For the past 12 months the Te Atatu Memorial RSA has had another good year.Wehaveastrongfinancialbase and continue to upgrade the facilitieswithnewfixedassetsbeingpurchased.

We need your support to continue to survive.OurmaineventfortheyearisalwaysAnzacDay.Thisyearit was thrown into complete turmoil two weeks before the event as a result of the tragic events in Christchurch. At the direction of the New Zealand Police all Auckland RSA’s were told to cancel all public events and cancel planned marches as they were unable to ensure the safety of the public which was paramount.A dispensation was given to all RSA’s to have a service in their own club rooms for members only. This stopped 1200 members of the public from attending our normal service anddeprived17localgroupsincludingourcadetunitfrommarching with our veterans. The reduced service in our club was well received by all who attended. Full facilities were open to the public after 1 p.m. to join in with the commemo-rations. Hopefully all will return to normal next year.On the National RSA front there have been several changes instaffandpersonnel.Theboardhasnowbeeninplacefor4 years and there appears to be a complete lack of commu-nicationwiththeboardthepresident’sforumHQstaffandallofusatthecoalface.Duringtheyearseveralstaffresignedalong with the chairman of the board and the CEO of RNZ-RSA. These challenges are being worked through and hope-fully the outcome will be positive for all. We all need to look to the -future not live in the past and make changes accordingly which adjust with the times

Te Atatu RSA has now been a member of the Ranfurly Poppy trust of Auckland for 18 months. All money collected on Poppy day is forwarded to the trust. While the trust supports our veterans with healthcare all our non-returned or service members receive support from Ian Henry and his dedicated team of helpers. Ian thank you for your total commitment while struggling at times with your own health challenges.Major renovations on our building were carried out 20 years ago. The women’s section is a major asset to our overall organisation. Well done ladies.Thesportssectionsplayamajorroleinthefinancialsuccessof our Club. With home competitions and inviting outside groups into the club not only increases revenue but also en-genders camaraderie. I thank all the members who work hard behind the scenes in the sports sections for your support to make these events happen. To Stephen and his team behind the bar your valuable con-tribution does not go unnoticed. Thank you for your support overthepast12months.Totheoutgoingcommittee,thankyou for your support making our Club a better place. I look forward to the next 12 months and all its challenges.

Asourcurrentseasoncontinues,‘TopDog’beingnextontheagenda, wecanlook forward to some fairly intense rivalry across the table. This year’s results so far are available on our notice board.Onceagain,Ithankallplayersandorganisers for keeping Te Atatu RSA SnookerSectionsucharelaxing, friendlyand welcoming group despite the competitive nature of the game. Good luck to all as this 2019 season reaches its climax. Our Wednesday afternoon and Monday evening sessions continue to attract new players from both within and outside our own RSA. It is an excellent way of meeting new people; a couple of dollars entry fee will bring you more than a couple of hours entertainment.Bob Wood (Chairman)
