I - IV - V Chord Numbers

Roman numerals, a lower case implies a minor chordI = Major 1st, C Majorvi = minor 6th, A minor

Because I IV V’s are incredibly handy to know!

Guitar By The Glass is my group approach to learning the guitar. I created this book for my weekly session, but anyone is free to print it out and use it.

Make sure you have: 1. A nice clean secluded place to sit down 2. A tuned guitar 3. This resource book on a music stand in front of you 4. The youtube / podcast playing through a stereo so you can jam along 5. A glass of something to sip

A Pair OF Brown EyesOne [G]summer evening [G/D]drunk to hell I [Am]sat there nearly [C/G]lifelessAn [G]old man in the [G]corner sang Where the [C/G]waterlilies [Am]growAnd [G]on the jukebox [G/D]Johnny sang A[Am]bout a thing called [C/G]love

And it’s [G]how are you [Am]kid and [C]whats your [G]nameAnd [C]how’d would you bloody [Am]know

In [G]blood and death ‘neath a [G/D]screaming sky I [Am]lay down on the [C/G]groundAnd the [G]arms and legs of [G/D]other menWere [C/G]scattered all [Am]aroundSome [G]cursed some prayed Some [G/D]prayed then cursedThen [Am]prayed and bled some [C/G]more

And the [G]only [Am]thing that [C]I could [G]seeWas a [G]pair of brown [Am]eyes That was [C]looking at [G]meBut [G]when we got [Am]back Labelled [C]parts one to [G]threeThere was [G]no pair of [Am]brown eyes [C]waiting for [G]me

And a [G]rovin’ a [Am]rovin’ a [C]rovin’ I’ll [G]goFor a [C]pair of brown [Am]eyes

I [G]looked at him he [G/D]looked at me All [Am]I could do was [C/G]hate himWhile [G]Ray and Philo[G]mena sang Of [C/G]my elusive [Am]dreamsI [G]saw the streams, the [G/D]rolling hills Where [Am]his brown eyes were [C/G]waiting

And I [G]thought [Am]about a [C]pair of brown [G]eyes That [C]waited once for [Am]me

So [G]drunk to hell I [G/D]left the place Sometimes [Am]crawling sometimes [C/G]walkingA [G]hungry sound came [G]across the breeze so I [C/G]gave the walls a [Am]talkingAnd I [G]heard the sounds of [G/D]long ago [Am]From the old [C/G]canal

And the [G]birds were [Am]whistling [C]in the [G]treesWhere the [C]wind was gently [Am]laughing

And a [G]rovin’ a [Am]rovin’ a [C]rovin’ I’ll [G]goA [G]rovin’ a [Am]rovin’ a [C]rovin’ I’ll [G]goAnd a [G]rovin’ a [Am]rovin’ a [C]rovin’ I’ll [G]goFor a [C]pair of brown [Am]eyesFor a [C]pair of [D]brown [G]eyes

And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda (2)INTRO [G / / / ]When [G]I was a [C]young man I [G]carried me [G]packAnd I [G]lived the free [D]life of a [G]rover[G]From the [G]Murray's green [D]basin to the [C]dusty [G]OutbackI [G]waltzed my [D]Matilda all [G]over [G]

Then in [D /]1915 my [C]country said, “[G]SonIt's [D /]time you stopped rambling Cause there's [C]work to be [G]done”So they [G]gave me a [C]tin hat, and they [G]gave me a [G]gunAnd they [G]sent me [D]away to the [G]war [G]

And the [G]band played [C]Waltzing [G]Matilda[G]As we [G]sailed [C]away from the [D]quay [D]And [C]amidst all the [C]tears, shouts[G]and the [G]cheersWe [G]sailed off for [D]Gallipoli[G /]

And how [G]well I [C]remember that [G]terrible [G]dayWhen our [G]blood stained the [D]sand and the [G]water[G]And [G]how in that [D]hell that they [C]call Suvla [G]BayWe were [G]butchered like [D]lambs at the [G]slaughter [G]

Johnny [D /]Turk he was ready, he'd [C]primed himself [G]wellHe [D /]showered us with bullets, and he [C]rained us with [G]shellsAnd in [G]five minutes [C]flat he'd [G]blown us all to [G]hellNearly [G]blew us right [D]back to [G]Australia [G]

And the [G]band played [C]Waltzing [G]Matilda [G]As [G]we stopped to [C]bury our [D]slain[D]And [C]We buried [C]ours, and the [G]Turks buried [G]theirsAnd it [G]started all [D]over [G]again[G]

Now [G]those that were [C]living, did their [G]best to [G]surviveIn that [G]mad world of [D]death, blood and [G]fire [G]And for [G]seven long [D]weeks I [C]kept myself [G]aliveWhile the [G]corpses [D]around me piled [G]higher [G]

Then a [D]big Turkish [D]shell knocked me [C]arse over [G]titAnd [D]when I [D]awoke in me [C]hospital [G]bedAnd saw [G]what it had [C]done, well, I [G]wished I was [G]deadNever [G]knew there was [D]worse things than [G]dying[G]

So no [G]more I'll go [C]Waltzing [G]Matilda[G]To the [G]green bushes [G]so far and [D]near[D]For to [C]hang tent and [C]pegs a [G]man needs two [G]legsNo more [G]Waltzing [D]Matilda for [G]me[G]

So they [G]collected the [C]crippled, the [G]wounded, the [G]maimedAnd they [G]shipped us back [D]home to [G]Australia [G]The [G]legless, the [D]armless, the [C]blind, and [G]insaneThose [G]proud wounded [D]heroes of [G]Suvla [G]

And [D /]as our ship pulled into [C]Circular [G]QuayI [D]looked at the [D]place where me [C]legs used to [G]beAnd thanked [G]Christ there was [C]nobody [G]waiting for [G]meTo [G]grieve and to [D]mourn and to [G]pity[G]

And the [G]band played [C]Waltzing [G]Matilda[G]As they [G]carried us [G]down the [D]gangway[D]But [C]nobody [C]cheered, they [G]just stood and [G]staredThen they [G]turned their [D]faces [G]away[G]

And [G]now every [C]April I [G]sit on my [G]porchAnd I [G]watch the [D]parade pass [G]before meI [G]see my old [D]comrades how [C]proudly they [G]march[G]Reliving the [D]dreams of past [G]glory[G]

I [D /]see the old men, all [C]twisted and [G]tornThe [D /]forgotten heroes of a [C]forgotten [G]warAnd the [G]young people [C]ask me"What are [G]they marching [G]for?"And [G]I ask [D]myself the same [G]question[G]

And the [G]band plays [C]Waltzing [G]Matilda [G]And the [G]old men still [G]answer the [D]call[D]But [C]year after [C]year their [G]numbers get [G]fewerSoon [G]no one will [D]march there at [G]all [G]

[G /]Waltzing Matilda, [C /]Waltzing Matilda[G / /]Who'll go a-Waltzing Matilda with [D]me?
