Welcome to the Royal College of Nursing’s Sta� Awards for Excellence 2017

Every day dedicated teams and individuals working for the Royal College of Nursing go to extraordinary lengths to support our 435,000 members.

Recognising and rewarding our staff for their hard work and achievements is a vital part of our

employee engagement strategy. Our innovative biennial awards scheme has helped us gain Investors in People Gold Standard Accreditation and contributed to the RCN’s recognition - by the Sunday Times - as one of the Top 100 Best Companies to Work For in the not for profit sector.


A democratic process and a night to remember

This summer, all staff and members across the RCN will be invited to nominate individuals and teams who they believe have achieved excellence in their work. That could be through their positive energy and passion; working together to develop viable opportunities for the RCN to grow; or consistently going the extra mile. From these nominations, the awards panel of senior RCN members, staff and our sponsors will have the challenging but enjoyable task of agreeing a final shortlist of outstanding employees.

The winners will be announced at our prestigious awards ceremony, attended by all shortlisted staff and their nominees, senior RCN staff and members, and special guests including our partners. This is our fifth Staff Awards for Excellence, and this year it will be celebrated at One Marylebone, London NW1 on Thursday 23 November.

Our Staff Awards mean a lot to me. I’ve really enjoyed presenting awards at the previous two ceremonies, it’s a great event and one I value and I know staff do too. It’s our chance to celebrate the contribution staff make to our members and the nursing profession, and to acknowledge the great work we do together. Seeing everyone have such a fantastic time at the previous awards night put a huge smile on my face, and I felt such a great amount of pride for the RCN and all our staff. I’m looking forward to this year’s awards and hopefully I will see you there too.

• Your company name will be included in articles promoting the awards that are published in our flagship monthly member magazine RCN Bulletin and our monthly newsletter for active RCN members, Activate.

• Your company logo will be featured on all internal marketing material promoting the awards, including posters (displayed in all 16 RCN offices) and all staff emails referring to the awards.

My 36th year at the RCN is fast approaching and I’ve been married to the RCN a year longer than to my husband! Throughout my time, I’ve worked across the organisation, with nearly every department and with such a variety of people. We keep on talking about a big family, well the RCN is my big family; I never mind giving extra and I just give automatically because I get so much in return. I wasn’t sure if I’d definitely won!
