President’s Message

Once again I want to thank all of you that participated in the challenge, the quilts were just wonderful and I'm sure the nursing home will be happy to have them. Monthly Refreshments Refreshments this month will be provided by the members listed. The member whose name is first in the list each month is the coordinator for the refreshments that month. The refreshments can be as simple or as complicated as the volunteers de-cide. Please remember the responsibilities of the refreshment committee each month: 1) Supply the goodies. 2) Supply the paper and plastic utensils. 3) Clean up after. 4) Take garbage out. Dumpster is right

outside the back door. It is important that each us remains com-mitted to these responsibilities. Thanks!!

Members at Large Thank you for all of your donations at the June meeting. You donated 25 quilts which gives us a grand total for 59 for this year. I also have the President's Challenge quilts which will be delivered to Altoona Nursing and Rehab in the next week or so. I believe there were 15 quilts in the challenge, but not all were donated to the nursing homes. Nice job, Ladies! Door prize winners for June were Mary Burns and Rita Prock. Clarification on donation quilts drawing entries: If you make a donation quilt by piecing, quilting and binding it yourself, you can enter your name once in the drawing box. If you help in any way with a quilt by piecing, quilting or binding a quilt, you can enter your name for that work. But, you may only enter your name once per quilt even though you may have done 2 things on a quilt. If you have questions about this, please see Bert or Diana. If anyone would like to donate fat quarters for our birthday basket, please see Bert or Diana.

Here is a photo of the donation quilts collected so far this year. Thank you so much! Your Directors at Large Diana Weirich and Bert Warrick

Workshop Vote Confusion

At the June meeting, our President brought up the topic of workshops. As noted in the June newslet-ter, the guild has had a financial issue with offering workshops and then not having enough people to break even. After some discussion, LauraBelle Proehl made a motion to limit the number of workshops to 1 per quarter. The membership voted and that motion passed. After some questions and discussion about the wording of the motion, the board realized the motion may not accomplish the intended purpose, which is to minimize monetary loss. The motion also would limit the time frame when workshops could be offered, as well as the number of any kind of workshops, not just workshops that are paid. For example, the Program Chair may wish to schedule workshops given by our members and the motion wording would include those types of workshops in the number per year. For these reasons, LauraBelle Proehl withdrew the original motion. Thanks, LauraBelle!

Craft Sale The Guild has secured a spot at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church craft sale. It will be held on October 8th from 8:30 am to 3 pm. Volunteers are needed to help set up, tear down, work at the table, and espe-cially, make lots of crafts to sell. On the following page, there is a list of possible items that you might wish to make to sell, but you are certainly not limited to that list. Please see Gundel Basart to volunteer or provide items. We cannot succeed without lots of support!

Note: NO Halloween items al-lowed. This church does not allow Halloween items to be sold at their location. Think Fall, rather than Halloween. Pumpkins are okay, Jack O’Lanterns are not.

August Workshop with Shelly Burge

STARS, STARS AND MORE STARS

This class is a favorite of Shelly’s students. It is a great project that can be pieced by hand or machine. The technique of using freezer paper for templates will make it a snap to sew the unusual angles and odd shaped pieces smoothly and accurately. Patterns are provid-ed for a variety of star blocks and students will also draft their own star designs using Shelly’s “No Math” drafting technique. The workshop will be held at Cross Creek at 1 p.m. on August 14. Please see Paulette Roche to sign up for this workshop.
