Mosttraditionalstockmarketrelatedinvestmentsgiveyoutheopportunitytoshareonlyinthegrowthofaparticularmarket.Ifthemarketrises,sotoodoesthevalueofyourinvestment.Equally,ifthemarketfalls,sodoesthevalueofyourinvestment.However,theNavigatorIndexaimstogrowwhentheUKstockmarketisbothrisingandfalling.

TheStockMarketisthetop100UKcompaniesbyMarketCapitalisation(calculatedbymultiplyingthenumberofsharesofacompanybyitssharepricetogiveitssize)

Thepotentialforgrowthinallmarketconditions

TheNavigatorIndexisdesignedtogrowregardlessofwhichdirectiontheStockMarketismoving,offeringyouthepotentialtomakeapositivereturnonyourAccountinbothrisingandfallingmarkets.TheAccountaimstogrowyourmoneyoverafiveyearterm,whileprotectingyourDeposit,aslongasyoukeepitopenuntilmaturity.AnypotentialreturnsonyourAccountdependontheperformanceoftheNavigatorIndex.

ThegrowthoftheNavigatorIndexiscalculatedbycomparingtheInitialLeveloftheNavigatorIndexatthestartoftheAccountwiththeFinalLevel.TheFinalLeveliscalculatedontheExpiryDateandistheaverageleveloftheNavigatorIndexinthelast12monthsoftheTerm.AnyreturnpayableonyourAccountattheendoftheTermwillbeequaltothegrowthintheNavigatorIndex.

TheNavigatorIndexinactionTheNavigatorIndexisdesignedtogrowregardlessofwhichdirectiontheStockMarketismoving.ItalsoaimstoprotectagainstvolatilepricemovementsintheStockMarket.

TheNavigatorIndexuses3stepstomonitortheStockMarket:

Step1- TrendDirection:monitorthedirectionofapricetrendbyobservingcurrentpricescomparedtohistorical averageprices.

Step2-TrendStrength:monitorthestrengthofapricetrendbycomparinghistoricalaveragepricesoverdifferent timeperiods.

Step3-PriceVolatility:monitorswingsinpricesbylookingathistoricalpricesandtheirmovementsaround theiraverage.

Atthestartofeachmonth,theNavigatorIndexfollowsStep1abovetodeterminetheTrendDirectionoftheStockMarket:•IftheTrendDirectionoftheStockMarketispositive,andthentheStockMarketrisesthatmonth,theNavigatorIndexwillrisetoo.•IftheTrendDirectionoftheStockMarketisnegative,andthentheStockMarketfallsthatmonth,theNavigatorIndexwillrise.•However,iftheTrendDirectionispositiveornegative,andthentheStockMarketdoestheoppositethatmonth,theNavigatorIndexwillfall.

BasedontheresultsofSteps2and3,theNavigatorIndexwillalsodetermineitsexposuretomovementsintheStockMarket.

Step2takesintoaccountthestrengthofthetrendandStep3takesintoaccountthevolatilityintheStockMarket.TheaimistotakeadvantagewhentheStockMarketistrendingstronglyineitherdirection,whilstreducingexposureoftheNavigatorIndextoweakertrendsandvolatilepricemovements.Thisisexplainedfurtherintheflowchartonpage4.

ThefollowingdiagramshowshowtheNavigatorIndexwouldhaveperformedoverthepasttenyearsincomparisonwiththeFTSE100Index.FortheNavigatorIndex,thesimulatedpastperformancehasbeenproducedusingactualhistoricaldatabetweenSeptember2000and23rdApril2009.From24thApril2009,thischartrepresentstheactualpastperformanceoftheNavigatorIndex.

WhatreturnscouldIgetattheendoffiveyears?Thefollowingtable,basedona£10,000Deposit,showswhatyoumightgetbackattheendofthefiveyearterm.ThesefiguresareexamplesonlytoshowwhatyoucouldgetbackfromtheDeposit.WhatyouwillgetbackdependsontheperformanceoftheNavigatorIndex.
