It is indeed our pleasure to welcome all participants of the Fifth International Conference on Computational Methods for Thermal Problems (ThermaComp2018) to Bangalore. This meeting is the continuation of the successful computational thermal problems conference, founded by Professor Roland Lewis in 1979. The aim of the ThermaComp is to bridge the gap between fundamental and applied research in all areas of thermal problems including fluid flow, heat transfer and energy research. The ThermaComp series started in Napoli, Italy in 2009. The conference was then organized in Dalian, China (2011), Lake Bled, Slovenia (2013), and Atlanta, USA (2016). The fifth ThermaComp is hosted by Indian Institute of Science Bangalore (IISc), India. We are indeed grateful that a premier institute in India stepped forward to organize this prestigious meeting. We thank all the organisers and participants and wish them a fruitful ThermaComp2018.

Message from the Local Organizing Committee
We are pleased to welcome you to the Fifth International Conference on Computational Methods for Thermal Problems (ThermaComp2018) at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.
This is a biennial conference whose previous editions were organized in Napoli (Italy) during 2009, Dalian (China) during 2011, Lake Bled (Slovenia) during 2014, and Georgia Tech (USA) during 2016. Over the years ThermaComp has evolved to become surely one of the most important and well attended conference dedicated to numerical techniques in thermal-fluid problems. As in previous years, ThermaComp2018 provides an excellent forum for exchanging information and discussion on the most recent developments and challenges in this field. This meeting represents an interdisciplinary forum of scientists with expertise ranging from heat conduction, convection and radiation to CFD, micro and nano-scale heat transfer.
In order to provide an outstanding technical level for the presentations at the conference, we have invited distinguished experts in thermal-fluid field to deliver 5 keynote and 3 plenary talks. With more than 200 participants from various countries coming together at such a conference, we can once again expect to achieve excellent exchange of knowledge and ideas.
The conference venue is the Indian Institute of Science, a premier institution in India and internationally well known for science and technology research. It is located in Bengaluru, which has always been a major contributor to science and technology at the international stage. In addition to its recent fame as Silicon Valley of India, the city has also emerged as the Research and Development hub of the country, as its hosts several institutions such as the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) laboratories, several Indian and multinational corporate R&D organizations, and premier academic institutions.
We are looking forward to meet you in Bangalore during ThermaComp2018 and to sharing a most pleasant, interesting and fruitful conference.

Paul G. Tucker
Paul G. Tucker (PGT) is the Rank Professor of Engineering at the University of Cambridge. Paul Tucker completed a Royal Society Industry Fellowship to support working at Rolls-Royce (40% of his time for 4 years). A key element of this Fellowship was developing a Large Eddy Simulation (LES) capability. He has written around 500 journal papers, conference papers,
and technical reports. The vast majority of his research has been in the area of turbulence. Paul has been a visiting researcher at NASA Langley and Boeing Commercial Airplanes, Seattle. He has recently written two books – see Tucker (2013,2016) - and a Royal Society Theme Issue (see Tucker and DeBonis (2014)). The latter largely explores the future use of LES in industry. Paul Tucker is an Associate Fellow of the AIAA. He is also an associate editor for the AIAA Journal – the world’s leading aerospace journal. He has been a guest Editor for Phil. Trans Royal Society three times. His most recent award was from the ASME, in 2013, for a best paper on turbomachinery LES work exploring complex transition mechanisms. He is an elected Fellow of ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers). Prior to UK, he held faculty positions in United Arab Emirates (UAE), Singapore and Tennessee, USA.
He received his B.S. (with First-Class Honors) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Windsor, Canada and his M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. In 1994 he graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering where he worked under the supervision of Prof. Suhas V. Patankar.
He has published over 90 journal articles, over 100 conference articles and contributed a chapter to the second edition of the Handbook of Numerical Heat Transfer. According to Google Scholar, his works have been cited over 4000 times and his H-index is 28. He has worked on over US$5M in funded research projects in USA, Singapore and UAE.
His research interests are in the development of numerical techniques for complex multiphysics transport phenomena encountered in multi-phase flows and fluid-structure interactions. Applications include, but are not limited to, digital (droplet-based) microfluidics, wet chemical etching, renewable energy, asphaltene (cholesterol) depositions and numerical methods for oil and gas industry.

Jayanthi Eshwarputhi is an amalgamation of talent, passion and charm. A purist in practice and experimentalist in creative thought, Jayanthi has successfully carved a niche for herself as an established and acclaimed Kathak dancer of the renowned Lucknow Gharana. Jayanthi was trained by Padma Bhushan Smt. Kumudini Lakhiya at Nrityagram. After years of fortification of her form, Jayanthi’s aspiration to learn from the Grand Master of Kathak- Padma Vibhushan Pt. Birju Maharaj, was realised. She is also a well known Bharatnatyam dancer, having been trained under stalwarts of the art. Jayanthi is one amongst the 11 achievers to be awarded by the prestigious APJ Abdul Kalam Foundation as an “Inspired Indian” in 2017 for her contribution in the field of dance. The title “Natya Mayuri” has been conferred upon her by the Aryabhatta Cultural Association. Also, she has won the title, Karnataka Yuvak Biradari. She is an empanelled artiste of the ICCR. One can observe that in her performance, Jayanthi balances grace with gusto, movement with stability and tradition with innovation. She has numerous successful performances to her credit and has toured extensively and collaborated with artistes globally to bring out trailblazing productions. She has many workshops and lecture demonstrations to her credit. Today, Jayanthi is not only a sought after artiste, but also a teacher par excellence. She trains youngsters and adults in Kathak and Bharatnatyam primarily at the Indian Institute of Science. List of performances:
