Beyond the Blak – Tik’n all boxes’2 May–8 Junecurated by Kimba Thompson from Blak dot gallery

The works in this landmark exhibition are refreshing, challenging and touch on ideas of the ‘other’. The curator provokes with the questions, ‘Have the boxes been ticked? The box of being an Artist and that of being Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander?’ As a result, the artists in this exhibition do not align with the ‘western construct’ of what constitutes the ‘Aboriginal Artist’.

‘Imbued with a synthesis of Western art-theory and the deep listening of an Indigenous knowing’. Kimba Thompson, Curator.
