Parish Weekend a Source of Great Fun and Fellowship

A photo of the annual hike up the moun-tain. The hike is a staple for many of the folks after breakfast on Saturday morning dur-ing the annual parish week-end at the Cathedral Domain.

A typical scene before or after any meal on the porch of the dinning hall at The Domain. It’s a nice place to visit with one another and enjoy a cool breeze on a warm August day. Part of the cost for the parish weekend includes all meals from dinner on Friday evening to lunch on Sunday. Going On’s Around St. Andrew’s

Music Director: We welcome Ms. Hyejung Jun as our Music Director on Sunday August 19th. Hyejung comes to us from Atlanta, where she completed her Masters Degree in Chorale conducting at Emery University. She has extensive experience as a choir director and vocalist, and most recently has been part of the music program at the Episcopal Cathedral of St. Philip in Atlanta. In addition to directing our Music Ministry, she is pursuing her Doctorate in Conducting at the music conservatory at UC.

Organist: We have enjoyed Ms. Alice Edwards, our Interim Organist. She has agreed to stay with us until we select our new organist. We owe each of the members of the committee: Keith Hahn, Nancy Pogue, Jennifer Davidson, and Betsi Brockmeier, under the leadership of Fr. Jeff, our appreciation for their hard work. With the addition of our new Music Director, the committee are interviewing candidates in early August with hopes of hiring our next organist before the end of the month. Church on the Lawn: June “Church on the Lawn” events were well-received. We averaged 25 to 30 people attending. We will be considering it again next year. Membership Development Commission: The Membership Development Committee is upgrading all members nametags. A spreadsheet will be available in the Narthex for your review. Please verify how you want your name shown on the new nametag. The committee would like this to be done by the end of August. Our capability to stream videos, with archiving, is now available. If you miss a Sunday morning service, or are out of town, you can watch the Sunday Liturgy online through our Parish website, “standrewsfortthomas.org”. Click the “Live Stream” button on the right-hand tool bar of the page and then select the broadcast you wish to watch. Along with Sunday Services, baptisms, weddings and other special events will be streamed as well.

St. Cecelia Carving: We are still accepting specially desig-nated contributions for the wood carving of St. Cecelia, the patron saint of church music. The statue will commemo-rate the decades of service given by Diane Keeler and Mar-tha Renner to our Music Ministry. The statue has been commissioned and is being carved by an artisan in Batesville, IN. On the right is a artist rendering of the carv-ing. Its addition to our church will provide a permanent honor for those after us of the wonderful, spirit-driven work of these two ladies.

Ministry Fair: Beginning this year, in lieu of a minis-try fair, presentations will be given once a month about our various ministries during Sunday services. Information about each ministry will be available in the narthex before and after each service.

Family Promise Update Thank you to those who volunteered for the Au-gust Family Promise rotation. There are three families currently being assisted by Family Promise. Our next rotation is Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at the Presbyterian Church. Van drivers, dinner and overnight hosts, and food preparers will be needed. For more information contact Charlene Rasche at 513-304-6510 or send an email message to “[email protected]”.

Discernment Cmte. Seeks Input At its annual leadership retreat, the Vestry of St. Andrew’s decided to employ the Episcopal Church Foundation as a consultant to work with the congregation in developing and implementing a capital campaign to address needs of our building and how it relates to the ministry that takes place here. One of the initial steps is to assess where the congregation is spiritually and what priorities the church has for its ministries. The Discernment Committee met during the summer to try and answer these questions, and now would like your input with the following:

#1 What brought you to St. Andrew’s Church? What keeps you here? What do you treasure most about St. Andrew’s? #2 When you think about our buildings and grounds, what investments would help insure a strong future of worship and serving God in this place? #3 Describe some of the gifts that Episcopal/Anglican tradition offers to our local community? What is the most important thing we offer our neighbors?

Forms are available at Church or online at our website. The committee will also host a gathering on Wednesday, August 29th at 6pm, to hear from you face to face.
