Well-designed large clinical trials prove that routine β-blocker therapy leads to symptom improvement, reduced hospitalization and improved survival among patients with heart failure and systolic dysfunction. However, β-blockers can induce bronchospasm; its use traditionally contraindicated among patients with obstructive airways, specifically bronchial asthma.
