The Renaissance Refers to a time of exceptional creativity
and change in Europe Produced new attitudes towards culture
and learning Began in Italy and spread
to the rest of Europe
Why does the Renaissance begin in Italy?
Center of Roman learning that the Renaissance was based
Italian City States were also the center of trade and manufacturing in Europe
These City States had the wealth and powerful merchant class who wanted but were also willing to finance the Renaissance
The Renaissance Social thought began to change as education
began to be viewed as a necessity A true Renaissance Man should be educated, well
mannered, and a master of many fields. Particularly if you were an Aristocrat.

but rather how to move up socially
Renaissance Literature Castiglione’s The Ideal Courtier talked
about how socialites where supposed to act in royal court. Has a massive impact on manors and fashion.
Machiavelli’s The Prince talked about how to get and keep power
Machiavelli says that a successful ruler does whatever it takes to rule without regard for right and wrong, good and evil

focus on worldly subjects rather than religious issues.
No longer accepted the world around them without question, instead they began to try and understand it
