Well-being is tied to many pertinent societal outcomes, such as family relationships, health, work, wealth and quality of life. Given its importance, the broad concept of well-being has attracted much interest not only from individuals but also from governments. Increasingly, policymakers across the globe are recognising that growth should not be measured exclusively by economic performance but must also comprise other dimensions that reflect quality of life and well-being.

An increasing number of national governments are using research findings on well-being as a guide for public policy, and adopting well-being indicators as measures of social progress and sustainable development.

In view of the growing public and policy interest in national measures of well-being, the NAPS is organizing it annual feature as IPSC since 2011 that focuses on research in the area of Psychology and well-being, particularly with reference to India. The IPSC brought together experts from academia, industry, and the healthcare and government sectors, who addressed questions on what well-being is, and why it matters to India.
