It will be organized by FUFA, Ex-Women Footballers club and Uganda Women Foot-

offered footballs to each participating team in this tournament. The balls were given

out in two Divisions-Kawempe at Paramedical school sports ground, Mulago and

Efrance Nanjego: In

love with women football

In every development that

occurs, we see those who

excel above others and of

course they deserve mention.

Efrance Nanjego, the Chair-

person of Uganda Women

Football Association (UWFA)

deserves the credit for her

endless and tireless toils of

developing women football in

the Eastern region of Uganda.

She is such a hardworking

person when it comes to

women football.

Nanjego, 37, is the head

coach of Kakira Women foot-

ball team that features in the

FUFA Women Elite League

side. She admits her dreams

and objectives are yet to be

realized.

In her youthful days, she

started playing football and

this kicked off her football

career.

Nanjego reveals to FUFA

Monthly that ’My parents

never discouraged me

when I took on football

at school because they

knew me as a an active

sports girl who tried out

so many sports disci-

plines’. I also used to

watch men’s football on

TV’

Nanjego, also says she

started playing football

because she felt it could

take her to another level.

In 1995 she started playing

for Kakira Women Football

team where she was spotted

by Jinja United Women Foot-

ball team.

‘When I joined Jinja United,

everything changed in my

favor’

‘My leadership skills, helped

me land a coaching course but

I continued playing for my

team until 2007’ Nanjego

stresses the point.

In 2012, I went for FUFA ref-

ereeing course and also got a

certificate in sports first Aid

medication and the same year

I was elected as a representa-

tive for Uganda Women Foot-

ball Association.

“I loved Nigeria Women foot-

ball team whenever I watched

them play. I also liked the

works of referee Irene

Namubiru so much. So I had

to work hard to get to that

level’

He achievements have taken

her places where she has met

stars.

‘This has created me more

opportunities to rub shoulders

with persons of high pro-

files both locally and inter-

nationally thus winning me

fame and popularity’ adds

Nanjego.

“Now I can access any of-

fice whenever I feel like”

Nanjego further says.

Challenges and problems

faced

Like any other person, the

road to success is not only full

of positives but also encircled

with negatives as Nanjego

brings them out.

Parents always discourage

girls from playing football that

it is designed for men. also

Lack of finances to run women

football activities within the

region are very scarce.

Lack of continuity as there has

been no league until this year.

Way forward

Women need to work hard in

order to promote the game in

our country so as to attract

potential sponsors and spot

more talent.

The Government policies

should be put in place to favor

the development of women

football in the country.

‘FUFA has done a wonderful

job in helping women with

various courses in coaching,

administration, referees and

sports medical personnel’ says

Nanjego.

football delegates.

The Big Interview with Former Cranes Captain Ibrahim Sekagya

FUFA Monthly paused a few interesting questions to a man who whole heartedly served

his country for close to 15 years. Sekagya is regarded as the most successful Ugandan

player to play professional football as he plied his trade in four continents.

FUFA Monthly (FM) talks to Ibrahim Sekagya (IS) as he also names his best Uganda XI of

players he played with.

FM: Ibra, FUFA Newsletter would like to congratulate you upon a glorious career that has

seen you play in four continents (Africa, South America, Europe and North America). What

is your feeling right now after hanging up the boots?

IS: Thank you! I am grateful for having honored me the opportunity to be part of you.

It’s not an easy feeling but glad i am still working with the same people and in the same

field so it makes me feel good.

FM: Which continent gave you the greatest moments in football and why?

IS: It was South America when I played in Argentina that gave me the greatest memo-

ries. The passion and the support people gave me were exceptional. Being a young boy by

then, I was treated like their son, more so regardless where i came from they fully be-

lieved in my talent.

FM: From playing to coaching that must be a whole new experience. Have you been taking some coaching lessons?

IS: I have been taking brief coaching practice, but not fully out of the game however coaching is now part of my routine and

with bigger books involved for the theoretic part of it, which makes it totally a whole new experience.

FM: Which person would you pick out that played a key role in your football career?

IS: Of course i have a long list but those who were close to me-especially my departed

mother and family played a big role in my career. These people always gave me that posi-

tive energy that I carried on to the pitch for good results that you saw all the time out of

me.

FM: Which player was your best friend in each of the four countries you played in?

IS: In Uganda it was Wilson Gayi (RIP), Argentina (Ezequel Medran), in Austria (Mark Janko)

and USA (Bradley Wright Phillips). We came together, tried out together, neighbors, went out

together and got all sorts of help everyone would need from one another.

FM: You quit the national team about three years ago; do you feel there is something you failed to achieve with the Uganda

Cranes?

IS: Of course i missed to achieve taking the team to the AFCON finals.

FM: Who is your best ever Ugandan footballer?

IS: Willy Kyambadde because we played together. This guy was really good! I still admire

the talent he had.

FM: Do you dream of coaching a Ugandan club or Uganda

cranes one day?

IS: It is quite a tricky question right now as i have just

started my new career, but i can promise that I am availa-

ble for technical advice if given chance.

FM: Your best XI of Ugandan players you played with both

at club and Uganda Cranes:

IS: Sekagya’s best XI (not in order): Sam Kawalya (GK), David Obua, Baker Mbowa, Nes-

tory Kizito, Andy Lule, Arthur Byansima, Andrew Mukasa, Willy Kyambadde, Musoke Lawrence,

Jackson Mayanja and Derrick Muyanja

Thank you very much Ibra Sekagya. FUFA Monthly wishes you the best in your new coaching career.

“...Of course i

m i s s e d t o

achieve taking

the team to the

AFCON finals.”
