Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Christ is risen! Truly, He is risen! Alleluia! We continue the great season of Easter. Forty days of fast has given way to fifty days of feast. This celebration of the Resurrection of Christ will continue through Pentecost on May 23. I wanted to briefly recap some of the major points of my recent letter regarding some changes to our virus-related protocols. (You can read the full letter on the homepage of our website.) First, please continue to wear your mask/face covering while inside the body of the church. It should cover both your nose and mouth at the same time. - Holy water is back! In a report released Feb. 21: The “CDC is not aware of any scientific reports of the virus that causes COVID-19 spreading to people through the water in pools, hot tubs, water playgrounds, or other treated aquatic venues.” Making the Sign of the Cross with holy water at the doors of our churches is a very long tradition, reminding us of our Baptism. A good prayer to say while doing it: “I have been washed in the Blood of the Lamb, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.” (Of course, if you are still uncomfortable, recall that it is not strictly necessary to exercise this devotion.) - The section of pew in front of the altar continues to have ribbons blocking off every other pew; however, the rear and side sections no longer have ribbons. Let each of us take responsibility for maintaining a minimum of three feet between each household unit (current CDC and WHO guidelines for schools). - Ushers will again take up the collection at the Offertory by using long-handled baskets. The gifts of bread and wine will be brought down at the Offertory procession as they once were. - Perpetual Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament has been moved back to Ste Claire Chapel. Due to the large numbers of people coming to daily Mass (wonderful!), we will continue to offer daily Masses in the new church. Old St. Mary’s is open for prayer during the day. We’re blessed that ours is not a typical enclosed space with ceilings forty-six feet high and good ventilation. Still, please do all you can to stay safe and respect your fellow parishioners. At all times, kindness and patience with each other should be our norm. Finally, as our portion of the bicentennial campaign funds have continued to come in, we have been making progress on all parts of our past, present, and future needs outlined in the campaign. Most recently, we have been working hard to finalize all that is needed to replace the roof on our beloved Old St. Mary’s. If all goes as planned, we should begin in June or July. Enjoy this blessed Easter season! Father Wilson

Queridos hermanos en Cristo: ¡Cristo ha resucitado! ¡Verdaderamente ha resucitado! ¡Aleluya! Padre Wilson

Act of Spiritual Communion

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

Holy Mass Intentions

Face Masks Required/Cubrebocas son

Obligatorios

We are respectfully requiring that everyone attending Holy Mass wear a face covering or mask during the celebration of Mass, except for the act of receiving Holy Communion. The covering must cover both your mouth and nose. Bishop Guglielmone has asked that parishes in the diocese conform to local government ordinances. Thank you for doing your part to ensure the safety of all.

The Holy Rosary

Join us as we pray the Rosary together Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday before the 5:30pm Mass, and Wednesday after the 8:20am Mass.

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

2021 — the Year of St. Joseph

Blessed William Joseph Chaminade wrote “St. Joseph was not a passive instrument in the great work of our salvation; he played a very active role.” To think about: Do we actively step out in faith to do the Lord’s work? Or are we more passive, waiting to be asked to do something? Don’t wait for someone to ask … visit your neighbor who lives alone, call your relative, invite a friend to a parish event, or start a conversation.

Thank You!

Christians of the Holy Land: I am very pleased that many of you took the time to come to meet me after Mass. Your community and Fr. Wilson and Fr. Francisco were incredibly gracious, supportive and accommodating, thank you folks. I appreciate that many parishioners purchased the olive wood religious articles that were available; thank you. Your kindness and concern towards our Christian Holy Land is very humbling. A few Christian Palestinians are working to replenish what you purchased and hopefully more. Covid-19 has crippled their supply chain in producing goods because there is no demand for their products. Much like in the United States, with Covid-19 many businesses can't operate profitably at 25% capacity. In Bethlehem in particular, the demand is at close to zero, with the exception of sales generated like this at the local parish level. It is a blessing for us here in America to be in a position of support. Thank you for supporting our Christian Holy Land. I ask you for your continued prayers for peace and an end to Covid-19. Please pray for pilgrims to come back and visit us in Bethlehem. Salam and Jesus is Risen. - Rami Qumsieh, KCHS [email protected]
