Balinese people celebrate their dead and their living just the same. From the moment a human being formed inside

the womb, to the day they passed away, Balinese held numerous ceremonies to cherish the life of their kin, as a part of bigger ceremony called ‘manusa yadnya’ . One of

those ceremonies is Tutug Kambuhan.

Held after a baby enters his 42 days of life, Tutug Kambuhan is a cleansing ritual to remove the baby and his/her mother

from all impurities, physically and spiritually. This ritual is mandatory to be done by Balinese Hindu as it will allows the

baby to enter the and pray in sacred area of Pura (Balinese temple).

This ritual is commenced in the house of the baby’s family and done in three different locations; the kitchen, bathroom and sanggah (shrine). The procession of Tutug Kambuhan is conducted by a pedanda (holy priest), delivering prayers and

offering for the deities to protect the baby for the rest of his/her life, away from any harm and danger.

Stretches for about 5km along an east-facing coastline, with the

lush and green landscaped grounds fronting right onto the sandy beach, Sanur features a relaxed coastal ambience perfect for a moment of getaway. Due to its strategic location between the vibrant Southern Bali and nature-bound Northern side of Ubud and beyond, it is a perfect

starting point for those who wish to explore all the other tourism destinations around the island.

Peaceful coastline becomes main attractions of Sanur, and somehow it successfully maintains the atmosphere of serenity even though it is often packed with both local and international tourists. The beaches are thin and

protected by the reef and breakwaters, making them really swimmable and good spot for family vacation. There are several magnificent beaches around Sanur, with the most well-known being Mertasari beach and Matahari Terbit beach. The first one, Mertasari, is considered as one of the most beautiful

beaches in Bali, with white sandy beach, waveless sea, and pavilions built on a rocky path which leads to the sea. These pavilions are the signature of Sanur beaches rarely seen in other shorelines across the island, and a great place to get soaked in the breezy seaside atmosphere.

One of the most favorite activities in Sanur is cycling, so don’t be surprised to see bikes strolling across the same narrow path beside the beach used by the pedestrians. Don’t worry, as most of them drive safely, just be ready to sway aside when you hear a bell chime from passing bikes.

The second most famous beach, Matahari Terbit, is a place where you can get a perfect vista of the sun rises beyond the horizon. Come early in the morning and witness the beauty of glimmering sunray behind the clouds, gradually rising to reveal a golden-esque tone that permeates the blue sky. The name of the beach is

literally means ‘sunrise’ and it surely speaks for itself. Both in its characteristic and nuance, Sanur is a stark different from its ‘big brother’, Kuta beach. Despite the abundance of restaurants and accommodation, there is a tangible element of tranquility in its atmosphere, thus making it a perfect destination to enjoy the vintage feels of Bali.

Nyaman Gallery aims to highlight the welcoming backdrop of Bali and the ease in which their guest can interact and enjoy contemporary art. It presents a fine assemblage of artworks, ranging from street art-inspired paintings, urban photography and exotic sculptures to enchanting glass works and homemade Balinese jewelries and sculpture, as well as consultations in scenography and interior design.

Art can be found in every little detail and is accessible to all. With that understanding, Nyaman Gallery wants their guest to feel at ease and in touch with the diversity of Indonesian and International art masterpieces, as well as sustaining exclusive, long term relationship with the featured artists themselves.

in Indonesian language and it defines the ultimate philosophy of Nyaman Gallery. The gallery actually operates under Nyaman Group, a luxury travel and concierge service that operates several opulent villas and fashion boutiques located in the heart of Seminyak.

We know that Bali is not all about beaches and

festive nightlife. For a more close-to-nature experience, Ubud is always the place to go. Here, you can do plenty of healthy activities, from yoga to cycling. Yes, Ubud strategic location and topography makes it one of the best places to hop on your bike

and pedal away. One of the best spot to do so is at Campuhan hill. Located just behind the hotel bearing the same name, Campuhan hill-or ‘Bukit’ in bahasa, is actually a narrow stone track between the lush green scenery of grass, paddy field and forest, far away from the village’s center of living.

Ubud provides more than tranquility and scenic panorama to see. For fun activity during your retreat to the village of culture, you can go cycling on the beautiful Campuhan hill.

Just get prepared physically as you have to carry the bike all the way to reach the hill and back. Do not worry if you didn’t bring your personal bike you could find plenty of bicycle renting kiosks with relatively affordable per-day price in Ubud.

so many ancient sites it might as well become the center of archeological research in the island. Couple of years ago, another site called Candi Tebing is discovered near Tegallinggah village which situated on the side of the river.

Basically, Candi Tebing is a sacred stone temple made to replicate the resting place of Hindu gods and goddesses. What makes this site unique is how it was carved in two sides of cliffs, facing each other and divided by the flow of Pakerisan River below. Candi Tebing is hidden from plain sight for such a long time.

The stone gate leading to the temple is actually known by the locals, but they never thought it would lead to this grand discovery, until a Dutch researcher named Krijsman decided to dig into the rest of the sites altogether. If you happen to visit the site, expect to meet some researchers there as they still working to study the remains and determine its origins.

History proofs the existence of Goa Garba since back in 12th century,

where the legendary king Jaya Pangus still rules the island. Nowadays, it becomes one of officially preserved ancient site in Bali, occasionally visited by tourist curious of its origin, and locals who wish to meditate and gain some sort of spiritual enlightenment.

"Tucked deep down a steep valley, Goa Garba is a sacred place once used by the might warrior Kebo Iwa as a solitary meditation spot."

Point of hermitaGe

Located at Pejeng village, Tampaksiring, Goa Garba is a small niche carved on the side of Pakerisan River, and can only be accessed through a hole on the top of stairs beyond an ancient stone gate. On your way to Goa Garba, you might notice a set of footprint. This believed to be the feet of Kebo Iwa, the mighty Balinese warrior, who’s said to be the first one to discover the spot and use it to meditate and gain spiritual power. The immense mystical aura of the place is amplified by the lush and calm surrounding nature, makes it one of the recommended place to visit for adventurer who wish their holiday away from glimmering city light and bustling atmosphere.

GEARS & PEDALS: BASIC TIPS FOR CYCLING

PREPARATIONThis mainly includes the physical preparation. Do some stretching right before you’re off pedaling to avoid muscle cramps ruining your pleasant session. Stop eating two hours beforehand and ensure you’re in overall healthy condition as

cycling, no matter the occasion, would requires energy and manual work of your whole body.

EquIPMENT CHECKAlways wear comfortable outfits. Sport shoes is recommended to prevent feet

injury and head protection gear as helmet is suggested, even though you only go for a convenient ride. Even the slightest accident can be fatal if you didn’t keep

your upper side well-covered.

SAFETY MEASuREThis goes mostly for the bike you’ll ride. Flat or leak tires could prove to be

dangerous, and at the very least, could ruin your whole plan. Bring along an air-pump if you could, so you can manual fix the tire from the lack of air pressure.
