The recent markets were a great success, blessed with a beautiful sunny Spring day, with quite a few residents coming along with their trash & treasure to sell in the Community Garage Sale outside the Hall.

Bargains were found and stall holders were happy they could sell their wares without having to advertise, then wait all day for people to come. It is safer as well as they had no unwelcome visitors to their properties.

It was also the Open Day for our local Fire Brigade & SES First Aiders. They too had a great roll up, with the Brigade showing their live-time web site to the locals as well as the world.

It is always very much appreciated the donation of time from volunteers in the kitchen, the donation of scones; it all adds to the camaraderie and spirit of our community which is ever present and is shown to passers by.

The friendliness of our regular stall holders has always made it welcoming for the public & community at large.

Windellama SES First Aid By Graeme McFarlane

Well a quiet month last month as far as callouts go, which is good news. We will be heading down to the Brigade Open Day at the Hall on the 21st September, also at the Small Farms Field Day and Country Fair; so come and say G’day.

On the SES side of things still waiting on Council and the legal side of things before our shed can go ahead. They tell me around December, here’s hoping.

We should also have our new car for the CFR within the next week or two.

Til next time, stay safe.

Local Health Service Advisory Committee - Goulburn

HEALTH COMMITEE MEMBERS GO WALKABOUT

Before commencing its last meeting on Thursday, 28 August, members of the Goulburn Health Advisory Committee (GHAC) embarked on a tour of the Goulburn Community Health Centre as part of their ongoing commitment to broadening their appreciation of health service provision throughout the Goulburn area. Members were particularly impressed with the ultra-modern dental care facilities at the Centre, along with many other areas of interest. Prior to its September meeting at the Bourke Street Health Service, members will tour the areas of patient care provided there, including the Giles Court facility.

Ms Jacqui Zutt, the Health Participation Support Officer with the Greater Southern Area H e a l t h S e r v i c e ( G S A H S ) i n Queanbeyan attended the meeting and spoke to the GHAC of the many positive ways in which she is able to provide ongoing support to the local GHAC's. She was very supportive of the manner in which the Goulburn Committee has successfully addressed the issues concerning the maintenance of information to the media. Ms Lou Fox and Ms Andrea Vaughan from Community Health were also made welcome at the meeting.

Maintenance of the extensive gardens at the Goulburn Base Hospital continues and the recent upgrades by additional plantings requires ongoing maintenance. Thanks to some of the members of the public who regularly attend physiotherapy at the Jennings Centre, their generous offer to perform some gardening tasks is greatly appreciated. There has also been another offer from St Vincent De Paul, which will be appreciated. Many thanks also to those members of the Goulburn Rose Club who have once again pruned all the rose bushes. Last year's blooms along the Maternity Ward in Albert Street were truly magnificent, and this year promises more of the same spectacular results.

Updating of the Disaster Plan for Goulburn is well advanced and Goulburn is expecting to

participate in a Disaster Exercise in early 2009. Development of a Risk Framework for Goulburn is also progressing, which will ultimately allow further development of Risk Registers for each Department and for e a c h facility.

Local Member for Goulburn, Pru Goward MP, was to visit Goulburn Base Hospital In August. She was unable to attend, however, and expects to visit the hospital in October. Ongoing reliance on the use of Agency staff nurses has now been extended to include the Base Hospital's Operating Theatre facility. On a brighter note, it is pleasing to see that the Emergency Department is now fully staffed with its complement of Registered Nurses. Recruitment directly aimed at filling a number of vacancies across many sites, is continuing, and the Base Hospital is keen to increase its numbers of Visiting Medical Officer GP's. The GHAC will meet again on 25 September 2008. Members of the community should feel free to contact members of the Committee if they have any issues that they wish to be considered.
