The View
October 2015
Next Step Groups Begins November 1, 2015 The next set of Next Step Groups will begin on Sunday, Nov 1st and go through Dec. 27th. Next Step Groups are designed to move you forward in your walk with Jesus. From family to finances to our spiritual walk, God has provided us with Steps to take to discover how we are to live this life. The Next Steps are not a magic formula that guarantees everything will be perfect. The Next Steps are a recipe that provides the healthy ingredients and environments for spiritual growth. Here is a list of the new classes that will begin in November… 9:15 Classes: Smart Money, Smart Kids: Financail Peace (Dave Ramsey) has put together a
program to help parents equip their kids to understand God’s plan for their fi-nances. One of the truths to finances is that the younger you start the better off you will be. Leader: Roy & Glenda Spicer
Discovering Ministry: God created you with gifts, talents and experience that equip you to serve. This class is designed to help you discover and understand just how God designed you and equipped you to serve Him. Leader: Paul Thomas
11:00 Classes Ready to Launch: As parents our objective is to prepare and equip our children to
be the adults God designed them to be. But how do we do that? This video series will walk you through the attitude and actions needed to equip our children for adulthood. Leaders: Jess McHargue & Zach Blessin
Small Group Leaders: An opportunity to learn from other leaders and to share ideas with each other on how to be quality small group leaders who lead spiritual small groups. Leaders: Jay Heckenlivley & Tony Schroeder
Why The Bible?: Watch for more information on this class in the Sunday morning bulletin.
We have other ongoing Next Step Groups that meet at 8:00, 9:15 and 11:00 am each Sunday morning. If interested in any of these classes contact Paul Thomas.
NEW VISION STATEMENT
Helping People Discover a Deepening Relationship with Jesus, His Family, & His Mission.
Wednesday Night @ the Refuge
We’re seeing great things happen at youth group this Fall. We’ve had several
new volunteers join our team to lead our students and even more new stu-
dents getting connected to God through this ministry of our church. One
note of celebration to note is that we had our largest Middle School night
ever a couple of weeks ago when we had 38 middle school students! It’s
awesome to see God grow these students and drawing more to Himself in
our student ministry!
Fields of Faith
“Wednesday October 14th @ 7pm at Ray Ehlers Stadium middle and high school students are invited along
with any community members from here and elsewhere. Fields of faith brings students and community
members together in a common community setting to
proclaim what God has done through high school ath-
letes, college athletes, and college coaches. Fields of
Faith also challenges all in attendance to be in God's
Word daily. Our keynote speaker will be Brady Bonsall
the UNK Track and Cross Country coach.” – Grant Pe-
terson, Lexington FCA Huddle Leader
In support of this event and building unity among all Christian students, there will be no regularly scheduled
youth group that night, but we will be having ice cream sundaes at the Refuge immediately after Fields of
Faith for everybody at the event

Loving Others Though there is great variety in how
God has made us, we are united in our
faith relationship with Him as Chris-
tians. We also share some core biblical
values as his followers in the Parkview family. These values help us promote and
pursue unity with each other as we follow Jesus together.
One of our core values is “loving others.” We are determined to love people as
Christ commands. This love should be genuine and practical. In John 13:35 Jesus
says “By this all men will know that you are My disciples, of you have love for one
another.” He repeats in John 15:12, “This is My commandment, that you love one
another, just as I have loved you.” Love, real love impacts what we do and how
we do it. Love for people should be a defining mark of who are as a church family.
Love is the goal of our spiritual growth and the bond that unites us as we serve
God together. (1Tim 1:5)
When facing a challenge or decision we must ask, “What is the loving way to
engage this situation?” Love does not always give in, but it seeks what is ulti-
mately best. Love allows us to accept each other as we are and to encourage each
other to move forward in holiness and spiritual growth. Such love goes a long way
to building our unity as we build each other in Christ.
What comes out is eternal. Every gift-filled shoebox is a powerful
tool for evangelism and discipleship--
transforming the lives of children and
their families around the world through
the Good News of Jesus Christ!
This year our church is again providing
you with the unique opportunity to
share Christ with a child using a simple
shoebox! Your shoebox will reach a child in a troubled country with the Gospel
message. We are taking part in Samaritan’s Purse, the Christian relief and evangel-
ism ministry led by Franklin Graham. People across the country are simply getting
shoe boxes from home and filling them with small toys, school supplies and other
little gifts. We need to collect shoe boxes this year by Sunday, November 22nd
Please donate $7 for each shoe box you prepare to help cover the cost of shipping.
Gift suggestions are school supplies, toys, dolls, small cars, jump robes, yo-yos,
harmonicas, slinky, hygiene items, hard candy, lollipops, mints, gum, jewelry,
watches, t-shirts, socks, flashlights with extra batteries. Do not include used or
damaged items, war-related items such as toy guns or military figures, liquids or
lotions, breakable items, chocolate or food.
This year we have shoe boxes available for you to take and fill. We encourage
you to shop and fill your own shoebox’s this year. Look for more information in
the next few weeks!

Baptist Mid-Missions
in Brazil
We are back in the States
arriving on Sept. 4th. The
Lord has answered many of
our prayers and has been
putting a team together that
is leaving me in awe. We
are in the beginning of the
“panic stage” of getting
ready for our annual EBR
Conference in November.
We still need financial help,
need to find a team of
children’s workers and are
trying very hard to get the
same number of attendees as
last year. So we have work to
do. We have put many miles
under the wheels of my late
Grandma’s Buick Century.
Where we have traveled
we’ve been will received and
have met many new friends.
Soo…, here are our updated
prayer requests:
Safe travels & God’s supply
to pay for it all, the sale of
the EBR property, financial
help for the EBR conference.
Financial help to be able to
launch 5 new books this
year. Anita & my emotional
& spiritual health, we are
pretty weary. Our children
Jennifer & John who are both
attending Bible Colleges here
in the states and our support
needs.
His for Brazil,
Mark & Anita
We will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, his power, and the wonders he has
done. -Psalm 78:4
The Gospel Project is officially underway and we have dived
right into the opening pages of Scripture! For those of you who
aren’t familiar with the Gospel Project, it is an in-depth curricu-
lum that points to the gospel of Jesus Christ as the source of life-
transformation and the foundation for spiritual growth while
showing how the entire Bible reveals God’s plan of redemption
through Jesus Christ. We would encourage anyone, kid and
adult alike, who would like to learn more about how Jesus ties
the whole of the Bible together to stop by the Next Gen Kids
room in the northwest area of the church and see the impressive
timeline that illustrates our three-year journey.
We would also ask parents to help us achieve our newly imple-
mented goal of having all kids Grades K-5, bring their Bibles
with them every Sunday. If your child doesn’t have a Bible or
needs one that is a little more kid friendly, let one of the Next
Gen leaders know and we’d be happy to provide a Bible at no
cost. Please remember that we are here to assist you in any way
we can to help your kids love Jesus all the more. If you have any
questions, thoughts, or ideas, please e-mail James
at [email protected] !
Thanks, James

This is in memory of Mary Achterberg. She went home to be with the
Lord, August 14th. I enjoyed visiting with her, helping her roll yarn or
untangle yarn. She tried to reach me how to crochet. The few times her
daughter could not have devotions with her, Mary and I would have de-
votions together. It was a special time. Her daughter was faithful in vis-
iting and taking her to the doctor. Mary was blind, but continued to cro-
chet by feel. The hot pads she made have gone to four countries. She
made cup holders and covers for chairs. She would make these for LIFE Ministry and Parkview on
the Lawn. Her son-in-law would fix what needed fixing, cut the grass around the birdfeeder and
windmill. She enjoyed hearing the birds enjoyed teasing her son-in-law. Even though she had mul-
tiple health problems, including dementia, she was a delight. I am missing Mary but know she is
happy and rejoicing in being with the Lord.
John Copelin went home to be with the Lord on September 9th. Always enjoyed visiting with him
and Ernie at the nursing home. Mary and John will be greatly missed by all who knew them.
Thank you to all of those who visited the LIFE Ministry table. It was a fun and busy time. I look
forward to Parkview on the Lawn 2016.
Sincerely in Christ, Barb Chase

Insights for Relationships by Roger Daum
There is a great need today for Christian couples with a healthy marriages to come along side other couples
to mentor them. Mentors are life coaches or disciplers of others. We’ve already considered two of four
qualities God looks for in a godly Biblical mentor.
1. Having a problem and working on it.
2. Being a learner-learning how to love and live together in marriage as followers of Christ.
Another characteristic of a Biblical marriage mentor is being willing to illustrate through one’s life and mar-
riage the practical application of God’s Word. Ezra, an Old Testament teacher illustrated the personal disci-
pline of study, application, and teaching in his life and ministry. In Ezra 7:9b-10 we read that Ezra had set
his heart to study the Law of the Lord, to practice and teach it in Israel. He was an illustrator of Biblical
truths. The Apostle Paul encouraged people to follow his example (illustrator) to them.
To be an effective Biblical mentor we must be personally convinced that Scripture answers every problem in
living (including problems in marriage), either in truth or in principle. 2 Tim. 3:16-17 says “All Scripture is
inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that
the man (woman) of God may adequate, equipped for every good work.” Your cure curriculum to mentor
others will be your illustrating how to apply God’ Word in your life and marriage.

September pantry day at the Refuge Food Basket was a day for praising
our AWESOME Father! Two little children accepted Jesus! How amazing
it is to see this happen, as it has been part of our mission, not only to serve
the needy but for them to see Jesus in us and to want HIM. Please keep
these kids in your prayers and our other guests as well.
Thank you to all that stopped at our booth for Parkview on the Lawn! It was a great day and we
are so thankful to be a part of such a giving church. We had people play a game to guess how many
pounds of rice we hand out and how many plastic bags we use for bagging food, the correct an-
swers were 158lbs of rice and 494 bags!
Psalm 146 “Praise the Lord! Let all that I am praise the Lord. I will praise the Lord as long as I live.
I will sing praises to my God with my dying breath.”
The next Refuge Food Pantry date is on October 17th from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Items most
needed are soup, canned fruit, pasta, pasta sauce, cereal, tuna/meat, and peanut butter. All items
can be left at the church in the shopping cart in the foyer. Thanks for all donations.
‘The View’ Pastor’s log October 2015
I am very excited about our renewed focus on worship in the church wide- series. Will you worship. Our
hope is that all of us will take a real, God-led step forward through this. I can’t think of anything more benefi-
cial to our spiritual health & growth than simple genuine worship of Jesus.
Let me ask you to consider taking specific steps in three specific areas: Attendance, participation & focus.
ATTENDENCE: Increase your commitment to attend gathered worship of Jesus.
If you barely attend, why not give it a try for this series.
If you are not regular, choose to attend as a habit.
If you are regular but not frequent, increase your frequency to a weekly commitment.
PARTICIPATION: Actively love God with your heart, soul, mind & strength.
If you are unwilling to participate, ask God to soften your heart and make you willing to worship
Him.
If you are just a spectator, why not join in with prayer, singing, listening for God, taking notes & re-
sponding to Him. The Psalms say make a joyful noise not an awesome noise. So go for it!
If you are going through the motions but bored, intentionally engage your heart & mind. Jesus is pre-
sent, give yourself to Him.
FOCUS:
If you are focused on yourself: what you get, what you like, what you will & won’t do. Repent of wor-
shipping yourself and focus on Jesus.
If you are focused on others: judging or critiquing them repent of sitting in God’s chair, remember
your own weakness and focus on Jesus.
If you are focused on others: trying to get a date, worrying about who is watching you and what they
will think if you let loose in expressing your worship. Repent of worshipping others and focus on Je-
sus.
To focus on Jesus make the intentional choice to enter the room expressing praise & gratitude to Him.
We have much to thank God for. The fact that worship does not come easy and is often squeezed out betrays
the true sinfulness and selfishness of our hearts. Let’s fight through this together and raise the level of our
worship.
May the words of our mouth and the meditation of our hearts be pleasing in His sight!
John
