, and were forced during the day to work with the other prisoners (Scrapbook). During the day, they have to work with the other prisoners. After working they would go back to the cells. If you were put in the starvation cells, the SS officers won’t give you food or water until you die. The dark cells are located in the basement. These cells have a very small window. The SS officers make you hang your hands behind you back making you dislocate

your shoulder. The SS officers would light a candle so it would use up the oxygen more quickly. You would gradually die from suffocation. You will die in Block 11, it doesn’t matter which cell you enter. It is September 3, 1941, I see many people entering Block 11, more than usual. I wonder to myself what is happening. I knew something bad was going on because Block 11 was never good. I hear screaming and yelling coming from Block 11. I see Zyklon-B. Zyklon-B is a powerful insecticide which serves as a carrier for the gas Hydrocyanic acid (Nizkor). The Zyklon-B ends up killing all the people who went inside Block 11. Block 11 is a prison within a prison, making it impossible to survive. Not even the strong could live in Block 11. If you get sent to Block 11, don’t expect to return, you would need a miracle to happen.-the denial of death

Dear Kadja,

Just last week, the Gestapo came to our little town called Skwierzyna. They interrogated everyone in our town because of an undercover resistance group. My husband works in a uniform factory and helped some of the men in that group get Gestapo uniforms. We had to witness the ten men involved in the process get hung in the central square. I have two children named Macide and Macit. I don’t know what to do. Will my husband get caught? And should we run before they catch us? Madelena

Dear Madelena,

I think that you and your family should try to run away to Switzerland or France. I have heard there are many kind people in those countries that are generous and help us. The danger of running away is that you could possibly get caught and be murdered. The Gestapo is a very intelligent group that can easily hunt down and catch accomplices. If your husband does get caught, he will be murdered at the scene right away and you can your children may be tortured or hung in the central square. I would rather try to escape and die then do nothing and die. Good luck deciding what is best for you and your family. I will pray for you and your family in my thoughts. Kadja

Dear Kadja,

My family and I are in hiding from the Gestapo. My husband and son have recently committed a crime. The crime was holding a secret town meeting, giving ideas of how to overpower the Gestapo. Apparently the Gestapo heard about it and came to the scene a few minutes after the meeting. Our neighbor, Earn, told us the news and we went to go hideout in the woods. We are running out of food and water. I think we should just give up and face the consequences, but my husband says we need to persevere and look for the best. What should I do?

Sabina

Dear Sabina,

Don’t give up any hope. Soon the endless killing and murdering will be over and you will be safe again. Your husband is right to say you need to keep your head up high with perseverance. You may run out of food and water, but you may find a nice family who will take you in and care for you for a little while. Stick it out for a little longer and don’t give up any hope. I wish you the best of luck. Kadja

1. What was the worst experience you endured in medical testing?

“I remember them placing me on the table, naked, and just beginning to saw my arm. Half the

time I was unconscious from all the pain I was suffering (Roleff 134).”

2. How many experiments have you been through?

“Four experiments is all I remember.”

3. How has the experience changed your life and affected you?

“Now, whenever I see a metal table and needles, I get shivers because I reminisce on the days I was locked up in a cubicle with no way out of the surgery (Roleff 135).”

4. If there’s any life learned lesson that you have learned, what is it?

“Never trust anyone when they say,’Its gonna be okay. Don’t

worry, I won’t hurt you.’”

5. Did you ever try to escape the experiments?

“There was no way I could escape. I was selected and to deny was to die. Denial was immediate death. No refusal. Decisions were made for you. I am glad to be alive today so I can tell you the truth of the Nazis and what many people like me have been through.”

Medical Experiments. Those two simple words make us shiver and reminisce on the existing memory of innocent people being experimented upon. There are around few 200 children that survived out of the 3,000 children that were tested upon (Horvitz). The main target is twins and as one child slowly sickened, the other would shortly die. This cruelty has taken part in causing the death of about 85,000 people (Biesinger). Those deaths have taken place in only one camp within less than 8 years, Buchenwald. The mastermind behind these experiments you ask? Doctor Josef Mengele.

Doctor Josef Mengele is the notorious Auschwitz doctor, also known as the “Angel of Death.” During his medical studies, he concentrated on

physical anthropology and genetics. Though, his interest winded toward a different course. He began to gain interest in facism and joined the SA and the Nazi paramilitary group when Hitler was in power. He arrived in Auschwitz in 1943 and from there he began his terrible treatments and made his infamous name (Horvitz). Mengele begins surgery without anesthesia, injects patients with lethal germs, removes organs and limbs, and undertook sex-change operations. It was told that Mengele operates on the eyes of children, putting chemicals in their eyes to change their eye color (Horvitz). In Dachau, inmate subjects are injected with malaria and are immersed in cold water for long periods of time

(Axelrod). Inmates of Buchenwald, are in high-altitude conditions, injected with epidemic jaundice, spotted fever, gas gangrene, streptococcus, tetanus, exposed to mustard gas, and endure transplants of bones, nerves, and muscles. Subjects are also sterilized with X-ray, surgery, and drugs (Horvitz). These medical experiments are explained to be research to help develop vaccines to protect German troops against malaria. They are intended to assist pilots downed in the North Atlantic (Axelrod). Though these were the reasons for testing, the horrors were obvious and will always remain unforgotten. The torture and suffering from the prisoners were unforgivable, intolerable, and inhumane.

Medical Experiments THE TRAGEDIES OF THE TOLERANT

Page 14: The perseverance magazine

THE PERSEVERANCE (TWIN EXPERIMENTS) PAGE14

As you know, Mengele has a fascination towards dwarfs and twins. He performs disturbing and traumatic experiments upon them. This takes place in Auschwitz, the home of medical experiments. Soldiers searched for dwarfs and twins immediately after the prisoners’ arrival. The adult twins and dwarfs that were summoned are intrigued because they think they are going to be given special treatment. They do not realize what horrible happenings will occur to them shortly. In the Barracks 14 of Camp F., the inmates are taken and sent to the Gypsy Camp. There they are exposed to every human experiment known; blood tests, lumbar punctures, exchanges of blood, etc (Roleff 131). The study is to compare twins’ healthy organs from organs functioning abnormally. For this, corpses are needed and twins need to die simultaneously. The twins’ death occurs in one of Auschwitz’s KZ barracks, by the hands of Dr. Josef Mengele (Roleff 131). During an occasion, 14 pairs of Rom (Gypsy) twins are put to sleep simultaneously by chloroform injected into their hearts. After a pair of twins die, Mengele dissects the bodies and notes each body part, afterwards he places it into a secret file with detailed drawings

and descriptions. Dr. Mengele also has sewn twins together attempting to form Siamese twins (Horvitz). The reason that the twins and dwarfs receive good food and well living conditions is so contamination doesn’t occur and so they die together in good health (Roleff 132). In Auschwitz, about 1,500 sets of twins are used for medical study. Dr. Miklos Nyiszli discovered that twins are being injected with chloroform into their hearts causing immediate death. During a dissection of twins, he noticed a small red spot that was obviously caused from a hypodermic injection. The needle filled with chloroform was pierced into the left ventricle of the heart so the valves would deposit of blood causing heart failure (Roleff 136). The main goal of the studies of twins is to increase reproduction of the German race. Czechs, Hungarians, and Poles were to be destroyed and replaced by pure Germans (Roleff 133). It is a deadly secret if one should find out the cause of death, and so my job is to warn, inform, and alert you on what is currently occurring now. The dangers are most severe for our people so please pray for them and hope that God

will save them from their fears. -THE DENIAL OF DEATH

How ToSURVIVE IN THE HOLOCAUST...

• How to survive the Germans and Hitler’s dictatorship.- Disguise yourself as a similar looking citizen of

that country- Avoid officers as much as possible; do not let them

catch you- Eat when you can and when it is given (you will

never know when you will eat again). Be sure that you do not become too slim; you may lose strength which will be needed greatly.

- Do not speak too much of your native language, and do not speak of religions (especially with Aryan and Jewish)

- Do not lose faith in ones’ self. Fake it ‘till you make it. Pull all the strength you have to go on.

- Do not abandon your companion. You will have the same fate as them if you think about each other. Have the power of love and confidence to embrace the hardships and things will be much easier.

- Endure the pain of whippings from SS officers. Do not exert your angers, for you may be in danger if you do.

- Do as you’re told and wait for the arrival of the rescue.

Our theme was to educate readers about the tragedies and unfortunate happenings that are occurring during the Holocaust. Our job is to teach readers about how to persevere and never give up on life. Within our message, is the word peace. Peace shall find it’s way to the world once truth is revealed and justice is made.

The Holocaust taught us how inhumane and cruel the world can be. We learned how God’s silence teaches us to survive and live on our own. Sometimes the only way to face our fears, is to truly believe we can succeed. It was learned that evil is always somewhere and good overcomes at the time it is needed most. Many people, young and innocent, old and wise, have died under the control of one man. Hitler was the dictator who demanded all Jews to burn in the bowels of hell. Yet, justice came and saved the lives of those who live today to tell their story.

Today, there are many evidence about the disturbing events that occurred in the internment camps. We learn how easily things can be unheard and silent. No one spoke of the abomination that was happening until the end came and by then millions were dead. together we can improve our future by learning from our world’s past.
