We Want A King! 1 Samuel 8

This term we’re going to hear about the kings in the Bible. And we’re going to begin in the book called 1 Samuel. Every time I say, “We want a king!” I want to say, “We want a king!” (practise with children) God had saved his people, the Israelites. (slaves in Egypt) He’d rescued them from Egypt, (walking through the sea) brought them safely through the desert, (walking through desert) and given them a special land to live in. (land) It was God who had rescued them. God was their King. (crown) Now God had made a man named Samuel ruler over his people. But one day the people came to Samuel and began to grumble. They said, ‘Samuel, you’re old. One day you will die. Everyone else has a king. We want to be like everyone else. Give us a king to rule us.’ Samuel was not pleased. The people did not want to listen to Samuel any more. But God said to Samuel, ‘It’s not you they’re rejecting. They’re rejecting me. (tear up the crown, or put the crown behind you) They want a king like everyone else. But warn them first. Tell them what a king will force them to do.’ Samuel went back to the people and said, ‘If you get a king then you’ll have to become soldiers in his army.’ (sword) But the people cried out, ‘We want a king!’ (children repeat) ‘If you get a king then you’ll have to work on his farms.’ (shovel) But the people cried out, ‘We want a king!’ (children repeat) ‘If you get a king then you’ll have to cook his food.’ (food) But the people cried out, ‘We want a king!’ (children repeat) ‘If you get a king then you’ll have to give him your grapes and corn.’ (fruit) But the people cried out, ‘We want a king!’ (children repeat) If you get a king then you’ll become his servants.’ (serving tray and towel) The people would not listen.

Again and again they cried out, ‘We want a king!’ (children repeat) ‘We want a king!’ (children repeat) They wanted to be like everyone else. Everyone else who had a king to lead them. In the end, God said to Samuel, ‘Give the people what they want. Give them a king.’ All the people went home and waited for God to give them a king. Conclusion: The people of Israel rejected God as their King. They wanted a king they could see and bow down to. They wanted to be like everyone else around them. What a big mistake! Children, Jesus is God’s King of kings. Don’t make the mistake of rejecting him. Choose Jesus. He is the King we are to love and trust.

• Dress ups - provide king and queen dress up clothes. Talk to the children about what a good king would be like. And how Jesus is our perfect King.

• Farm animals (need donkeys, sheep, cows) - encourage

children to set up the animals and group together (sheep, cows, donkeys…). Tell them that in today’s story, a man goes looking for some lost donkeys and becomes a king. Also, how this man lied and said he didn’t take the sheep and cows, when in fact he did.

to hide. - All children close their eyes and count to 20. - Then they have to find Saul. - When they do, bring him back and crown him. - Repeat, choosing a different child to be Saul.

Conclusion:

- In today’s story God gives the people what they’d asked for, a king.

- A king like everyone else had. - But the king they wanted was not great. - He looked good on the outside, but he did not love and obey

God. - He was a bad king. - Jesus is the only good and perfect King. - We must follow him.

The Disobedient King 1 Samuel 9-15

Last week we heard how the people of Israel asked God for a king. God warned them what a king would do. But still they asked for a king. Today we’re going to hear about Israel’s first king. God spoke to a man named Samuel. (Samuel) And then Samuel told the people what God had said. Samuel was the leader of God’s people. God told Samuel he’d meet a man. And that very day, Samuel met a man named Saul. (Saul) Saul was looking for some donkeys he’d lost. (Place donkeys off in the distance) God told Samuel that Saul would be king. Samuel said to Saul, “God has chosen you to be king. Don’t worry, the donkeys you had lost have been found. Now go home and wait.” And Saul did just that. (Remove Saul and donkeys) Seven days later, Samuel gathered all the people together. Samuel called for Saul. “Saul!” But Saul did not come. God told Samuel he was hiding amongst the bags. (Place Saul behind some sacks) And that’s where they found Saul their king - hiding. But when the people saw how tall and handsome Saul was they shouted, ‘Long live the king!’ Saul looked like he’d be the perfect king. But sadly he wasn’t. (Remove Samuel and sacks, add soldiers) One day their enemy came out to fight against them. Saul’s men began to run away. (Soldiers turn and run) Saul got scared. (Make Saul shake in fear) He would not wait for Samuel. Saul did what God had told Samuel only he could do. Saul offered God special gifts. (Saul bows as if praying) Saul disobeyed God. Saul failed to trust God

Page 18: THE STORY OF THE KINGS - Northmead Anglican Churchnac.asn.au/wp/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/ps_year2term2unit.pdf · The Story Of The Kings) on first single page of the scrapbook

Still Saul did not learn. Again, their enemy came out to fight against them. (Make Saul shake in fear) Now God had told Saul he’d win, but he was not to keep anything he won for himself. Saul won - just like God said! (Soldiers jump for joy up and down). But then Saul disobeyed God. He kept the best sheep and cows for himself. (Place cows/sheep behind Saul) Then he lied. He said he hadn’t kept anything. But the sheep and cows were making such a noise, everyone heard them. (Make appropriate animal noises) Then he blamed his men. (Place cows/sheep behind soldiers) They were the ones, not him, who’d kept them. Saul failed to be God’s obedient king. Conclusion: Saul looked like he’d make a great king. But he got scared. He failed to trust and obey God. Children, Jesus trusts and obeys God completely. He is God’s good and perfect King. He is the King we are to follow.

A King After God’s Own Heart 1 Samuel 16

Main Point - What people look like is not important to God. But what their hearts are like is. Introductory Activities

• Dress ups - provide king and queen dress up clothes. Have children look at themselves in a child safe mirror. Talk about what they can see and what they can’t see. They can see what they look like, but can’t see what their hearts are like. But God knows. He knows if our hearts are beautiful - full of love and trust, or if our hearts are ugly - full of hate and disobedience.

• Sheep craft - purchase the file titled, Preschool Year 2 Term

2 Stencils (available in the Kidswise Shop). Find the stencil of the double sided sheep. Copy and cut one per child on cardboard. Use cotton wool to decorate sheep. Fold and stand upright.

• Animals (sheep, lions, bears), foam blocks and figurines.

Encourage children to set up David protecting his sheep on the hills (made from foam blocks), from the lions and the bears. Tell them that in today’s story a young boy named David was chosen by God to be the new king. David loved and trusted God, unlike King Saul.

• Dress ups - encourage children to dress up as sheep, lions

and bears. Talk about how lions and bears attack sheep and how sheep need to be protected. Today we’ll hear all about David whose job it was to protect the sheep. And one day he’d grow up and he’d protect God’s people, the people of Israel.

What’s On The Inside? Warning: knife is to be out of reach of children at all times and only used by a leader.

Need: - Apple, orange, banana… any fruit in season (note: it would

be good to have at least one piece of fruit that is bad on the inside)

- Knife - Chopping board

Activity: - Ask: This apple looks good on the outside. How will I know if

it’s good to eat? It may be rotten or have a grub in it? How will I know?

- Accept answers (bite into it, cut it in half, smell it…) - Cut the apple in half to see. - Repeat with other fruit

Conclusion: - We can’t tell unless we cut the fruit open. - But God doesn’t have to cut an apple in half to see if it’s

good on the inside. - God knows what the inside is like. - Just as he knows what our hearts are like. - We can see what we’re like on the outside, but we don’t

really know what each other’s hearts are like. - But God does. - He knows us inside and out.

When Samuel saw Jesse’s eldest son what did he think? (he looked like he’d make a good leader)

- What about the next son? And the next? And the next? (God said ‘No’ to all of them)

- Remember Saul from last week? Did he look like he’d make a good king? (yes, Saul looked like he’d make a good leader, he was tall and handsome, but he failed to trust and obey God)

- The youngest son, David, was missing. What was he doing? (protecting the sheep from lions and bears)

- Whom did God chose to be the king?

(David, the youngest) Conclusion: - God knows our hearts. - And our hearts matter to God. - God chose David because he trusted and obeyed him. - God is not concerned about what you look like or what you

can do. - He is concerned about your heart. - A beautiful heart loves and trusts God.

A King After God’s Own Heart 1 Samuel 16

Be sure to revise the memory verse before you do today’s story. King Saul looked like he’d make a good king. (Hold up crown) He was tall and he was handsome. (Hold crown up high) But Saul failed to trust and obey God. (Shake head) So God told Samuel to choose a new king. (Put crown down, put on Bible Times head-dress, as if you are Samuel) A king who would trust and obey him. A king who would show the people how to trust and obey God. Samuel was afraid that Saul would find out that he was looking for God’s new king. (Act afraid) But even though he was afraid Samuel obeyed God. Samuel did what God told him to do. He went to the house of Jesse. (March on the spot) Jesse had eight sons and he brought them out so that Samuel could see them. Samuel saw Eliab, the eldest son. (Invite a child to come up) Eliab was tall and handsome. (Indicate how tall the child is) Samuel thought to himself, ‘This must be the one God has chosen. He is the eldest and he looks like a king. He is both tall and handsome.’ But God told Samuel, “People look at the outward appearance but God looks on the heart. Boom boom.” (Do the actions of memory verse as you say this) Jesse brought a second son in front of Samuel, but again God said ‘No’. (Invite another child to come up) “People look at the outward appearance but God looks on the heart. Boom boom.” (Do the actions of memory verse as you say this) Jesse brought a third son in front of Samuel, but again God said ‘No’. (Invite another child to come up) “People look at the outward appearance but God looks on the heart. Boom boom.” (Do the actions of memory verse as you say this) Jesse brought a fourth son in front of Samuel, but again God said ‘No’. (Invite another child to come up)

“People look at the outward appearance but God looks on the heart. Boom boom.” (Do the actions of memory verse as you say this) Jesse brought a fifth son in front of Samuel, but again God said ‘No’. (Invite another child to come up) “People look at the outward appearance but God looks on the heart. Boom boom.” (Do the actions of memory verse as you say this) Jesse brought a sixth son in front of Samuel, but again God said ‘No’. (Invite another child to come up) “People look at the outward appearance but God looks on the heart. Boom boom.” (Do the actions of memory verse as you say this) Jesse brought a seventh son in front of Samuel, but again God said ‘No’. (Invite another child to come up) “People look at the outward appearance but God looks on the heart. Boom boom.” (Do the actions of memory verse as you say this) (pause) Samuel asked, ‘Are these all your sons?’ Jesse then called for his youngest son, David to come. (Invite another child to come up) David had been out in the field taking care of the sheep. His job was to protect the sheep from the lions and the bears. David loved and trusted God. As soon as Samuel saw David God said, “He is the one! He will be king of my people.” Because… “People look at the outward appearance but God looks on the heart. Boom boom.” (Do the actions of memory verse as you say this) Conclusion: Remember what God said to Samuel? “People look at the outward appearance but God looks on the heart. Boom boom.” (Do the actions of memory verse as you say this) We can see what people look like but God sees what people are really like. God sees our hearts. And our hearts matter to God. David loved and trusted God. David obeyed God.

A King Who Plays By God’s Rules 1 Samuel 18-31

Main Point - God’s king trusts him and does not hit back, even when others try to hurt him.

Introductory Activities

• Playdough - purchase commercial child safe dough or make

homemade playdough. Make a jug out of playdough.

• Stepping stone road - set up play safe stepping stones (e.g. WePlay -Tactile Reception Series) for children to walk along a road. Include tunnels or foam arches to crawl through for caves. Note: can substitute with plastic chairs and home made felt stepping stones. Talk about how King Saul chased David because he didn’t want David to be king.

• Cave - place dark material over two tables to create a cave.

Provide Bible Times costumes for children to dress up as and pretend to be David hiding inside the cave.

• Sandpit - provide a sandpit for children to create the cities,

road and cave which David used trying to escape King Saul who was chasing him.

Game: Keeper Of The Jug Need:

- Chair - Blindfold

Instructions:

- Seat children in a circle. - Select one child to sit on the chair blindfolded as King Saul.

- Place jug under the chair. - Select a child in the circle to be David, who creeps up to King

Saul and tries to get the jug, take it back to where he/she is sitting without King Saul’s detecting him/her (i.e. pointing at him/her).

- Note: King Saul can’t point unless he/she hears something. - If the child gets the jug back without being detected he/she

becomes the next King Saul. Conclusion:

- In today’s story, King Saul did not want David to become king.

- He wanted to be the king! - Saul tried to hurt David again and again and again. - One day David took Saul’s jug and sword. - He could’ve hurt Saul. - So even though Saul hurt David, David would not hurt Saul.

A King Who Plays By God’s Rules 1 Samuel 18-31

Ask the children to help in the retelling of this story by making walking, running and creeping sound effects (i.e. slap one hand on one leg then other hand on the other leg - slowly for walking, fast for running and softly for creeping). Last week we heard how God told Samuel to go to Jesse’s house. Seven of Jesse’s son stood before Samuel. (Hold up seven fingers) But God did not choose any of them to be king. Because… (Do actions of the memory verse and encourage children to join in and say together...) people look at the outward appearance but God looks at the heart (Boom, boom). Finally, Jesse’s youngest son David came. And God said ‘Yes!’ (Thumbs up) David would be God’s king of his people, the Israelites. (Pause) There was one problem - Saul was still the king! (Picture 1) But, Saul had failed to trust God. God was not with Saul any more. David trusted God. (Thumbs up) God was with David. And so when David fought the giant Goliath… (Picture 2) God was with David. And David won. (Thumbs up) All the people loved him! (Cheer) When King Saul sent David out to fight their enemies… (Picture 3) God was with David. David won again and again and again! (Thumbs up three times) All the people loved him even more! (Cheer) This made King Saul jealous. (Picture 4) He got angrier and angrier and angrier! (Angrier and angrier) King Saul tried to hurt David. (Picture 5) But God was with David. David ran away. (Hands tap on legs running)

King Saul and his men chased David. (Hands tap on legs running) They chased him up the hills and down the hills. They even chased him into the caves. (Picture 6) But God was with David. King Saul and his men could not catch David. One night King Saul and his men were asleep. God was with David. David crept up to King Saul. (Soft hands tap on legs creeping) He was asleep. And even though Saul was trying to hurt David, David would not hurt King Saul. Instead David took King Saul's spear and water jug. (Picture 7) The next morning King Saul woke up. His spear and water jug were gone! King Saul heard David calling. David held up King Saul’s spear and water jug. (Hold up high the picture of spear and water jug) Saul knew David could’ve hurt him, but David had not. King Saul hung his head and went home. Not long after this King Saul died. David was sad to hear that he had died. It was now time for David to become king. (Picture 8) Conclusion: King Saul failed to trust and obey God. So God rejected him as king. But David was different. David trusted God. He did not hit back, even when Saul tried to hurt him. Jesus is God’s King of kings. He perfectly trusts and obeys God the Father. Jesus never hit back, even when people were trying to hurt him. Jesus is our perfect King!

David won battles and captured the city of Jerusalem. (Picture 2: David defeating enemies) David was a powerful king. David built himself a beautiful palace to live in. (Picture 3: David in front of palace) David knew it was God who’d made him king. It was God who’d given him everything. One day David decided to build God a special building. (Picture 4: David thinking of temple) David told Nathan, God’s prophet, what he planned to do. Nathan thought David’s plan sounded good. But that night, God came to Nathan and said, “David was a shepherd boy. (Picture 5: David as a shepherd boy) I was the one who took David from caring for sheep to become the ruler of my people. I was the one who gave him victory over his enemies. (Picture 2 again: David defeating enemies) I made David famous. I was the one who gave him peace. I did all this for my servant David. Do I now need David, my servant, to do something for me? (Picture 6: David thinking of temple with question mark on temple) Do I need him to build me a house? Instead this is what I will do for him. I will make his house go on forever. (Picture 7: crown with tick on it) One day David will die. But one day a King will come from his house, from his family. And that King will rule forever. This is what I will do for David.” And David praised God. Conclusion: God promised David that from his family would come a King. A King who never stops being King ever.

A Compassionate King 2 Samuel 4:4, 9

Soft Toy Story - script by Sandy Galea. Main Point - King David was kind to his enemy. King Jesus is kind to us, even when we were his enemies. Need:

! Storyteller ! Props:

- Two large soft toy people (Rigadoon dolls work well) or larger people puppets for David and Mephibosheth - Foam blocks for the palace

Script Actions

Build a castle on one side of the stage.

One day King David was looking out of his palace.

Reveal King David.

And David was sad. Drop David’s head down.

Not only had King Saul died, but King Saul’s son Jonathan had died as well.

Jonathan had been King David’s best friend.

David remembered how Jonathan promised to love him always.

David’s head up, nodding.

And not only David, but David’s children and David’s grandchildren.

David nods.

In fact, everyone in David’s family.

David had promised the same back to Jonathan.

Move David’s hand to his heart.

Even though Jonathan’s father, King Saul had treated David as

Page 46: THE STORY OF THE KINGS - Northmead Anglican Churchnac.asn.au/wp/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/ps_year2term2unit.pdf · The Story Of The Kings) on first single page of the scrapbook

an enemy, David remembered his promise to Jonathan.

So David asked,

“Is there anyone left in Saul’s family whom I can be kind to?”

Move David’s head as if he’s saying these words.

Now Jonathan had had a son. Reveal Mephibosheth.

The boy’s name was Mephibosheth.

When he was just five years old, his father Jonathan and grandfather Saul had died.

When the nurse who was caring for Mephibosheth heard the news, she picked him up and ran.

Carry him - bouncing him up and down (as if being carried by someone running).

But as she ran, she fell. Drop Mephibosheth.

And both of Mephibosheth’s feet were hurt.

Pick Mephibosheth up but let his legs flop.

So hurt that he could never walk properly again.

When David heard about Mephibosheth, he sent for him.

Move Mephibosheth towards David and bring David down from his palace.

Mephibosheth came before the king and bowed.

Make Mephibosheth bow and tremble slightly.

David said, “Do not be afraid. I will be kind to you because of your father Jonathan. I will give you back all the land that belonged to your grandfather Saul. And you will stay with me in my palace and always eat at my table.”

Move David’s head as if he’s saying these words.

So Mephibosheth lived in David’s palace.

Move Mephibosheth and David into the palace.

And Mephibosheth ate at Sit them down as if eating.

David’s table.

He became like a son to David.

(Narrator moves to centre stage and addresses the audience)

Mephibosheth’s grandfather had treated King David as his enemy.

Mephibosheth was young.

He had no family to care for or to protect him.

He had no place of his own.

Mephibosheth knew he didn’t deserve to be treated well by King David.

But King David chose to be kind to Mephibosheth.

The Bible says we have all treated God like an enemy.

We have not loved him the way we should have.

But God’s King, Jesus, is kind to us.

King Jesus died for us while we were his enemy.

King Jesus died for us so we could become God’s friend.

God’s Wise King 1 Kings 7-11

David was a good king but he wasn’t perfect. Not like Jesus. David lived a long time but he wasn’t king forever. Not like Jesus. When David died, his son Solomon became king. (Reveal Solomon) One day God said to Solomon, “Ask me for whatever you want.” Wow! Solomon could choose anything. Anything at all! Solomon could choose to be rich. (Run hand through a pile of gold coins) To be the richest person in all the world. Solomon could choose to be famous. (Reveal poster of King Solomon) Everyone would know his name! Solomon could choose to be powerful. (Place soldiers surrounding Solomon) To have all his enemies fall at his feet! (Soldiers fall over) Solomon could choose to live a long, long life. To see his children, his grandchildren, even his great grandchildren grow up. (Add children around Solomon) But Solomon did not ask for any of these. He did not ask to be rich. (Remove money) He did not ask to be famous. (Remove poster) He did not ask to be powerful. (Remove soldiers) He did not even ask to live a long life. (Remove children) Instead Solomon asked God to make him wise. Solomon wanted to know right from wrong. He wanted to do what was right before God. He wanted God’s people to do the same. And God was pleased. Solomon had chosen the best thing. God was pleased with Solomon. So God made Solomon wise. Very, very wise! Solomon wrote many wise sayings and lots and lots of songs. (Add a scroll) People all over the world heard how wise Solomon was. (Add figurines from different countries)

So people from all over the world came and asked Solomon for help. Even kings and queens from far away came to ask for Solomon’s help. (Pause) Then God gave Solomon what he had not asked for. God made Solomon rich - he became the richest man in all the world. (Add gold coins) God made Solomon famous - everyone knew who Solomon was. (Add poster) God made Solomon powerful - all his enemies were defeated. (Add soldiers) And finally, Solomon lived a long, long time. (Add children) Conclusion: Solomon asked God to make him wise. And God made Solomon wise. Solomon was indeed very wise. People from all over the world came to Solomon to ask for help. But Solomon was not wise all his life. As he got older, he made some bad choices. Solomon was God’s wise king but he wasn’t wise all his life. Not like Jesus. King Jesus is God’s truly wise King who always knows what’s right and does it. And that’s why we follow King Jesus!

- Reheboam was not sure what to do. So he went and asked

for help. Who did he ask first? What did they say? (the old men, they told him to be kind to the people and take less money)

- Who did he then ask for help? What did they say?

(the young men, they told him to be harder and take even

The King That Takes And Takes 1 Kings 11-12

God made King Solomon wise. (Picture: Solomon) But Solomon was not wise all his life. Solomon bowed down and prayed to pretend gods. (Picture: add idol) He even had special buildings built for them. (Picture: add building) And because Solomon did this, God’s people did it too. (Picture: add people bowing) This made God angry. His people loved pretend gods instead of him! (Remove all pictures) So God said that one day he’d separate Solomon’s kingdom. (Picture: two kingdoms, two crowns) Instead of one kingdom, there would be two. And instead of one king, there would now be two. Let’s hear what happened. (Put picture to one side) Rehoboam was Solomon’s son. (Prop: Reheboam) When Solomon died Reheboam became king. (Add crown to Reheboam) But Reheboam was not wise. Solomon had built building after building after building. (Add one… two… three foam blocks to indicate buildings) And Solomon had taken more and more and more money from the people to build them. (Add a few coins… then more gold coins… then more gold coins) The people were tired of giving Solomon their money. So when Solomon died, they begged Reheboam to stop taking their money. Reheboam said he’d think about it. Reheboam went and asked the old men what he should do. (Move Reheboam to one side, add old man figure) The old men told Reheboam, “Be kind to the people. Stop taking so much money from them. Then they will love to serve you as their king.” But Reheboam did not listen to the old men. Instead he went to the young men and asked them what to do. (Move Reheboam to the other side, add young man figure)

The young men said, “Solomon was a tough king. You need to be even tougher. Ask the people for even more money.” So Reheboam made life even harder for the people. (Move Reheboam back to middle) Reheboam demanded the people pay him even more than they paid King Solomon! (Add even more gold coins to the pile) So the people turned against him. And the kingdom was torn in two. (Hold up picture of two kingdoms/two kings and tear the picture in half) Instead of one kingdom, there were now two. And instead of one king, there were now two. Just like God had said. Conclusion: King Solomon took money from the people. And then when Solomon’s son, Reheboam, became king, he took even more! But there is a King who is different. A King who gives to God’s people. A kind and generous King. And this King’s name is Jesus. Jesus pays for us. He pays for all of our sin. He did this when he died on the cross. That’s why we love and follow King Jesus.

The Boy King 2 Kings 22-23

God made Solomon king. But Solomon turned away from God and began following pretend gods. (Reveal idol) He even had special buildings built for them. (Use foam blocks and make a building) And special things to go inside these buildings. (Add candlestick) And because Solomon did this, God’s people did it too. God was very angry. But Solomon was not the only king who did this. King after king after king did what Solomon had done. But every now and again a king would come along who loved God. Let’s hear about a boy who became a king who loved God. Josiah was only 8 years old when he became king of God’s people. (Reveal dough figure of Josiah, place crown on his head) Now Solomon had built God a special building called the temple. (Make a temple from foam blocks) The temple where God’s people prayed to God. But Solomon had died a long, long time ago. And God’s special building was falling down. (Make temple look as if it’s leaning to one side) So Josiah set some men to work. He wanted the temple to be fixed. So the carpenters and the stonecutters and the builders set to work. (Make temple stand up again) While they were working, some men found something very special. (Hide scroll in hand and make it look as if you’ve pulled it out from inside temple) It was a scroll with God’s words written on it. The men took the scroll to King Josiah. (Carefully unroll scroll) The words were read out to the king. When King Josiah heard what God had said he was very upset. Josiah realised he was not obeying God. The people were not obeying God either. And God was very angry with them! So Josiah called for all the people to come together and hear God’s words. (Add crowd of people around Josiah) And all the people came and heard what God had said. Together they promised to follow God and him alone.

Then Josiah set to work. He had to get rid of the pretend gods the people had been following. So he pulled down the buildings built to the pretend gods. (Pull down idol’s temple piece by piece) He tore apart the special candles made for the pretend gods. (Pull candlestick apart) He smashed up the statues of the pretend gods. (Squash idol) He did this until nothing was left. Josiah found God’s word. Josiah heard God’s word. And Josiah obeyed God’s word. He burnt up, pulled down and smashed up everything belonging to the pretend gods. Josiah turned and followed the one true God. And he helped his people do the same.
