“THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH” (John 14:16-17; 15:26; 16:13)
I. THE HOLY SPIRIT GAVE US THE COMMUNICA-
TOR OF TRUTH. HE SPEAKS TRUTH.
II. THE HOLY SPIRIT WILL HELP US TO SPEAK
THE TRUTH.
III. THE HOLY SPIRIT WILL EQUIP YOU TO DE-TECT ERROR.
“ALIEN LIFE ON PLANET EARTH” (1 Peter 1:1, 2:11)
What would an alien look like? How would an alien act? What would an alien eat? How would an alien talk? Hollywood has had a field day when it comes to alien movies or shows:
My Favorite Martian
Superman
E.T.
Alf
Hollywood has painted a picture for us that alien life would be different from life here on earth. Peter says, you aliens are to be different:
OUR LIFESTYLE SHOULD BE DIFFERENT.
When aliens from another country come to America, we notice that they are different. They look different, talk different, eat different.
Peter says you aliments should live different.
If you are going to call God your Father, then live like it (1 Peter 1:14-17).
Our lives should be different from the world around us (1 Peter 2:12).
We should be law abiding (1 Peter 2:13-14).
Our marriages should be different (1 Peter 3:1-7).
The world will malign you for the way you live (1 Peter 4:3-4).
OUR SPEECH SHOULD BE DIFFERENT.
Our speech should be different from the world around us.
Our speech should be characterized by praise (1 Peter 2:9).
Our speech should be characterized by prayer (1 Peter 3:12).
Our speech should be characterized by proclaiming the oracles of God (1 Peter 4:11).
OUR DIET SHOULD BE DIFFERENT.
We feed on the word of God (1 Peter 2:2).
The word of God is the source of the new birth, and it continues to feed our souls (1 Peter 1:22-25). Only God’s word will sustain us spiritually. Some Christians are weak and dying because they are not feeding on the word of God.
Are we living as aliens on planet earth?
Our first and primary citizenship is in heaven, not the United States. Our first and primary constitution is the Bible, not the U.S. Constitution. Our first and primary King and Commander in Chief is Jesus Christ, not President Trump, and the dominant cravings of our heart are not for the world but for the king-dom of God.
