CWS is working to build up their food pantry with canned meats and protein items. For our October meeting they would appreciate donations of canned chicken, tuna, ham, beanie weenies, chili, Vienna sausages,Aalfredo or spaghetti sauce, as well as Nabs and Luncheables. For November, CWS asks for holiday food items: frozen turkeys, hams and holiday dinner fixings. You may take frozen/perishable foods directly to the CWS office address listed above; I will also have coolers at the November 17th meeting. For December, they ask for gift wrapping supplies: paper, gift bags, ribbon, tissue, tape, bows, gift tags

2016 NOVEMBER RETREAT
As always, the Fall Retreat is LOTS of fun working with each other. We always have some surprise in store for the group. If you have never attended a retreat with our group, you don’t know what you a missing. Please reserve these dates on your calendar for the Fall Retreat - October 30 – November 4 at the Clam Digger Hotel. We will be able to have a late afternoon check-in on Sunday, October 30. There will not be a second retreat in November this year. We did not reserve an extra week soon enough and the Clam Digger is all booked until Thanksgiving. The daily room charge is $45 a night. Remember that you need to make your own reservations with the Clam Digger, along with your name on my sign-up list. When you call the Clam Digger, please let them know that you are part of the Twin Rivers Quilt Guild Fall Retreat. The phone number is 252-247-4155. They will review room charges and room cancellation process and
Page 4 of 9
potential charges. As usual, you can book a single room or get a roommate. However we must have at least 15 booked rooms to be able to have the retreat. Any questions, contact Chris Gillespie or Dorothy Najarian
2017 WINTER RETREAT January 15 (Sun.) – Jan. 20 (Fri), 2017 If you weren’t at the Aug. 11 Business Meeting, you missed the update on changes at the ClamDigger Inn which will affect our retreats beginning in January 2017. To compress the info, the Inn has been bought, and the new owners are not only updating and fixing up, but raising the prices to match other motels in the area. After investigating several other places, it was decided that the January retreat would still go to the ClamDigger. Changes include: nightly room fee of $69 plus taxes, 20 room requirement for the 5 nights, and $200 for the week for the use of the Bogue Room. Therefore, when we take your name for the retreat (beginning Oct.1), we are requiring a $10 fee to cover the cost of the Bogue Room. This is non-refundable and non-transferable. We must have your signup and $10 by Dec. 8. Important: Email to Sue Kleeman ([email protected]) and send a check in the mail, or see her in person. No phone calls! Then, you must call your reservation in to the ClamDigger with your credit card number by Dec. 25. (1-800-338-1533 or 252-247-4155 ext. 0) Tell them you are with TRQG and the dates of the retreat. These dates are important! We are now required to sign contracts, and if we don’t get the required number of reservations, we must cancel the retreat. This is new to us, too, so please bear with us.

2016 RAFFLE QUILT
On Saturday, Oct. 22 our raffle quilt will have found it's forever home. I hope it was yours! As you know ticket sales have been tremendously successful. They would not have been without the help and support of all you wonderful quilters. Thank you all for making my job easier and so much fun. I loved. it. Till next time Kathy Farrar
DONATIONS Bring your hotel/motel soaps, shampoos and lotions to the guild to be given to Religious Community Services (RCS) by Alvina Diello. Or if you choose, you can take your donations directly to RCS.
They are located at 919 George Street, New Bern and also are in charge of the homeless shelter and soup kitchen.
RCS does not sell anything that is donated to them - they give it to the needy or use it in the soup kitchen. They also take household items as well as furniture. They have a van and will come and pick up large items. Thank you for your thoughtfulness and caring for those less fortunate. Alvina Diello
2015-2016 Challenge Quilt I’m hearing very nice comments concerning this category for our show. Sounds like lots of excitement and creative ideas are going into these quilts. If you haven’t finished yours yet you have time to complete it. Time is fast approaching for our in October. It will be fun looking at all the ideas and fabrics bring them to life. Don’t delay if possible jump right on it and

Putting together a wreath with lots of spools of thread. If you have old thread on a spool that you know the thread is no good but you want to "donate" it to a cause please hand them over to me. If you have some empty spools I will be glad to take those. The only size I can't use are the really big spools that we use for machine quilting. If anyone has spools to donate you can email me at: [email protected] and bring them to the October business meeting or the Quilt Show Meeting.
Business Meeting Etiquette
In the interest of expediting our meetings, keep the flow going, and showing respect to each other, the following will be implemented. Our bylaws state that we conduct meetings following Roberts Rules of order, therefore if you would like to
speak to the membership, raise your hand, be recognized, give your name and state your business. In order to try to make the meeting shortened, please try to arrive 30 minutes early (9:30am) to do your sign in, get Block of the month, take care your procedural items before the meeting is called to order at 10:00am. That we can have your full-undivided attention for the meeting, eliminate confusion, and make the meeting shorter. Thank you,
MENTORING COMMITTEE We are glad to welcome a new member to the Mentoring Committee: Pam Jessup. I appreciate Pam accepting the idea of being on the Mentoring Committee. Our goal is to act as a source of information to the newest members and answer any questions they may have. We want our newest members to know about the fun we have, how to get involved, and all the many opportunities available to an active TRQG member. If you have any questions, please email Chris Babich at [email protected] or call at 252-626-4460.

The Whimsey Awards
This year, we are introducing 8 new awards for our Guild’s Quilt Show. Meet the “Whimsey Awards”… By their very name, you know that something fun and playful is in the air. As you view the quilts, look for a very bright, large prize ribbon with green polkadot yoyo and striped streamers!!! The categories aretotally capricious and humorous, and will hopefully make you smile. (They are NOT meant to be serious!). We have kept them a surprise, because think about it…look at the categories….how could you ever begin to make a quilt to fit one of them!!! Enjoy, and Congratulations to the Whimsey Award winners!! Whom ever you may be… If you have entered a quilt, please check it to see if you have won (some of the prizes should be picked up from vendors at the show.. Thanks Pam Bonina
