Hello everyoneUntil a couple of years ago, our whole family made an annual pilgrimage in May tobeautiful Cornwall. Weeks were counted down from Christmas in excitement. We

stayed in some fabulous houses in lovely places, usually beside the sea. But lifemoves on, the boys are older and can't be taken out of school: although we still lovedriving, we don’t drive the distances we used to and we have new family membersnow. Fortunately, we have oodles of photos of gardens, seascapes, vistas and all thefamily creating lovely memories.

Remember, no-one can take away, what you've already had and today you will bemaking memories for the future. Hope you can make happy ones. Gina

TO ALL PARISHIONERSTO ALL PARISHIONERSTO ALL PARISHIONERSTo Brexit or not to Brexit? – hat is the question! Our votes (yours and mine) as we go to the Polls next month todecide whether the UK wishes to remain a member of the European Union will probably

be the most important vote we will make at the polls in our life time. It will affect all of us.

The stay in crowd say:Jobs We maintain trade relations with the continent and thereby secure jobs.

National Security "It is through the EU that we exchange criminal records and passenger records and work together on counter-terrorism," National Financial Impact The UK's status as one of the world's biggest financialcentres will be diminished if it is no longer seen as a gateway to the EU for the likes of USbanks,

BUT the get out crowd say:Jobs Control of our own boarders means we decide how many immigrants come to theUK – limit the numbers coming in and there will be more jobs available for those alreadyhere.

National Security Unless we get out we leave the "door open" to terrorist attacks. Openborders do not allow us to check and control people.

National Financial Impact Free from EU rules a regulations Britain could reinvent itself AND there would be an immediate cost saving, as the country would no longercontribute to the EU budget (£13bn)

These are just some of the arguments. None of the above statements tell the full storyby any means but you can see my dilemma as there are equally good arguments onboth sides of the campaign – so who to believe and who is right? What to do?

I've been pondering this conundrum and there is a big part of me, as a Christian, thatsays –stay with our friends in Europe; we are better, stronger together and surely weshould aim to be an inclusive nation, welcoming and willing to work with our brothers andsisters across our boarders in fellowship and love. Together we can form policies andfriendships that benefit everyone and are a beacon of light in the world. After all (on amuch smaller scale admittedly) that is what our group of ten churches are aiming to dohere. But then someone remarked to me that if the EU were embedded in ChristianValues that would be fine but sadly it more often seems to be about power grabbing.

So where does this leave us? To Brexit or not to Brexit? For me that is still the BIGquestion! I shall now go off into a quiet room to pray about it and hope to hear God's still

small voice guiding my hand as I place my X. Or should that beWith Love Rev’d Jane

ASHWICKEN , LEZIATE & BAWSEY NEWSLEZIATE PARISH COUNCIL REPORT

thThe Parish Council met on Wednesday 13 April 2016.

The Parish Council, in the past month, has been bombarded by consultations.Councillors discussed the latest consultations which included the proposedCommunity Infrastructure Levy, changes to planning consultation and thechangeover to electronic planning consultation.

The Council felt that the proposed CIL charging structure was divisive anddetrimental to the smaller property developer. On the planning changes it was felt that Norfolk ALC had put forward acomprehensive response which Leziate Parish Council agreed to fully endorse.Leziate Parish Council have been receiving planning consultations electronically fora few years so the change in receiving hard copies would not be so keenly felt as inother parishes, however one comment was that local people would not have thefacility to look at plans locally (i.e. at the Clerks house) and indeed without access tobroadband or a computer it was felt this maybe not be a democratic decision. All ourcomments will be passed onto the correct sources.

Concerns were raised once again with lake levels both at Leziate and Bawsey. Itwas mentioned that the car park along the B1145 is still shut and when it is good

weather the cars are starting to build up along this dangerous stretch of road. CllrCoke was asked what progress had been made with the making of a clearway alonghere and the re-opening of the car park.Highway issues continue to be of concern in the parish. It wasreported to Cllr Coke that maintenance of the grippes and drainage is essential and costeffective as lack of maintenance causes bigger issues. The vegetation along East Winch Road has still not been cut. The Parish Council are unableto confirm ownership and asked the County Councillor to look at this as a cut has beenpromised for nearly two years and it is causing issues for cars on a relatively narrow road.

Cllr Smith has written an article about Homewatch but received no interest. The scheme willcontinue in much the same way however more people need to be involved to make thesuccess continued.

The Parish Council received a letter from a resident regarding bonfires in the parish. Adviceon when and how bonfires are allowed can be found on the Borough Council's website, but wewould encourage people to be considerate to their neighbours when starting a bonfire.

The next Parish Council meeting is the Annual meeting and we encourage all residents toattend. There will be an opportunity for everyone to have a chance to talk to the Council. This

    th

meeting will be at 7.30 on 11 May in Leziate Village Hall. We look forward to welcoming you.

Ashwicken Church of England Primary SchoolHere at Ashwicken Primary thecontractors have nearly completed ouroutdoor play areas. Our playing field isawaiting a brand new astro turf surfaceand then we are planning a woodlandoutdoor activity area with a woodenstory house, climbing structures, balancing bars and seating.

The children have managed very wellwith the restricted play space over thepast year and it will be fantastic for

them to have more space to runaround and participate in play andsports activities.

    Leziate WI – April meeting

We commenced our meeting by singing 'Jerusalem'. Diane West, our speaker fromNorfolk & Waveney Health Trainers, was introduced to us by president, MyrtleRoberts. Diane gave a wonderful talk including showing us a large poster with ways toimprove our health by exercise and eating healthy foods and to check food labels:green – low, amber – medium, red - high, and to eat all in moderation. We were givenbooklets to help us, showing the value of our 5 a day fruit and veg. She was thanked byMyrtle. After our tea and biscuits, the meeting commenced.

Members who attended the WI group meetingat Swaffham had enjoyed the storyteller HughLupton from Aylsham. He told us a story fromEngland about the Swaffham Pedlar and thena story rom Scotland, Ireland and wales, whichwere not so easy to understand. He was a verygood storyteller though. Members havebooked to attend the Dersingham and WalpoleSt Peter flower festivals in June.

The competition of a good health tip was wonby Myrtle Roberts, second Heather Box, third

Wendy Twite. Joan Brown won the raffle. We then sang the National Anthem for theth

Queen's 90 birthday, in our red, white and blue and waving our flags. We certainlyknow how to enjoy ourselves in Leziate WI.Wendy Twite

    Gayton Women's' Institute

    th

Report of our meeting on Tuesday 5 April 2016:-Our speaker for the evening for our monthly meeting was Ann Newmeir fromSwaffham who has moved to Norfolk from the south east. She now says that shefeels so lucky to be living in such a beautiful county, which we obviously all agreedwith, particularly us locals!!

She regaled us with tales of her many holidays, in various parts ofthe world and the dilemma which we all understood – that ofpacking the cases to go away and guess whose job that is? Wewomen of course, but the men know what is needed and whether itwill all fit in – or not!!

Following Ann's entertaining talk we were able to enjoy therefreshments kindly provided for us by Penny Andrews, Ann Atkin and Debbie Bailey.

Our President, Gillian Smith then advised us that discussion is still taking place as tothe future of the Jubilee Hall, where we have met for many years.

Sandra Brock, our Secretary advised us of the various invitations she had receivedfor our members to attend other W.I's events in the coming months, one of whichwas to join a coach trip to Wroxham Barns. As a group our committee are planningan outing to Hunstanton for a stroll along the promenade following a fish and chipsupper, a car boot sale, and hopefully an outing to Thursford in November to see theChristmas Show.

Sixteen of our members were keen to pay for their tickets to attend the Nar ValleythGroup Meeting at Swaffham on 13 April to hear Hugh Lupton, a Norfolk Storyteller,

and they weren't disappointed. A truly talented person who managed to keep theaudience enthralled with his tales from each of the four countries that make up theBritish Isles.

Raffle Prizes were won by Debbie Bailey, Elaine Clark and Marion Scales.

If you would like to join our happy group then please call our Secretary Sandra, on01553 636348 who will be very happy to give you any more details you may require.

    Gayton Gift Day

You may be aware that St Nicholas Church is fortunate to have received legacymoney in the past couple of years which is an enormous help in enabling themaintenance and repair to the fabric of our beautiful and historic building.

However this money cannot be used to support theday to day expenses of the church and it is astruggle each year to find the resources to get by.Hence we always need support from the village ifwe are to be able to continue to retain an activevicar in our parish to provide services such asBaptisms, Weddings, and Funerals as well as ourregular services and special services at Festival

times and Remembrance Sunday. You may not be aware that the church needs around £14,000 every year tocover insurance premiums, heating, lighting, the parish contribution to thediocese (to help pay for our vicar) and other general running costs.

Fees for weddings and funerals during the year usually amount to around£2,000. Not many people realize that the balance has to come from regulargiving and other donations as the church receives no outside or governmentfunding.

If you would like to help ………….

Gina's Page: an irregular page of fun things

Mahatma Ghandi, as you know, walked barefoot most of the time, which producedan impressive set of calluses on his feet. He also ate very little, which made himrather frail and with his odd diet, he suffered from bad breath. This made him what?

(get ready: this is so bad, it's good). A super callused fragile mystic hexed byhalitosis.

Our senior daughter SJ, is a vegetarian, but unfortunately, she's not that keen onvegetables! Although she is a mum herself now (to the two boys), I still try to get herto eat her veg. by disguising them and this recipe is a classic!

    For two servings:

½ med cauliflower: 2 cups of fresh spinach: 1 can of butter beans drained: ½ cup ofvegetable stock: ½ a med. Red onion: 3 cloves of garlic: 2 tbsps. of sundriedtomatoes packed in oil and drained: 1 tbsp. capers: ½ tsp dried thyme: pine nutstoasted or not and optional.

Zizz the cauliflower, spinach, onion, garlic andhalf the can of beans in a food processor untilfine like rice. (If you don't have a machine, cookthe cauliflower for five minutes in water and thenmash and finely slice the other ingredients).

Heat some oil of your choice in a pan and cook

the veg for about 4 mins. Stirring now and then, add the stock and cover. On a med heat, cookfor a further 5 mins, stirring occasionally. Chop the tomatoes, add to the pan, alongwith the thyme, capers, rest of the beans and nuts. Cook for a further minute .Done! This is nice on its own, but can be served with anything you like.

Health TipIf you think you have a cold/sore throat approaching you might like to try this: it

works for us…½ tsp of Bicarbonate of Soda mixed in ½ cup of warm water taken at bedtime andagain in the morning.

And Finally – my tribute to the very funny Victoria Wood

Once went to one of those parties where everyone throws their car keysinto the middle of the room. I don't know who got my moped but I've beendriving that Peugeot for years.

Let’s do it! Let’s do it! I really want to rant and rave. Let’s go, cos I know, just how I want you to behave: Not bleakly, not meekly. Beat me on thebottom with a Woman’s Weekly. Let’s do it! Let’s do it tonight! From TheBallad Of Barry And Freda (Let’s Do It), as a frustrated wife tries to get herhubby in the mood for love.

    MAKING THINGS POSSIBLE

REMAP i s an established national charity which designs, makes or adapts equipment for adults and children withdisabilities. Every year REMAP helps about 4,000 UKindividuals in this way, helping them to lead more fulfillingand independent lives.

All clients are fully consulted about their needs. A piece ofequipment is then designed and made to solve theirspecific problem. Some devices are made from scratch –others are modifications or attachments to standardproducts.Sometimes it may only be advice that is required.

Your local panel is based in King's Lynn and covers an area extending from SuttonBridge in the west, through Wisbech, Downham Market, Swaffham, Fakenham, toWells in the north.

We welcome referrals from individuals, carers or health professionals and we wouldparticularly welcome enquiries from individuals who are willing to volunteer some oftheir time to help us achieve our aims. Finally, we never ask for payment and our services are free to the user. We dohowever welcome voluntary donations to cover costs of materials. Our local contacts are: John Cole 01485 542412 Brian Kallagher 01553673923Website: www.remap.org.uk
