What you need is to provide new perspectives to your thinking that would enhance growth, according to executive chairman of the Murugappa Group, A Vellayan. Speaking at the ninth convocation of the Great Lakes Institute of Management here on Sunday, the industrialist said that students should develop the skills to adapt to situations. Best managers, were always those who listened to signals from the noise around and made the best use of it. Smart people, Vellayan said, would always pounce on opportunities to learn from others. “We should never think that we are the smartest. Life will present situations where we will get opportunities to learn from others,” he said. Chairman of Katra Group, Ramesh Vangal, said students should aspire to become leaders and have an attitude where they should believe that, everything is achievable. While management gurus emphasise on the need to think ‘out of the box’, there is always an element of risk in such a

practice. What you need is to provide new perspectives to your thinking that would enhance growth, according to

executive chairman of the Murugappa Group, A Vellayan.
