Memorial Trees & Benches The Memorial Tree & Bench program was developed by Crete Park District as a means of remembering loved ones, friends, or special events. Persons or organizations can donate money for the purchase of a tree to be planted in a park or a park bench. Under the Crete Park District Memorial Tree program, the Crete Park District plants a 2” - 3” caliper tree at one of our parks, where it is needed the most, unless a specific park is requested. Shade trees include species such as oak, maple, linden, and pear. Evergreen trees include pine and spruce. Other trees are available by request. The trees will be planted either in the spring or fall of each year as weather permits, depending on the species of tree. Cost for a Tree Memorial including purchase, delivery, installation and upkeep is $300. Cost of Memorial Bench is $600. Please call us at 672-6996 for information on purchasing a tree or bench.

Board MeetingsRegular Park Board meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month, 7 PM at the Willard Wood Park Center base-ment. Residents are encouraged to attend!

CommissionersJen Smith Linda JohnsonRita Piepenbrink Mike SmithPatty Wiater

We love parents, butWith your child’s best interest in mind, par-ents are asked not to attend their child’s class unless invited by the instructor. The quality of instruction has often been affected by par-ent and/or sibling distractions. It is of equal importance that children have quality time with their peers. Our instructors welcome the opportunity to discuss concerns with par-ents before or after class, time permitting.

Who is a Nonresident & what is a Nonresident Pass? Crete Park District is comprised of the Village of Crete only. Crete Township, Monee, Ste-ger and Beecher do not pay taxes to the Crete Park District. (To confirm your residency, you must check your tax bill or your voters registration card. Crete Park District does have a map of all homes within the District and can help you!) The Nonresident Pass was designed for those who participate in several of the District programs but do not live inside the District. If you purchase the Nonresident pass, you receive all of the benefits of a Crete Park District Resident and pay Resident rates. The cost is $175 for one year and is good for your entire family!

Equal Fun For EveryoneCrete Park District promotes the concept of “Equal fun for everyone.” Participants are expected to exhibit appropriate behavior at all times. Crete Park District behavior guide-lines have been developed to help make the programs safe and enjoyable for everyone. 1. Participants must show respect to all participants and staff.2. Participants must refrain from using foul language or discussing inappropriate topics.3. Participants must show respect for equipment, supplies, and facilities. 4. Crete Park District staff reserves the right to dismiss participants whose behavior is unacceptable, threatens or endangers others or themselves.

Nothing ruins a good program quicker...than waiting until the last minute to register. There is a point where if the minimum number of participants is not met, the program will be canceled. Registering on the day of or the day before the program will not save it. Please register five business days before the program/event to avoid disappointment. Classes may be combined and times modified to facilitate better programs.

Dear Neighbors,We had a very exciting spring and summer for the District as we replaced two parks in the District, Gordon and Garrett Parks received a face-lift and new equipment. With the removal of the previous structures we were able to add concrete curbing, new play pieces and enhance the play-grounds.

Fall into the fun at the Crete Park District with Harvest Fest on September 16 and 17th at Crete Park. This 2-day event will bring in crafters, games, music, food and so much more. Mark your calendars for this new fest coming to Crete! With the change of seasons, we always look forward to the exciting autumn events and programs. Remember all of the other great special events such as Trick or Treat Trail, Country Christmas, Chili Cook-off and so much more.

This coming November the residents of the Crete Park District will decide on a very important decision for the future of the Crete Park District. The District has placed a referendum question on the November election ballot that would allow the District to join the South Suburban Special Rec-reation Association and provide joint recreational programs for persons with disabilities. The referendum question is below. SSSRA promotes the power of choice and to enhance the quality of life of individuals of all abilities, by providing accessible recreation to all. If this referendum is approved the Crete Park District will be able to join SSSRA plus offer additional ADA updates to our buildings and parks for all to enjoy. If you have any questions regarding this, please contact me at 708-672-6969.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that at the general election to be held on Tuesday, the 8th day of November, 2016, the following proposition will be submitted to the voters of the Crete Park District, Will County, Illinois:

Shall the Crete Park District, Will County, Illinois, be authorized to levy a new tax for the purpose of providing joint recreational programs for persons with disabilities and have an additional tax of 0.04% of the equalized assessed value of the taxable property therein extended for such purpose?

(1) The approximate amount of taxes extendable at the most recently extended limiting rate is $445,861.87, and the approximate amount of taxes extendable if the proposition is approved is $498,720.43.

(2) For the 2016 levy year the approximate amount of the additional tax extendable against property containing a single family residence and having a fair market value at the time of the referendum of $100,000 is estimated to be $13.33.
