PARISH MISSION STATEMENT Our Lady of the Annunciation Roman Catholic Parish is a people of living faith rooted in the Gospel,

centered on the Eucharist and led by the Holy Spirit.

We are inspired by the example of Mary to continue the mission of Jesus Christ by ministering to all.

FROM THE PASTOR FEB. 2, 2014 ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL The Annual Catholic Appeal 2014, “Make Me a Channel of Your Peace” begins this month. You may already have received a mailing from the Archbishop about this year’s campaign. If so, you may bring it to our kick-off next weekend to place in the basket or you may mail it in directly to the Archdiocese. The emphasis this year, taken from our Holy Father Francis’ example, is to follow in the footsteps of St. Francis of Assisi and do whatever we can, little or large, to be an instrument of God’s peace in the world. When we reach out and help others, together we can make an impact for good in the world. If everyone does something, then we all become a blessing to those in need. One of the works of the Annual Catholic Appeal is the funding of our future priests’ education. We are so blessed to have 40 seminarians studying for the Archdiocese of Santa Fe! However, the average cost of edu-cating a seminarian is $27,000 per year. If you do the math, that comes up to over 1 million dollars per year, just for their education. It is through your generosity to the ACA that this is made possible. With the increase in seminarians this year, we also have an increase in our archdiocesan goal to $158,000. We were blessed to almost double last year’s goal of $146,000 and I am hopeful that we can do as well this year with a combined archdiocesan and parish goal of $316,000. The rebate over the archdiocesan goal is used, tax-free, for our own parish projects. If you have not contributed before to the ACA, welcome on board, because you too can help prepare priests for our future as well as assist in the many other works of the ACA. Thank you for all who have supported us in the past and may God bless you as you contribute again this year. May we all find the joy and peace of St. Francis as we serve those in need through the ACA 2014! IS CHRIST DIVIDED? AN ECUMENICAL OPPORTUNITY

The Ecumenical Institute for Ministry (EIM), which was begun by the New Mexico Conference of Churches and is housed at the Norbertine Abbey, is offering a 4-week course that explores the roots of ecumenism and gives participants the opportunity to practice respectful dialogue. Facilitated by a Presbyterian, Rev. Dr. Judith Todd and a Catholic, Jennifer Murphy-Dye, “Is Christ Divided? Exploring the Ecumenical World Around Us” will be held on Tuesday evenings at Annunciation (Feb. 11, 18, 25, and

March 4) from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. using materials developed for the 2014 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. The cost is $40 and includes all materials and refreshments. Register by Feb. 4 with Rev. Dr. Judith Todd, program coordinator, at 505-873-4399, ext. 229 or [email protected]. MARCH FOR LIFE Thanks to all who participated in the Santa Fe March for Life commemorating the tragic Roe vs. Wade deci-sion. Annunciation made a strong showing among the thousand plus marchers. The Cathedral of St. Francis was packed, particularly marked by large numbers of youth! I am convinced that it will be through the witness of just such young peo-ple that we will see light in the midst of the darkness of our culture. Jesus said, “I came that they might have life and have it more abundantly” John 10:10. May we all discover what an abundant gift life really is and better prepare ourselves for the eternal life God has in store for the faithful forever!

Feast of the Presentation

of the Lord

Today is a special feast. It’s called the Presen-

tation of the Lord. The gospel is from Luke

and it tells of Joseph and Mary following the

Jewish tradition of taking their child to the

Temple to dedicate him to God.

Question of the Week

Question for Children: What do you want to

tell others about Jesus?

Question for Youth: Simeon said that Jesus

would be a “light to all nations.” When, where

or how do you see the light of Jesus?

Question for Adults: Mary and Joseph took

their faith seriously enough to make a return

to the Lord of the most precious thing in their

lives, their son, whom they presented to God

in the Temple. How do you return to God that

which is most precious to you?

Coming soon… a new Lenten program for the parish

Living the Eucharist is a new, parish-based program designed to help revitalize parish life and spirituality through a more profound experience of Sunday Mass. It helps the entire parish—adults, teens, and families— grow in their Catholic faith and live more fully as disciples of Jesus. This program will take the place of a retreat this year. The 6 session program will begin the week of March 2nd and end the week of April

6th. We will offer several different times and locations of the program. Watch the bulletin for more information about Living the Eucharist in the next few weeks. Call Leslie for more information.

If you are interested in becoming a Lector or Communion Minister and were unable to attend last week’s

Training Sessions, please contact the Liturgy Office (298-9636) to let us know of your interest and to arrange a

training session.

We are working on the next Liturgical Minister Schedule. If there are dates or times this spring when you

will be unable to serve, please let us know in writing as soon as possible!! The Schedule will run from

March until early June. A Sign-Up page for the Liturgy Soup Supper, Altar Servers for Lenten Friday Stations

of the Cross, and Liturgical Ministers for Holy Week services will be included.

If you like music and enjoy singing, all our choirs (and Cantor Ensembles) always welcome new members.

Rehearsal times are listed in the bulletin each week. Easter is in late April, and Pentecost isn’t until June, so

there is plenty of time to join a group to prepare and participate in these great liturgies.

Please keep the sick and homebound of our parish in your prayers.
