While management gurus emphasise on the need to think ‘out of the box’, there is always an element of risk in such a
practice. What you need is to provide new perspectives to your thinking that would enhance growth, according to
executive chairman of the Murugappa Group, A Vellayan.
Speaking at the ninth convocation of the Great Lakes Institute of Management here on Sunday, the industrialist said that
students should develop the skills to adapt to situations. Best managers, were always those who listened to signals from
the noise around and made the best use of it. Smart people, Vellayan said, would always pounce on opportunities to learn
from others. “We should never think that we are the smartest. Life will present situations where we will get opportunities
to learn from others,” he said.
Chairman of Katra Group, Ramesh Vangal, said students should aspire to become leaders and have an attitude where
they should believe that, everything is achievable.
About 429 students of the institute, who graduated this year, were presented with the degree certificates.
