Greetings from ASQ Southeast Florida Section 1510. Our dinner/meeting/presentation on March 13 at Tropical Acres Steakhouse in Ft. Lauder-dale was a success. This was our second joint meeting with Section 1515 of Greater Palm Beach in 2018 and it was held as usual in Fort Lauderdale in order to be closer to the center of population among Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade Counties. It was attended by slightly over 40 members. The door prize winner at this meeting was Myriam Ochart of Lean Compliance Partners who won a Crock-Pot® Philadelphia Eagles NFL 6 Quart Cook & Carry Slow Cooker. Congratulations to Myriam. The topic of the presentation was “MedTech Quality in the Age of Big Data – Are you Ready?” Naveen Agarwal, Ph.D. of Creative Analytics Solutions, LLC made an excellent presentation of this topic. Big Data technologies are driving unprecedented changes in the Medical Device industry. This presentation provided an overview of the MedTech industry, current Big Data technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and deep learning. If you are a Quality or Regulatory professional, this presentation will help you understand how your role is likely going to change in the future and how you can prepare. Thank you Dr. Agarwal who is a member of ASQ Jacksonville Section, for sharing your experiences with ASQ Sections 1510 and 1515.
"The winner of the Section 1510 Orlando Acevedo Quality Scholarship for 2017 was Bran-don Godefroy. Congratulations Brandon for an outstanding essay on quality and your ex-cellent credentials." Our next Section 1510 membership activity for the month of April has not been determined as of the writing of this message. Our membership meetings are usually held on the second Tuesday of the month but please, verify the latest information in our newsletter “The Vari-ant”, our Website, and/or LinkedIn. Section 1510 continues to offer 15 different classes including 13 refresher courses for the ASQ exams plus Internal Auditing for Quality Systems and Blueprint Reading. Payment is not required until there is a minimum of five students already registered. You will be noti-fied when the course could be offered for you to submit payment as soon as possible so the books will be available the first day of classes. Check the details and contacts in our news-letter The Variant, our Website, and/or LinkedIn. The ASQ is going through a “Transformation” transition that is planned to become effective on January 1, 2019. The main two reasons given for this are that one, the ASQ as registered in the State of New York and being under the IRS regulations for non-profit organizations, has to comply with such regulatory entities. And two, that the ASQ lately has not been growing as it was expected. This “Transformation” is not going to affect our membership but I want them to be aware of the latest. Changes will mostly affect the Regional and Headquarter level. According to the latest information, Sections will remain the same and will continue providing the same services and benefits that all of you are accustomed to.
