Presidents Message
By Gale Haugen We have finally acquired the needed sanction numbers
for our Annual Corvette Blast scheduled for October
6th and 7th. NCCC rules for event flyers state that
sanction numbers must be on the event flyer prior to
submitting to West Coast Region Competition Director
to post on the NCCC calendar. When we borrow sanc-
tion numbers from another club we do not get the
points for that event but it does help by giving other
regional Corvette club points. This year we borrowed
one sanction number from Corvette Super Sports, two
from Pomona Valley Corvettes and one from Inland
Empire Corvettes. These three clubs have consistently
supported our annual event in the past so it seemed
only fitting to show our appreciation. Many of you
may ask why we need to borrow from other clubs so
let me explain.
Each NCCC club is granted 10 sanction numbers per
year. Hosting four autocross events this year took
eight of our numbers. Our annual event is a six sanc-
tioned event. Our past Governor, Charlie Perry, felt
strongly about the more points an attendee can earn
from a day event the more people we will attract. But,
there is another reason...Vapor Trail Vettes enjoys
putting on events and seeing our out of town Corvette
friends from other clubs. So get involved this year
and meet some great people. Note: I posted the WC
Region club standings on page three of this newsletter.
This is only a snapshot of the standings as of this date.
Hector and I are off to the NCCC National Convention
on Friday. We will spend some time before and after
convention in Nashville to check out the Grand Ole
Opry and a few other fun sites. Make sure you mark
your calendar for the 2018 NCCC National Convention
to be held in New Orleans. That one should be a blast.
If that is too far for your taste 2019 will be held in Col-
orado.
Until Next Month...Save the
Wave!

August VTV Meeting Minutes By Bev Erickson & Gale Haugen
The August General Meeting started at 6:30pm at the Las
Cazuelas Restaurant in Nipomo. Attendees included Mike
Williamson, Bruce Potter, Gerry White, Larry Wright, Gale
Haugen, Chuck Robertson, Bev & Cliff Erickson, Bill
Santmyer, Hector Paz, Doug Nicoll, Mike & Janet Glenn,
and Jeff & Holly Palmer and guest Ben.
Approval of June Meeting Minutes
A motion was made to approve the June meeting minutes
by Bill Santmyer and seconded by Gerry White. The
minutes were approved as written by all present.
Happy Birthday greetings were extended to Nathan Grif-
fin, Bruce Potter, Bee Jay Jones, and Cliff Erickson.
Old Business – Gale Haugen
Chuck Robertson reported that he has not heard from the
web designer. The question came up if she was already
paid or not. Hector was going to check the VTV account to
verify.
New Business – Gale Haugen
There will be an autocross prep meeting following this meeting. If you are helping out at the autocross we would
appreciate you staying for that meeting. Clay will keep it short.
We have had a problem with the VTV webpage over the
last few days. Gale called Yahoo, our hosting company,
and found that we were using an antiquated system that only had 5 gigs of space, which was filled. We were able to
upgrade to 500 gigs for $2 less per month.
We are short 4 sanction numbers for our annual event. Gale asked Bill to find a couple of clubs to borrow from.
We need these numbers before she can submit the flyer
for the West Coast Region Competition calendar.
Gale is looking for volunteers for the Annual Blast Event. Leads are needed for:
1. Registration/Check-in
2. Goodie Bags
3. Hospitality Room Food/Bar
4. Raffle/Auction
5. Games
6. Rallye Route/Gimmick questions or Funkhana
7. Awards

Treasurer’s Report – Hector Paz
Hector presented the finance report for June and July. De-
tails of the income and expenses were discussed. A motion
to approve the report was made by Bill Santmyer and se-
conded by Mike Williamson. The report was approved as
presented by attending members.
Vice President’s Report – Clay Beck
Clay covered the upcoming events for August and Septem-
ber. He is also trying to plan a social before the end of the month.
Clay also proposed the Lompoc Airport for a Fun Run or
Drivers Ed event. Jeff Palmer is working with Clay, Bill and
Gerry to get something together. The charge would be $200 for the area. A porta pottie is available, with a restaurant on
site. The general public can also come to the event. Clay said we may want to keep this at a club level and/or with a
small club such as the Corvair club. This would not be a sanctioned event. No recorded times...just fun. The attend-
ing members agreed it would be a fun event.
Governor’s Report– Bill Santmyer
Bill also discussed the Lompoc Airport possibilities. A big
thank you to Jeff and Holly for taking the initiative to pre-sent this opportunity to the club. We can submit a non-
sanctioned event to the NCCC Regional Competition Direc-
tor and be covered by NCCC insurance for such an event and charge $10 a car and possibly make a little money.
Bill also suggested we hold our monthly meetings in the
Santa Maria area to balance membership location for all. Attending members agreed.
Round the Table
Bev Erickson—Looking forward to her grandkids return-ing to school.
Jeff Palmer—Changed the oil in his plane today.
Gerry White– Not attending the autocross on the 5th. Will be going to San Fran to his brothers. Car show in Lompoc on
the 19th of August. The cruise will be Friday night. Not sure
what charity they are sponsoring.
The remaining members had nothing to report.

Autocross at Santa Maria Airport On August 5th Vapor Trail Vettes hosted their third auto-
cross of the year. Fifty drivers registered and 48 arrived Saturday morning. All drivers got 10 runs and by the
comments they really enjoyed the layout of the track. An-other successful event by our club.
A big thank you to Clay Beck, Chuck Robertson, Bill Santmyer, Dave Schultz, Hector Paz, and driving mem-
bers and enthusiast Pat Kelley, Doug Nicoll, Jeff & Holly Palmer and Larry Wright for working the event and to
those that set up the track on Friday afternoon. We can-not put on these events without you.

Tech Corner—Mid-Engine Corvette
There are a lot of rumors surrounding the C8 mid-engine Corvette that is scheduled to arrive in 2018 as a 2019 model.
“The Corvette assembly facility in Bowling Green, Ken-tucky began its summer shutdown on July 28 to prepare for 2018 model year production. Rumor has it the lengthy shutdown is to make the necessary changes to prepare for production on the mid-engine Corvette. The facility won’t open again until October. “ (Siu, July 31, 2017)
Sean Szymkowski (2017, GM Forum) wrote a report enti-tled “Mid-Engine C8 Corvette to boast near six-figure price. Arrive in 2019” for GM Authority. “The report states the price tag will climb higher than $120,000 AUD (roughly $89,000 USD) and debut as a 2019 model year vehicle. The price is highly debatable, but sources claim the C8 Corvette will offer Ferrari-beating performance at one-third of the cost. “
“The re-port di-vulges details on the power-trains as well. Spe-cifically, a “base” C8 Corvette is rumored to arrive with a 502 horsepow-er small-block V8 engine with the latest lightweight and aerodynamic technology. Shaving weight from the car is said to be a high priority to help make the C8 Corvette the quickest, fastest iteration of the nameplate ever. Interest-ingly, the report states the small-block V8 will retain an OHV configuration. We’d beg to differ, but suppose any-thing is possible.”
“In regards to additional variants, an even hotter ZR1 model is said to arrive early next decade with a DOHC V8 engine producing around 670 hp, while a C8 Corvette E-Ray employs hybrid systems to push power even further. General Motors has already moved to trademark the “E-Ray” name and a Corvette mule has been spotted at GM’s battery facility, too.”

Corvette Shopping Trip By Jeff & Holly Palmer
So now we have 4 cars for the two of us. We don’t need to be spending the money it takes to maintain 4 cars. But she wanted to keep her Dodge Charger, I wanted to keep my Dodge Charger and we didn’t want to sell the Corvette or the truck. Decisions, decisions. So on one lazy Saturday we decided to go out and look for a new white Corvette convertible. We agreed that if we can afford it we’ll trade the blue convertible and my Dodge for it. Of course we didn’t expect to find one, let alone be able to afford it. So we felt safe. After spending the day shopping around Buellton and Santa Maria and looking on line, we didn’t find anything. But, for chuckles, we decided to stop into Sunset Chevrolet in Lompoc. They certainly wouldn’t have
one. Oops! There it was, sitting right in the showroom. It wasn’t a convertible, but it was white. So we asked them to run the numbers so we can see it’s too expensive. But with the trade ins, factory incentives, discount, rebate and loyalty incentive it turned out we can afford it. It actually came out to where the insurance and license savings pretty much makes the payments. We weren’t actually looking for anything more than a basic model, but we had to settle with the Stingray with the Z51 package. Oh well. So that wasn’t all. GM sent us an invitation and discount to attend the basic driver training course at Spring Mountain Race Track in Pahrump Nevada. So we both went to that and I’ll tell you what, I had no idea that this car was such a beast! Anyone who buys a series 7 Corvette should take this course.
