July 1, 2018

Farewell message from Fr. Kalivela I feel lucky to be at St. John Nepomuk parish; it is why saying goodbye is so hard. You may be aware that I am being transferred from St. John Nepomuk Church to Epiphany of the Lord Church in Oklahoma City. I move to Epiphany on July 3, 2018. This is my last weekend with you. Though I am used to changes and moves from one parish to another, the beautiful Church of St. John and its warm and welcoming pastor and parishioners make it hard to say goodbye. I have enjoyed my stay and ministry in this parish for the past year. I love this parish with its big and beautiful church, wonderful chapel, and school. The devotionally celebrated liturgies and activities strengthen my faith and guide me to learn and live better. I am grateful to God for the wonderful experience in the past year in this church. His plans are amazing in bringing me to St. John Nepomuk for a grace-filled experience in my life. I offer a special thanks to Fr. Rex Arnold for his guidance throughout this year of my ministry as his associate. I have been a pastor in many parishes in India, and I had associates and seminarians helping me in some of those parishes. As I look back, I feel sorry for them and say to myself, “I should have taken care of them and guided them as well as Fr. Rex cared and guided his associate.” Thank you, Fr. Rex, you have been a good pastor, mentor, and friend to me. The Deacons and the staff in our parish are exceptionally good and kind to me in helping me do my ministry fruitfully in this parish. I thank them for their willingness to help me, and many times, even going out of their way. I also wish to extend my sincere thanks to the various ministries in the parish, especially the Knights of Columbus, Ladies Auxiliary, Altar Society, Rosary Group, Paula’s Daughters, Vincent de Paul Society, Bible Study group, sacristans, communion ministers, lectors, ushers, and greeters. Your help is appreciated in so many ways. My special thanks to everyone in the parish. Ever since you came to know about my transfer to Epiphany of the Lord Church, many of you tell me that you will miss me and that you wish that I could stay longer. Thank you for the love, care, and concern you show to me. Your kindness and goodness help me to serve the parish joyfully. I hear many kind words from you, and I receive great encouragement from you. I have learned many good things during my time in this parish. The past twelve months has been a learning year for me here in St. John Nepomuk. You all help me to speak better, interact with people better, and celebrate the Sacraments better. It is very satisfying to see people come up to me and tell me after the Mass that they appreciated my homily and my celebration of Mass. I couldn’t have asked for a better parish to learn and better myself. I will remain grateful to St. John Nepomuk Church all my life. I know I am not perfect. Therefore, I may have troubled some of you through my words and actions. If I have hurt anyone’s feelings, unknowingly, I sincerely ask your pardon. You have always been kind and good to me, and I know that you would be kind in forgiving my limitations. Once again, thank you for making me a part of your life and for making me an improved person. May God keep blessing you abundantly. Fr. Prabhakar Kalivela
