THE  FUTURE  OF  TRAVEL  AND  TOURISM:    WHAT  DOES  IT  HOLD?

Take  10  !   In  your  group,  create  a  brainstorm  chart  with  the  headings:

Future  Transport

Future  Tourist  Destinations

Future  Tourist  Activities

Future  Accommodations

•  Make  some  predictions,  however  wild  and  wacky,  about  the  future  of  tourism

Advanced  Transportation

ADVANCED  TRANSPORTATION

Speed Record 443 km/h or 277mph

Best average speed 262km/h or 164mph

THE SHINKANSEN (BULLET TRAIN), JAPAN

Alternative  Accommodations

Escape-it-all vacations could mean flying high above the Earth in airship hotels

Tourist  stop?  Hotel  investment  community  is  intrigued  but  remains  skeptical.  Low-‐cost  access  to  space  is  a  key  to  lofting  orbiting  facilities  like

this...as  well  as  public  waiting  lines  for  that  special  room  with  a  view.

Hotel lodging of the future could be temporary, licensed, prefabricated, self-sustaining, transportable facilities. These holiday pods can be erected on sites all over the Earth, in locales where establishing a traditional holiday resort would be unacceptable environmentally and politically.

Specialty  Destinations

ICEHOTEL, SWEDEN

Situated in the village Jukkasjärvi, 200 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle in Sweden.

LUXURY SAFARIS: SOUTHERN AFRICA

THE PALMS: DUBAI, UAE The Palm Trump International Hotel and Tower

Located on the trunk of the Palm Jumeirah.

Shaped like an opening tulip

Five hundred 1, 2, and 3 bedroom apartments and penthouses, each with a sea view and access to five-star amenities.

Hotels in exotic spots could act as temporary space stations for vacationers. The structure is eco-friendly, making use of energizing solar cells. Waste would be stored within the building and periodically disposed of, according to designers. Holiday makers would be transported to the hotel by helicopter.
