Message from The President
Dear Members,
The newly elected Council Members (elected on 20 June 2019) went to work immediately to prepare for two major events: The Annual Championships in August followed by the CASGA ASEAN Championships in September, not forgetting the Monthly Medal in July.
It was a challenge undertaken by the almost new Council Members. Both events were organised successfully. Thank you to the Organising Committees who worked long hours to ensure that the events were managed effectively. Thank you also to the staff, volunteers and sponsors who helped in the success of the two major events.
The Corporate Brochure was also completed in time for the CASGA Event, so, now we are prepared to have an aggressive Membership Drive. To encourage new members, the Committee have decided to offer a very attractive rate of RM1,070 which will cover the membership up to 31/12/2020 or pay RM3,070.00 anytime now until 31/12/2020 to be a Life Member.
The SGSM Order of Merit for 2019 was used for the selection of players to represent SGSM in the 36th ASEAN which was held at Glenmarie on 23 – 25 September,2019.
The President’s Trophy to be held on 12 December 2019 will be the last event for 2019 and Player of the Year Award will be held at the same time at The Mines Resort.
We all look forward for more members involved in all events organised by SGSM next year, especially the new members that joined in 2018 and of course members that joined this year. The 2020 Calendar of Events will be issued soon.

3. CASGA—36TH ASEAN Senior Amateur Golf Championships
23—25 September 2019
Glenmarie Golf & Country Club
A total of 256 particip[ants from 6 ASEAN Countries, Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand took part with Myanmar as observer. Philippines emerged as the Overall Champion and took away the Lela Pahlawan Trophy. Malaysia was the defending Champion. Congratulations FPASGI.
The Opening Ceremony was spectacular with bag-pipes by the Police Bag Pipe Team, and placards and the 6 trophies carried by beautiful ladies from Ministry of Tourism.
The welcoming of delegates were traditional with Kompang and Bunga Manggar. Both the President of SGSM, Dato’ Mohd Aini and Vice President, Datuk Wira Khamis were welcoming the delegates supported by Council Members. The delegates start arriving at 10:30am and all through the day, the last delegates arrived just after 6:00pm. A very long day for the welcoming committee.
The three day event was running smoothly until just before 1:00pm on final day where a sudden tropical downpour stopped the Tournament, short of 3 holes to complete. The game resumed at 3:30pm and completed by 4:30pm. Of course there was a delay in finalising the result but all in all managed to be ready for Prize Giving. Generous sponsors from The Menteri Besar of Selangor Office and Ministry of Tourism helped a lot in getting the event in gear.
The Organising Committee headed by Dato Mohd Aini, ensure that the event is with no major hiccups. It was like a clockwork with the support from Volunteers, the staff of Glenmarie Golf & County Club and the staff of Holiday Inn.
