    The Wolf At Midnight Blues

Benjamin shall ravin as a wolf;In the morning he shall devour the prey,And at night he shall divide the spoil.

    Book of GenesisI

These are the ways of the wolf,My saddened eyes son,Dont you ever mess with them.Pray to the Lord when you go through the vale,When you go running by the fields,When you step by the hill,Recall what the reverend pastors say.Beg to the good Lord that they dont find you,Flee, go away from the deep woods,Do not letem see you;For they see the fright in your eyes,

And have no mercy;Neither the weak nor the old they commiserate. Before the good Lord createdThem white man of blue eyes,Our colored fathers of strong loins,The yellow man of gentle soul,

And them red men of brave heart,He had set the tricky wolf on these lands,When God said to Adam:Behold, you are over al the country beasts,Take on them, rule on them, give them name,I think He took not in mindThose dam starving snout wolves.Hear me now, boy,Theyre not like them dogsWho are after you all day long,So meek and stupid.

No sir, theyre no gracious,The Lord gave them big strength and no heart.Winter is their home,Before our ancestors came to these landsTo work on the plantations

And at the white lords houses.Winter is for the brave ones, kid,

You can be a hunter; But nor even so you will escape

From those bastards avengement. They hide in the scrub, and in the rocks at the riversideOf the brook where you bathe,They sink in the snow and break in the huts.Oh, my deep and sleepy eyed boy,Remember, our skin is black,

Like the beautiful night at the skiesOf the good Lord. But our blood is as red

    As our masters,And our flesh,

Just as our landlords. Many have been our brothers,Who hath been dead by the claws ofThem wanderin wolves,Who are amongst the grass,Who hide sneaky and unheard,

And hypnotize them when stare at them.

They fright them with their full moon eyes,

Oh, those eyes, so beautiful and so terrible,Oh, that terrifying mouth,

An when they uncover their fangs,O Lord, have mercy!

You better beg God for your soul, my boyRemember to ask forgivenessFor all your bad sins, as is saidBy the reverend pastorsThat one must do when sees the death near.O, poor fool men those who get into

The wolfs realms!King David said: The Lord is my shepherd.

You take care that the wolf doesnt get youWhile you are with the beastsOf the masters ranch,Nor you get off the limits of the cornfield. For wolves get into mens domains,They fear not their revolversNor their guns.

And they kill their sheepAnd devour their cows,And skin their goats,Dont you stay alone with those animals, hear me well. Now, listen to your mothers words,

My son, hear what I say bout the manners of the wolf.Learn from your mother,

Or youll end up your days biting your own neck.

IIThe wolf came out at midnight,When light is gone and the moon hangs in the skyBig, like a fire in the middleOf the stars. He got into these lands,Seeking for something to eat, and take into the depths of wood,

And, O, pay attention to what Ill say,You wont believe what happened. The poor Ezekiel was watching over the cornfieldJust like hed been told by the landlord,To not let foxes mess in,

Nor the rustlers come to steal food, or water, or nothing. But hear, O, Lord have mercy!Listen what happened to the poor

And unwise Ezekiel. At the time when the moon was at the highest of sky,When it gets the color of honey,

And the cold is so awfulThat it stings your bones,Ezekiel got into the maize field to see up close.

And left his lantern at home,O, poor Ezekiel, how foolish was this Ezekiel,Nor gun nor lamp carried the stupid Ezekiel.

And the wolf smelled his fear,And saw his legs shakin just like a spring,And the cold smashed his chest,Oh, that wicked wolf looked Ezekiel in the eyes,So Ezekiel yelled: -O, Lord, Lord, Lord!Jesus, be merciful! But the wolf stunned him with those torch eyesHeve got.

And we only Heard Ezekiels shriek; But the wolfs voracious snout silenced him,

And with his claws, he tore him out.O, Lord, poor and foolish Ezekiel! That night Ezekiel got eaten by the wolf,He swallowed him all. Now, when Papa Abe came to see what had happened,We all came out with bowie knives and torches,

And Papa Abe brought his shotgun, which masters gave him,That which foolish Ezekiel left at home.

And we came with our knivesTo kill the damm wolf; But when we got to the cornfield, the damm clever had gone.

And por Ezekiel, we found him hurled and bleedin,Oh! Poor Ezekiel he was left with nothin .That night the wolf killed the poor Ezekiel,Before the good Lord took himTo Heaven with the holy angels.O, Lord! Have mercy!

Deliver us from the wolfs starving snouth!Le tus not to happen like the poor Ezekiel.IIISuch are the ways of the wolf,My son,

You wont ever want to get into them.
