The Wesleyan University- Philippines’ Mass Communication’s parody of the box office hit; She’s Dating the Gangster, was highlighted in an article of ABS-CBN.com last July 25.

The video is one of the three hit parodies in Youtube, Twitter and Facebook of the movie that were acknowledged in ABS-CBN’s webpage.

It also won “Best in Movie Trailer Parody” in the College of Arts and Sciences

(CAS) acquaintance party last July 11, after beating three other parodies in the vent.

It garnered 13, 361 views on Youtube alone, 894 likes and 484 shares on Facebook.

Senior Mass Communication students Eunice Diocares and Big Boy Joe Valdez played the part of Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla in the parody.

In an interview with Diocares, she said that they were not expecting to receive so much positive feedback from their parody.

Diocares said that when their class made the parody they werem not expecting to win the contest during the CAS acquaintance party.

“Noong una, gusto lang talaga namin makapagpasa ng entry na parody acquaintance party, noong ginagawa namin iyong parody hindi naman namin iniisip na mananalo kami o ano pa man, basta gusto lang talaga namin iyong gingawa namin at nag-enjoy lang talaga kami.” she said.

College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Dean Michael Fronda confirmed the s revision of the college curriculum next school year.

The revision was brought by the Commission on Higher

Education’s demand to uplift the standard of education in the Philippines.

According to Fronda the integration will make the college graduates to be more competitive inside and outside the country.

He also said that the revision of the college curriculum and

syllabus is in line with the K-12 program of the government.

“Kasi ito ‘yung demand, pagbabago sa educational system sa Pilipinas. Kasi kapag hindi tayo magko-conform doon sa international standard eh baka maiwan tayo. Eto kasi magiging pabor din sa atin

headlinesCAS freshman wins first place in the ‘3rd Kathang Metapora’

Three College of Arts and Sciences students won in the 3rd Kathang Metapora last August 22 at the university auditorium.

Kathang Metapora is the annual literary competition of Genré, the student media office of Wesleyan University-Philippines.

Among the winners were Coleen Sopongco, first year, 1st place in poetry writing; Emmanuel John Pangan, third year, 2nd place in essay writing; and John Paul Dizon, first year, 2nd place in short story writing and 3rd place poetry writing.

The competitions were divided into high school and college divisions, composing of four categories: essay writing, poetry writing short story writing, and photojournalism.

Along with the competition, Genré also held the first Sandiwa, the literary competition and journalism skills training

seminar for high school and college students. Different schools and publications around Nueva Ecija attended the event among them are the WUP, Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology, Central Luzon State University, Araullo University, and Cabiao National High School.

The newly founded college publications of WUP were also

present in the event.The speakers were Professor

Ramon Valmonte who discussed news writing and Photojournalism; Professor Eros Atalia, short story writing; ; Mark Angeles, poetry writing; Professor Julie Anne E. Luna, essay writing; and Ronals Castillo, literary graphics.

The event was in celebration of the 20th anniversary of Genré.

CAS students dominates ‘Buwan ng Wika’

The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) won first place in three out of seven contests during the celebration of Buwan ng Wika held in the university auditorium last August 20.

Junior Mass Communica-tion students Faith Chloe Patac-sil and Kim Jasper Alfaro won first place in the dual singing competition.

Ronalee Agustin also a ju-nior Mass Communication stu-dent came in first in the solo singing competition.

Faith Chloe Patacsil, junior Mass Communication student won first place in the essay writing competition.

While Quin Jane Aldave, junior Political Science student also came in first in the oratorical speech.

In an interview with Aldave, she said that she is happy to represent the university especially in such a prestige event.

She promised that Patacsil and her together with the other representives will do their best to make the university proud.

The two will be representing Wesleyan University-Philippines (WUP) in the 54th National RYLI seminar on December in Baguio City.

Also among the winners were Angelica Sapiandante, second place in the battle of the brains; Naomi Lacson, third place poster making and Lhara Yambot, third place extemporaneous speech.

The program was organized by the Political Science Society under the supervision of their adviser, Knights of Rizal member, Professor Ferman Lazatin. The event was in coordination with the Kabataang pangarap ni Rizal WUP chapter, Knights of Rizal Cabanatuan City Chapter, and newly founded Las Damas de Rizal Cabanatuan City Chapter.

The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) held their annual acquaintance party with the theme “Mystique” last July 11 at the university gymnasium.

Students were asked to wear masks that best describes their personality.

Freshemen Paul Edward Idel and Micthie Callos were crowned as Mr. and Miss Faces of the Night after being chosen from the crowd. Both were surprised and said that they did not expect that they would be chosen.

Political Science majors innovate with new uniformsThe Political Science Society

made an innovation after their request to have their own uniform was approved by the Office of Student Affairs last July.

Led by their officers, the Political Science Society presented a new design for the students taking the course. The motion was also apporved by their adviser, Professor Ferman Lazatin, and College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Dean Michael Fronda;

students would wear white Barong while the female would wear white long sleeves together with black slacks, black shoes and pinned name tags. The new uniforms will be worn from Monday to Wednesday in school days and whenever they have a seminar or any activity in their parliamentary subjects.

It will also be their prescribed uniform during their on-the-job training subject. In their letter, the group indicated that they see the innovation a way for lower years to notice them and a

way to encourage younger CAS students to take the course.

In an interview with Jericho Guevarra, junior Political Science major, he said that the new uniform would give their society an identity, and make their presence in the university more prominent, which may help them to gain more population.

The Political Science Department currently has the smallest population under CAS with four seniors and 11 juniors enrolled.

Psych Society welcomes junior Psychology studentsPsychology student majors

held its annual Binyagang Sikolohiya at Hapag Kainan sa Hardin last August 21, 2014.

The event was an initiation for the juniors, as senior Psychology majors gave them their rite of passage to the Psychology Society.

The baby eggs of the junior Psychology majors were baptized in the event. The eggs are the Semestral project of the

juniors in their Developmental Psychology subject.

“Basically pinagawa samin ni Ma’am Annie yung itlog na

yon para alagaan namin from birth to death, parang anak lang talaga.” Jose Marco Antonio, junior Psychology student said.

Antonio mentioned that they were all happy after the event because they were formally welcomed in the Psychology Society.

Aside from the welcoming event the Binyagan also served as an acquaintance party for the Psychology Society alone.

Dr. Venus Vitales the former Psychology Society adviser was thankful about the growing population of the Psychology students.

Two Mass Com majors won the 10th Gawad Emman Lacaba held in Angeles City, Pampanga last October 20-24.

The Gawad Emman Lacaba is a literary and journalism contest held every Lunduyan, a regional press conference for tertiary publications organized by the College Editors’ Guild of the Philippines.

Maria Jubelle Legaspi, senior Mass Com student, won third place in the photojournalism and Faith Chloe Patacsil, junior Mass Com student, received a special citation in poetry making category, English division.

In an interview with Legaspi she said that she was not expecting that she would win, she did not even know that there

would be a photojournalism contest until the day of the event.

Luckily for Legaspi the theme of the photo contest was “Lansangan” which matches some of the photos that she had on her photo archive.

“Hindi ko alam kung ano iyong standards nila sa Lacaba pero ayon nag-third. Sobrang thankful ko doon kasi naramdaman ko talaga na photojournalist ako,” she said.

Legaspi took images of poverty which was described by Professor Michael Andrada of the University of the Philippines as photos that speaks not just exposing what is on the scene.

On the other hand, Patacsil with her poem entitled ‘Kremil-S’ described society like

a stomach ache which needs medicine. She emphasized during her impromptu speech a question why we are letting those trash came in to our mouths and

Fronda first alumnus to be college deanThe College of Arts and

Sciences (CAS) held its annual freshmen and transferees orientation last June 23 in the university amphitheater.

CAS dean Michael Fronda said that the purpose of the event was to help students to cope with their new environment.

The occasion is significant to Fronda because it was his first time to attend as dean. Fronda was the first college alumnus to be the CAS dean. After

meron tayong Science na program, hindi puro Arts lang, kasi ‘pag AB Mass Com, AB Political Science. ‘edi puro Arts lang siya. Kaya para maging Arts and Sciences tayo kailangan natin ng isang science program, sa ngayon ito ang inaayos natin,” Fronda said. The CAS dean also

said that the conversion would serve as a good advertisement not only for CAS but for the university as well.

According to him, since BS Psychology is a preparatory course for medicine, it may draw interest from other students outside the university.

The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) faculty led the celebration of the Rizal Youth Leadership Institute seminar last October 3 in the university auditorium.

16 CAS faculty staffs were inducted as members of the Knights of Rizal and Las Damas de Rizal. Professor Rennel Lucky Agustin, Kenneth Bien Seguiro and Vladimir Tamayo were announced as official members of the Knights of Rizal with Professor Nikko Salaysay from the College of Criminal Justice and Education and Professor Martin Angelo Seonoy.

Meanwhile, CAS also led the founding of the first batch of the Las Damas de Rizal in Cabanatuan City. Las Damas de Rizal is the female counterpart organization of the Knights of Rizal. Among the CAS professors who took oath were Professors Josephine Benignos, Venus Vitales, Annie Dinh Maria Alfaro, Rose Anne Beron,

Evangeline Agpoon, Nicamari Dela Cruz, Erminia Angeles, Leah Gan, Monica Suelto, Ruth Alfonso, Loveliness Galvez, Jhonah Micah Esteban, and Eufemia Ayro.

Peer Counseling Association takes offJunior Psychology majors

lead the founding of the Peer Counseling Association (PCA) last July.

The PCA was organized by the Psychology Society under the College of Arts and Sciences, whose main objective is to help and give advises to students with problems.

The PCA is currently working with the Guidance Office in reaching out to students .

She said that the junior Psychology students had already attended trainings and seminar.

She said that these trainings would help them, addressed issues concerning students’

problems. The PCA is currently composed of Psychology students.

According to Sta. Cruz even students from other colleges with different courses are welcome to join the organization and they are encouraging other students to take part in their advocacy.

Psych juniors elected

as PYAMH regional officers

Two junior Psychology majors were held as regional officers of the Psychology Youth Advocate for Mental Health (PYAMH) last September 25.

John Mark F. Paynor was elected as PYAMH Nueva Ecija Chapter Governor, and Mia Shane Q. Yambot was elected as the Public Relations Officer.

The aim of the PYAMH is to promote mental health as a right that everyone must know.

In an interview with Yambot she said that both her and Paynor were happy for being elected as regional officers of PYAMH, because not only their members but their fellow PYAMH members trust them. Yambot said that they are looking forward on their future plans for the PYAMH.

“Masaya naman ‘yung naging meeting namin, nakilala namin iyong ibang members ng PYAMH. Nakakatuwa kasi nandon kami lahat, kasi mayroon kaming iisang pinaglalaban at iyon nga ay iyong ipaalam sa tao ang kahalagahan ng mental health.” Yambot said.

Yambot also said that their connection with the PYAMH will help them as future psychologist.

The election was held in the 4th floor, Gymnatorium of the College of Research and Technology and was attended by the different institutions around Nueva Ecija.

Kaakibat na ng buhay ng mga tao ang pagbabago.

Isa itong mahalagang aspeto upang umunlad at hindi mapag-iwanan ng panahon.

Sa unibersidad kapwa departamento ang kanya-kanyang palit na ng kurikulum, subalit ang College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) ay nanatili pa din sa kanyang lumang kopya. Kaakibat ng pag-unlad ang pangangailangan ng mas mataas na antas ng kaalaman.

Likas na ba sa CAS ang mapag-iwanan? Kaya ba napaka kaunti ng bilang ng mga estudyante ng kolehiyo?

Ayon kay Prof. Michael Fronda, dekano ng CAS, utos ng Commission on Higher Education (CHED) na magkakaroon ng pagbabago sa kurikulum ng departamento at ito ay inaayos na sa ngayon. Gagawin ito upang masunod ang utos ng gobyerno at upang makasabay

isipan ano nga ba ang dapat kong isulat?

Dapat pa nga ba akong sumulat? Hindi naman ako ganoon kahusay sumulat kagaya ng iba, baka nga ikaw mas mahusay ka pang sumulat kaysa sa akin.

Bago pa man ang lahat, nais kong mag-pasalamat at sinimulan mong basahin ang artikulo kong ito at mas lalo akong magpapasalamat kung itong isinulat ko na ito ay babasahin mo hanggang sa dulo.

Mahirap mag-aral, sino nagsabi? Ako…Apat na taong gulang pa lamang ako ng simula akong pumasok sa paaralan, at

hanggang ngayon, halos buong kabataan ko nakaatang sa pag-aaral, isang bagay na kailanman hindi ko pagsisisihan.

Dahil ba sa pumapasok ka sa paaralan nag-aaral ka na? Dahil ba nagbabayad ka ng malaking halaga para sa pag-aaral eh matatawag ka ng estudyante? At dahil ba estudyante ka at nakapagtapos ng pag-aaral ay mayroon ka nang magandang buhay sa hinaharap?

Mahirap nga naman talagang mag-aral, sino ba naman ang may gusto na gigising ka ng sobrang aga, magbabayad ng sobrang taas na tuition at ang gagawin pa sayo ay pahihirapan ka sa pag-gawa ng mga kung ano-anong gawain gaya

ng pagsosolve ng kung ano-anong math problems, at paghanap sa kung ano-anong mga termino na pinulot kung saan-saan, tila tayo ay nagbayad ng mahal na tuition para lamang pahirapan. Ngunit ano nga ba ang nais kong ipunto sa pag-sulat nitong artikulong ito?

Mahirap mag-aral ‘yan lang naman ang nais kong ipunto, napansin mo siguro halos paulit-ulit ko na lamang binabanggit ang katagang iyan, pero isipin mo sa loob at labas man ng paaralan natututo ka. Wala man kasiguraduhan na kapag tayo ay nakapagtapos ng pag-aaral ay magkakaroon tayo ng magandang buhay ngunit sa pamamagitan naman nito maaaring ang mga

napag-aralan natin ay mag-silbing sandata natin sa buhay, maaari rin tayong maka-impluwensya ng mga tao sa pamamagitan ng ating mga napag-aralan, at lagi mong tandaan ikaw ang may hawak ng buhay mo, nakadepende sayo kung paano mo gagamitin ang mga natutunan mo sa paaralan para ikaw ay magkaroon ng magandang buhay sa hinaharap.

Lahat tayo ay may pangarap na balang araw makaangat sa buhay, at naniniwala akong sa pamamagitan ng pag-aaral, mas napadadali nito ang pagkamit sa ating mga pangarap. Kaya ano pang hinihintay mo? Hindi pa huli ang lahat para mag-aral ng mabuti.

If you would ask me, why I have chosen to take up Mass Communication, I would have probably stare at you and think really hard.

I’ve entered college without much vision of my future. I just thought that I belong in my current major because of my experiences in high school. These include journalism, specifically copyreading and headline writing, photography and music.

Little did I know that there’s more to my major than I have imagined. I’ve never thought that advertising, marketing or Theater Arts would be included in our field. And that there is a “kick-out policy” in Mass Com, wherein two fail grades means you’re out.

I’m still baffled by the fact that I’ll be the first in our barkada

to graduate in college. Many of them would either have shift into another course, had early pregnancies or financial problems.

In my first two years in college, whenever I’d ask my classmates what major they would take; they would answer either Mass Com or Psychology. In my third year, I’d sat in a very cold and sound-proof room without most of those who answered Mass Com.

Then I wondered what made them back out in the very last minute. Is it because of the “intimidating” professor/s? The retention policy? The fear of not being good enough?

It’s a good thing we choose our major in my junior year. Imagine spending one or two years in a course you’re not really sure of.

As Dr. Fritz Grupe, founder

of MyMajor.com said, 80% of college-bound students have yet to choose a major.

Moreover, according to the National Center of Education in United States, on average, college students change their major at least three times over the span of their college career.

There are common factors why students are quick in changing their courses. Very common is the pressure by the parents. They want this course but the student wants that. It’s really hard studying something you don’t take interest on.

Now, I won’t advice you to go confront your parents about this stuff but at least let them know what you really like or better yet show them.

Another is the “what’s in

demand is what I should take” thinking. This factor still falls on whether you really like what course is in demand or you’re just climbing on the bandwagon. What’s in demand does not equal to what suits you best.

Now, there are some students who did take their preferred courses but failed to study well.

In these cases, students should learn to enjoy learning. Learn to balance every little aspect of their life and their studies.

All in all, everything comes down to YOU—your choices, your preferences and your actions. It is not bad to change courses or majors, but isn’t it nice to graduate on time? Be of help to your parents and be their pride? Work on the field you like most? I definitely think so!

Konting kembot na lang, ga-graduate na kami! Whooooah! Well, sino ba naman ang hindi matutuwa ‘di ba? Kahit naman siguro si manong at ateng guard eh matutuwa dahil ga-graduate na ako, bawas sa mga estudyanteng palagi nilang binabawal dahil hindi naka uniform. Pati si Mang Maning mamimiss ako, huhubels.

Eh wait, bago ang lahat, bakit nga ba kasi favorite kaming habulin ng mga guards?Bakit hindi nag uuniform ang mga MassCom students?

student na kakilala ko, wala daw uniform ang MassCom, bongga ‘di ba, kaya bilang freshies, umasa kami na after second year, malaya na kami mula sa telang berde at kulay condensadang blusa. Sosyal! Hindi na hassle kapag gagala sa mall kahit nakauniporme.

PERO… Ito’y isang malaking kathang isip lamang, parang pag ibig, isang paasa, hindi totoo.

Ayon, nasaktan lang kaming mga taga assumeta na umaasa na makakapag ‘dress to kill’ na kami pagdating ng third year.

Isa pa, ang hirap para sa’min ang gumalaw-galaw para sa mga projects namin kapag naka

uniporme. Naniniwala kayo ‘di ba? Thank you ulit. :)Sa araw-araw na may pasok sa

unibersidad, maliban sa Biyernes, eh pagalingan ng palusot sa guard kung bakit hindi kami naka-uniform. Well, salamat na lang dahil may mga mababait na guards na ‘pag alam na MassCom student ka eh papapasukin ka na. THANK YOU PO!

Isa pa raw problema ng mga propesor eh maingay ang klase kapag may MassCom. Mga minamahal naming Mam at Sir, pagpasensyahan nyo na po kami dahil pinipilit naman talaga naming magpakatahimik. I did

my best, but I guess my best wasn’t good enough. So sad.

Pero ‘wag n’yo naman pong kalilimutan na sa Kolehiyo ng Agham at Sining, ang Mass Communication students ay hindi kayo iniiwan sa kahit na anong laban ng unibersidad, mula sa pagandahan, labanan ng talino at palakasan ng loob.

Kaya para sa mga nagbabalak na kumuha ng major na mass communication, hinahamon namin kayo, kailangan ng tatag ng loob, tibay ng dibdib, talas ng utak at kapal ng mukha, kapag meron ka nyan, kaya mo dito, welcome ka dito! Welcome ka sa Mass Communication!

Gaano ba kahalaga ang pagpapahalaga?

Simula noong napasok ako sa publikasyon, ito na ang lagi kong tinatanong sa sarili ko. Bakit nga ba natin kailangang pahalagahan ang mga bagay na mayroon tayo? Bakit may mga taong hindi marunong magpahalaga?

Bilang isang manunulat, masaya kami na maipahayag sa sambayanan ang gusto naming sabihin, ipakita sa paraan na kaya naming gumawa ng pagbabago sa pamamagitan ng pagsusulat. Ipaglaban ang tama at nararapat. Ipaabot sa mga mambabasa ang karapatan at gampanin ng isang indibidwal.

Sa isang publikasyon mahalaga ang pagkakaisa. Ang pagkakaintindihan ng bawat miyembro, anuman ang tungkulin, mataas man o mababa, may edad o mas bata, kaunti man o marami.

Ang pagsasamahan na walang kapantay ay nabubuo na parang isang pamilya, nabubuklod na grupo na may iisang layunin. Dahil katulad ng pagpapahalaga na ibinibigay niyo sa ibang tao nais din naming maramdaman ang pagtanggap at pagkonsidera. Mainam ngang maituturing ang pagkonsidira sa mga bagay na nariyan lamang sa paligid na kalimitan ay hindi nabibigyang

pansin ng karamihan. Mapag-ukulan ng pansin at bigyang oras ang mga bagay na sa tingin mo’y hindi napaglalaananng sapat na panahon.

Magbasa at magdadag pa ng kaalaman sa iyong utak na dala-dala’y mga impormasyong kinalap at isinulat, mga larawan na kuha sa kabi-kabilang pangyayari upang makabusog sa mga mata ng mga mambabasa, makiayon o makituligsa sa iba’t ibang opinyon mula sa iba’t ibang personalidad at marami pang iba. Sa bawat salita ay mayroong kahulugan, bawat pagpaparamdam ay mayroong emosyong nakalaan, ang bawat indibidwal ay mayroong tungkulin

na dapat gawin, at sa bawat gawain ay mayroong layunin. Patuloy na dumadalanging darating ang panahon at mabibigyan ng halaga ang lahat ng pagsisikap, ang mga pagpupuyat ay mapapalitan ng kaginhawahan, ang pagkakalap ng mga impormasyon upang may maisulat at maidagdag kaalaman sa lipunan ay mapagtutuunan ng pansin at makakalasap ng pagpapahalaga na simula pa noon…

Kahapon… Magpahanggang ngayon... At sa darating pang mga panahon… Patuloy na isinusulong, huwag sanang mabalewala sapagkat mahalaga kung ito’y papahalagahan.

Pwera biro, mahirap tanggapin na slow ka sa math. Madaming tao ang ginagawa nalang ‘yon na katatawanan, ang totoo ay ayaw lang nilang harapin at tanggapin na ‘yon ang kanilang kahinaan.

Walang ibang makakaintindi nito kundi ang mga hirap talaga sa numero... ‘Yung pakiramdam na napag-iiwanan ka ng mundo, yung feeling na ang bobo-bobo mo kahit hindi naman.

Kaya sa mga genius d’yan sa computation at sa mga out of the world formulas, na ginagawa kaming katatawanan, edi kayo na ang magaling.

Ganito yung pakiramdam non eh, habang nag-eexam para bang ang dilim ng paligid... habang ang lahat ay nakasubsob sa test paper, ikaw naman ay bukod tanging taas-noong nakikipagtitigan sa kawalan, umaasang bumukas ang langit at balibagin ka ng kasagutan. Para bang ikaw lang ang nasa loob ng room at may nakatutok na spotlight sayo.

Pakiramdam mo mabagal ang pag-ikot ng mundo, pero dinig na dinig mo naman ang malakas at mabilis na tik-tok ng orasan.

Sa loob ng isang oras na exam, dadalhin ka ng pagkakataon sa ibang dimensyon kung saan ligaw ka, naghihintay, nangangapa at pilit pinaniniwala ang sarili na

Maituturing ko itong isang droga.

Kinaadikan.Pinagkakaabalahan.Pinagkakalibangan.Siguro nagtataka ang marami,

ano nga ba ang meron dito na halos hatiin na nila ang kanilang oras makapaglaro lamang ng videogames?

Marahil ay mapapaisip kayo kung ano ang nararamdaman ng isang taong naglalaro ng mga computer games at para bang humaling na humaling sila sa paglalaro. Siguro’y hindi ka maniniwala kapag sinabi ko sa’yo na para sa mga manlalaro isa itong takas papaunta sa isang mundong mapanlinlang. Magulo man

at madugo paminsan-minsan, palang mayroong resolusyon. Gaya nga ng motto ng maraming manlalaro, “Gamers don’t die, they respawn.” Pamalit ang mundong kanilang pinupuntahan, kung tayo ng mga tao sa mundong ito’y nagpapatayan nang walang dahilan, marahil ay mas mabuti na ang isang mundong nagpapatayan para sa kanilang mga pinaglalaban at sariling bayan. Pero siyempre isa itong hindi makatotohanang mundo na may mga hindi makatotohanang mga pangyayari, unlimited na buhay at mga halimaw na iba’t ibang uri. Isang magandang halimbawa rito ang marahil isa na sa pinakasikat na laro sa buong

mundo, ang DOTA. Isang laro na ang layunin ay basagin ang tore ng kalaban at makapatay ng hero ng kalaban. Mahalaga ang teamwork sa laro na ‘to. Marami pang halimbawa ng laro mapa-solo man o maramihan.

Hindi naiintindihan ng iba pero maniwala man sila o hindi, may naidudulot rin naman na maganda ang paglalaro ng mga ito. Tulad na lamang ng pampawala ng stress, libangan, pampatay oras, pwede rin mahasa ang bilis ng pag-iisip, teamwork at kung anu-ano pa. Nakakapagsimula at nakakapagpatatag rin ang mga larong kagaya ng DOTA ng pagkakaibigan.

Pero tulad ng ibang

magagandang bagay, marami ring naidudulot na masama ang paglalaro ng mga video games at computer games lalong-lalo na sa mga estudyante. Ang iba kasi, imbis na pag-aaral ang atupagin at mga libro at notes ang harapin, sa computer shop namamalagi.

Meron naring mga napaaway dahil sa mga pustahan sa laro at may mga iniwan narin ng mga girlfriend. Pero nasa atin naman kung paano natin pagsasabayin ang paglalaro at ang iba pa nating mga gawain. Hindi masamang maglibang ngunit huwag nating kalimutan na may iba pang bagay na mas mahalaga. Sabi nga nila nakakasama ang kahit na anong sobra.

kina-career ang pagiging Pilipino. “Pilipino time” daw kasi eka nga. Laging late! Napagka-hihilig sa “Rush Hour.” Kung kailan DEADLINE na, saka lang mga nagsisigawa!

Sino ba naman kasi ang hindi

tatangkilik sa katamaran? Bukod sa hindi na nakapapagod, nakaka-relax pa. Mas masarap naman nga kasing mahiga, manuod ng TV, mag surf sa internet kaysa kultahin ang utak at pagurin ang katawan. Hindi ba?

BAWAL TALAGA ANG TAMAD! Walang mangyayari sa atin kung papa-iralin natin to. Marahil marami sa atin ang halos araw-wraw na naririnig ang sermon na tungkol dito. Ngunit ito’y papa-alala lamang.

May iba na umaasa sa galing nila. Oo na magaling ka na, pero ala pa rin yan kung hindi ka kikilos para mapakinabangan yang galing mo.

Dahil kahit gano ka katalino, kagaling, ka-talentado walang mangyayari kung hindi ka gagawa.

Pero hindi lang naman katamaran ang nagiging hadlang sa atin para tugunan ang mga responsibilidad.

Nandiyan ang pagod, problema, hectic na schedule, gabundok na gawain.

May ilan naman na may magandang rason, ngunit hindi pa rin sapat para ipagpaliban ang responsibilidad na ibinigay sa ‘tin. Hindi lang responsibilidad ngunit pati na rin tiwala.

Gusto mong wag kang bigyan ng responsibilidad? Kawawa ka

kung gayon. Dahil ibig sabihin hindi ka katiwa-tiwala.

Wag ng magreklamo kung maya’t maya may pinagagawa si boss.

Araw-araw may pa-assignment si prof. Pasalamat ka may tiwala sila sayo.

Isipin na lang, kung gano kadami ang ipinagagawa sayo ay ganun din kadami ang tiwalang ibinibigay nila sa iyo (pampalubag loob).

Mga kababayan ko, time is gold!

Hindi umiikot ang mundo para lang sa kung sino. Hindi hihinto ang oras para antayin tayong sipagin gumawa.

KULTURaAno ang una mong

naiisip ‘pag sinabing CAS o taga-CAS? CAS yan kasi… hmmm..CAS kasi kaya maingay.

Negatibo man pakinggan pero kung iisipin mo eh totoo naman. Maiingay sa klase ang mga estudyante ng CAS, siguro dahil na rin sa mga ideya na pumapasok sa isipan nila na kailangan na agad mailabas at mai-share sa iba. Oh di ba, isipin nyo, hindi porket maingay eh basta ingay na lang, minsan may sense din naman kaya wag agad-agad hinuhusgahan.CAS kasi kaya tamad mag-uniform.

Sa isang interview kay Security Chief Dr. Antonio T. Tiglao, sinabi nya na isa ang mga taga-CAS sa pinakamahirap pasunurin

pagdating sa pag-uuniform. Ayon sa kanya, isa daw ang mga CAS students sa pinakamahirap habulin sa gate dahil sa dami ng alam na excuse sa guard, siguro kulang ang one whole sheet of paper pag sinulat natin, halimbawa na lang a n g mga ito, “ G a g a w a lang po ng project”, “ M a g p a p a -assess lang po”, “Wala po kaming klase, ”Magpapraktis lang po kami”… Ilan lamang yan sa mga gasgas na palusot ng mga CAS students kapag hindi naka uniform. Hindi

ko alam kung anong

meron sa uniform, siguro makati at mainit… yung uniform.

Sa sobrang hilig kasi ng mga CAS student na i-express ang mga sarili nila, ayan tuloy sila ang number one sa paggawa ng eksena sa main gate.CAS kasi kaya mga pasaway.

Ayon na din sa ilang mga beteranong propesor in other words (yung majojonda na propesor ng ating unibersidad) isa ang

ating kolehiyo sa iniiwasan nilang turuan dahil pasaway daw ang mga estudyante ng CAS, maiingay at mga opinyonada! Hindi naman kaya masyado lang active ang mga estudyante kaya nagmumukhang maingay dahil sa mga sagot ng bawat

isa. Hindi po sila maiingay. Maniwala po kayo, please. Active lang talaga. More energy, mas happy. (Lesson Learned: Wag lumaklak ng ENERVON para di magalit sila mam at sir.)

CAS yan kaya late.Sabi nila, marami daw

sa CAS talagang Pinoy, marunong sumunod sa Filipino time, pero huwag naman lalahatin dahil may early birds rin naman kaming maipagmamalaki.

Talagang marunong lang mag-appreciate ng sandali ang iba sa amin.

Ang sakit noh, eh ano naman ang positibong katangian ng mga taga CAS?CAS ‘yan kaya palaban.

pakakabog ang CAS kahit dehado sa bilang. Ano nalang kung maglaro ng dalawa, tatlo kahit apat pa na laro, huwag lang matalo nang hindi lumalaban. Ganyan ang CAS never say die. Wala sa bokabularyo ang salitang suko. Bibong-bibong mga nilalang. Kaya nga kapag intrams kahit natatalo, nakangiti parin ang mgatao. CAS ‘yan kasi masiyahin.

Pansinin mo, alam mong CAS ‘yan ngiti pa lang. Iyon tipo ng ngiti na nakakangawit sa panga, iyong umaabot hanggang tenga. Kapag CAS student ang nakasalubong mo, unang tingin mo pa lang

sa kanya, iba na.CAS ‘yan dahil talentado.

May kailangan pa ba tayong pag-awayan?

Sa halos lahat ng aspeto eh di patatalo

ang CAS, mula sa sayawan, kantahan, pag-arte at maging pagsulat! Ehem… Ehem… Ehem… Competitive ang mga estudyante ng CAS dahil inborn na ata sa kanila ang kanya-kanyang talento.

Sa CAS, paramihan ng talent, kapag may talent ka, dapat wag mong itago, kapag may taglay kang ganda, ipakita yan! (it’s just a matter of confidence).

Oh di ba, hindi kakaunti ang titulong hawak-hawak ng CAS pagdating sa pagandahan, halos pinagpapasa-pasahan na nga ang, sino nga pala susunod sa akin?CAS ‘yan kasi magaganda!

Oo, maganda. Lahat sa CAS ay maganda at gwapo. Iba’t ibang fashion statement,

kanya kanyang rampa. Kahit ordinaryong araw ay laging parang may beauty contest na magaganap.

At dahil nga bihira o hindi nag-uuniform ang mga taga CAS, kering kering pangatawanan. Syempre, sa dami ng palusot na ginawa mo para lang makapasok sa gate, hindi mo pa ba susulitin ang outfit mo? Sayang ang laway sa pagpapaliwanag sa guard.CAS ‘yan kasi matatalino.

Patatalo ba naman ang CAS sa mga patalinuhan? Dyan naiaaply ang salitang pabibo. Go lang ang CAS sa kahit na anong laban. Syempre sino ba naman ang nangunguna tuwing may mga university events?

At take note hindi lang basta-basta talino dahil in born narin sa mga CAS students ang pagiging malikhain, malikot ang kanilang mga isip sa pagsusulat o di kaya’y paggawa ng sining. CAS ‘yan kaya panalo.

Pero magseryoso tayo ng konti, alam nyo ba na si President Guillermo T. Maglaya at President Manuel G. Palomo na naging president ng Wesleyan ay parehong alumnus ng ating kolehiyo?

Isama mo pa si Dr. Hillario Ortiz na president naman ng NEUST. Maging ang kasalukuyan na dean ng CAS na si Dr. Michael

Fronda ay alumnus din sa CAS. Masyadong mahaba kung sasabihin ko pa sa inyo ang bawat naging trabaho ng mga naka-graduate sa CAS, basta marami sila at kung saan-saan na sila nakarating.

Oh di ba, hindi basta basta ang ating nagiging mga produkto!

Malay mo ang katabi mo ngayon ang susunod na mayor ng bayan nyo o kaya ay gobernador ng lalawigan, maaari ring ang nagsulat nito ay ang susunod na Bb. Pilipinas, ayos di ba?!

Malay mo sa susunod ma-TV ka na. Kaya naman pagtuntong mo sa eskwelahan taas noo kang maglakad, dahil CAS ka, palaban, talentado, matalino maganda, ikaw na! Sino pa

SAN JOSEUP CLOSE AND PERSONAL

The golden boy of the dance floor, armed with his incredible moves and implausible footwork, who wouldn’t notice the groove of Jim Aldrin San Jose?

This man first caught my attention during the dance sport contest in the 2012 intramurals.Not all of you know him, because of his usually quiet and reserved, but once he steps into the dance floor it

would be hard to take your eyes off of him.Jim is currently a senior AB Psychology student in the College of Arts and Sciences.He was only three years old (yes, THREE) when he started dancing and the first competition that he joined was a

Barangay Dance Showdown. He and his cousins had a dance group then, and he came to be their youngest member. It was his aunt, as well as his cousins and brother, who influenced him to get involved with dancing.

Aside from dancing, Jim enjoys drawing. He participates at their school’s poster making contests during high school. He also is athletic and good at playing sports, like table tennis and swimming.

With his dancer-like physique, infectious facial expressions, amazing body movements and flexibility... No wonder this man might make a mark on the dancing industry someday.

I had the chance to interview the man of the hour,

*If you were a dance, what genre would you be?

“Jazz Punk. ‘Yung sayawang G-force. Idol na idol ko kasi talaga sila. Kaya rin siguro ako na-mold bilang dancer dahil sa inspirasyon ko sila. Balak ko rin mag-audition sa G-force pagkagraduate ko.

*How do you manage your time between studies and dancing? “Mahirap nung una, lalo na nung first year saka second year, ‘di ba alam niyo naman kapag AB? Kaya, sabi ko… Hala, paano ko kaya pagsasabayin to? Kung minsan nga hindi ko nagagawa ’yung assignment on time pero syemre nandyan naman ’yung mga kaibigan ko.(Naiintindihan naman nila ‘yung sitwasyon mo?) Oo naman! Ako pa ba? (smiles and laughs)

*If you were to dance for somebody, who would it be?

“Yung parents ko kasi hindi pa nila ako napapanood na sumayaw. Sa lahat ng contest na sinalihan ko puro video lang sila. Ngayon na nag-gro-grow ako as a dancer, naisip ko na iba pa rin talaga ‘pag ‘yung parents mo nandun sa harapan.”

*An advice for aspiring dancers:

“Kung ano ang nasa puso mo, sundin mo. Kung nararamdaman mo na dun ka inilagay ni Lord...GO! panindigan mo. Naniniwala kasi ako na kung hindi mo pinaghirapan, hindi mo makukuha ang gusto mo. Kailangang may hardwork talaga saka always PRAY.

like days with bad weather or having just one class in a day. Times such as these, they would prefer to wear jeans and shirts rather than going through all the hassle of preparing their school uniform. Groundless punishments

It’s unfair for students that during departmental examinations they would not be able to take the test if they ‘re not wearing school uniform. In

other universities they would go far as to suspending the students once they didn’t abide in the uniform policy.

The point here is that when it comes to exams, students are told that the only requirement that they need is their so called permit. One cannot measure a student by just looking at what he or she wears. A uniform does not make a student.Conflict of interests

If Wesleyan is so concerned on being organized and applying uniformity within the university, then why does the ID of the students vary from colleges to major even organizations? Colleges like College of Engineering and the College of Nursing and Allied Medical Sciences have a different ID lace. Majors like Mass Communication has a different style of ID.

Meanwhile professors in

the universities vary uniforms as well.

Teachers are supposed to be a role model of the students. Why are they free from the law that students are forced to abide on?

Schools try to manipulate students in wearing uniforms for their own cause.

Making students wear uniform is a free advertisement for them, a way for their

schools to make themselves known without putting much effort. They hope to attract attention from people outside their own jurisdiction, possibly increasing their population. Solution

In the end both sides must see though each other’s eyes. A school cannot exist without its students but the student must learn to comply in the regulations of the school because even when things seem off beam, maybe the institution itself has a purpose for their action.

Issues with uniform policies must be brought up by the students in a diplomatic way and heads of the university must take in consideration the voice of the students because they are the prime unit of the school.

A David and Goliath StoryEven back then, the

world has been fascinated about the

triumph of the underdog. A David and Goliath story,

repeated in the course of history. And just like the noble David, the College of Arts and Sciences, also known as the Eagles, had the same dilemma of defeating the giants. But unlike David, they were unable to beat their Goliaths.

In the recently concluded intramurals, the Eagles once again saw them-selves in the last row, with only 96 points. Because of their small population and their lack of athletic students, it was no surprised that the Eagles finished last.

They were powerless against the other colleges. But even though they were unable to come on top, the Eagles put off a

fight that was commendable. Because regardless of their

size and inadequacy, they still participated on some competitions that other big colleges did not dared to enter and they even thrived on some of the events.

From leaning towards other colleges for help, the CAS Eagles has definitely come a long way.

Now they stand on their own two feat and though it’s difficult, the Eagles still soar the sky with their heads up high, knowing that whatever happens in their venture they still have the support of each other. As we look closer in this year’s intramurals, it’s just history repeating itself, with only minor changes in the ranking. But then if we look closer into the numbers, you would see that the Eagles were able to beat their 63

points score last year. They were able to beat

themselves and in life that is the real enemy, that is who you are up against… yourself. There is more to sports than just winning and numbers. The intramurals represents more than just a competition of brawns and skills. It is a

time to cultivate camaraderie and sportsmanship within the colleges, a time to escape from academic responsibilities. It is not about the number of medals you’ve got or the number of battles you’ve won. It’s about you and your college taking the risk, going the distance and having fun.

Back in 2012 when I found out that the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Eagles would merge with the College of Criminal Justice and Education (CCJE) Stallions, I felt something wrong. But who am I to question their decision? I was only a freshman then and besides it was both of

the colleges’ decisionI guess people thought

that the merge would play at our advantage. Having those athletic criminology students would surely give us a higher chance to win more medals. People could finally see us as a competition rather than just a loser underdog. Everyone wants to be a winner. I felt happy when we ranked second next to the CBA Dragons at the end of the

2012 intramurals, But then I heard people say that CAS were just mere decorations during the intramurals, that all they had to do is look pretty and if it wasn’t for the CCJE we wouldn’t be able to get into that spot.

I can’t tell you enough how wrong they are in their accusations.The following year, both colleges withdraw a from their alliance. I’ve never been a player myself, but seeing how our athletes

train and fight during the intramurals, I couldn’t be more proud. You could see the eagerness and the determination in their eyes.

What’s more important in every game we play in life is to know that we did our very best and that whatever the outcome, we are already champion in the eyes and hearts of those who does not question our capabilities but treasures us for who we are.

The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) grabs the second spot position in the opening of this year’s Palarong Wesleyan last September 16 in the university gymnasium.

Mitchie Callos, first year student, was the first one who brought pride to the college when she won as the Binibining Palaro first runner up after showcasing her gymnastics skills.

Jim Aldrin San Jose and Jenica Canicosa won as champions in the sports dance competition after beating four other teams. Meanwhile the CAS Eagles hip-hop team came in as the first runner up in the hip-hop competition.

by San Jose and Canicosa together with Jeff Talania, David Christian Feliciano, Dan Gil Maramag, James Talania, Pia Cordero, Andrea Nava, Lyaneth Santos, Tashka Pascual and John Mark Aranas;

The College of Hotel Restaurant and Institution Management Phoenix took the lead with 41 points, after their hip-hop team gained back their title as champions of the dance floor. Meanwhile the College of Nursing and Allied Medical Courses came in third gathering a total of 24 points.The depending overall champions the College of Business and Accountancy Dragons came in fourth with a total of nine points. CAS was the only college that was able to place in all three events during the opening ceremony.

achieved their five peat victory as the overall champions of the intramurals after gathering a total of 464.5 points. The College of Nursing and Allied Medical Lions Sciences came in second with 239 points and the College of Engineering Sharks came in third with 221 points. The College of Criminal Justice and Education Stallions was able to rise in the fourth place with

209.5 points while College of Hotel Restaurant and Institution Management Phoenix was able to secure themselves in the fifth place with 169 points.

Meanwhile the College of Education Jaguars found themselves in the sixth place with 119 points and the College of Computer Studies Tiger fell in the seventh position with 119 points.

points and fourth is the College of Engineering Sharks with 34 points.

CAS Table Tennis fell short to second placeby: Jomar Silva

Two CAS taekwondo players barred from competingTwo College of Arts and

Sciences (CAS) students were disqualified in the Taekwondo competition held last September 18 at the university gymnasium.

Shane Trube, sophomore and Chester Vilar, senior Psychology student were both barred from their categories after their performance were objected by other colleges.

Vilar was protested, the morning before the competition, saying that he should be in the advance level because he already competed in Taekwondo last year and even received a bronze medal.

Meanwhile, Trube was forbidden to play after winning her first match. A Taekwondo instructor claimed that Trube received advance training in Taekwondo and should be in the

allegations, saying that she had a one day of training of Taekwondo in elementary.

Professor Mark Miranda, CAS Taekwondo coach was dismayed on how other colleges acted during the competition.

He sees no reason why Trube and Vilar should be disqualified, especially not during the competition itself.

Miranda was furious on how the Taekwondo committee handled the situation

“If someone would be barred from the competition, it should be done a day before the competition, so that both parties could talk, but we were caught off guard,” He said.

He also said that the rules and regulations of the competitions were unclear.

He said the letter from the Sports and Athletic Department wherein should have been six categories but a day before the competition they found out that there was only four.

Miranda also questioned why most of the CAS players competed against athletes from the College of Business and Accountancy, while the matches should have been electronically organized.

“We are not protesting because we don’t want to accept defeat, if we find out that we’re the ones who are at fault then we will accept it. We just don’t want this to happen again next year.” Miranda said

Meanwhile Francis Ortile, first year, won first place in the heavy weight category.

The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Eagles came in second in the table tennis competition on both male and female division last Palarong Wesleyan.

Ramsey Lopez, captain of the team was able to defend his championship title in the men’s single division set A against Alfred De Guzman, College of Engineering (COE) Sharks.

However Lopez and Jim Aldrin San Jose failed to win over the COE Sharks in the finals of the doubles competition.

In an interview with Lopez he admitted that the COE Sharks were a tough competitors especially in

the doubles division. But Lopez assured that they’ll be more ready next year, he said he was thankful that they had the full support of CAS.

Meanwhile newcomer Kinz Santos, first year student also lost in the finals of the single competition set B.

The COE Sharks became the overall champions in the men’s division and the College of Business and Accountancy (CBA) Dragons came in third.

Meanwhile the CAS Eagles female table tennis team came in second next to the CBA Lady Dragons in the finals of the doubles and singles competition.

The CBA Lady Dragons grabbed the first place while the College of Education Lady Jaguars came in third.

The CAS female table tennis team was composed by Ria Charmaine Baldonada and Queen Jane Aldave, Political Science majors and Maolyn Guevarra, sophomore.
