SUNDAY COLLECTION

Many thanks!

Mass of Thanksgiving Father Peter S Bang

Sunday, July 9, 12:00Noon Newly-ordained Father Peter Bang

(Deacon here 2016-2017) will celebrate a

Mass of Thanksgiving at 12:00Noon on

Sunday, July 9, with a First Blessing

Reception to follow in the Lower Hall.

All are invited.

This Tuesday, July 4, is the 241st birthday of

our nation and a legal holiday. It is also the

second of our 2017 summer holidays. So there

will be a holiday schedule here at St Charles. There will be one

daily Mass, at 8:30am. The Parish Office will be closed so that

the staff can spend time with family and friends.

Over the years, St Charles Parish has been blessed to host

dozens of young men for “field education” as they pursued a

vocation to the priesthood. From May 2016 through May of

2017, Peter Bang served his internship and his diaconate with us.

He was ordained a priest in May and was then allowed to return

to his native Korea for a month. Father Bang has now been

assigned to Holy Angels Parish in Bainbridge. I spoke with his

new pastor and have arranged for Father Peter Bang to cele-

brate a Mass of Thanksgiving at St Charles next Sunday, July 9,

at 1200Noon. A Reception will follow in the Lower Hall to which

all are invited. Peter impressed so many with his genuine

kindness, evident faith, powerful homilies, and warm personality.

Come celebrate with him next Sunday!

Thank you to the St Charles Borromeo School 2017

Graduation Class for their thoughtful gift to the parish: the

cleaning and re-plating of the censers that are used at Mass.

Those censers look great, thanks to you!

Here’s a Great Big Tip of the St Charles Appreciation Hat to

our Ladies Guild for their most generous gift of $17,000. That

check represents a lot of hard work: Salad Luncheon, Mother/

Daughter Tea, Fashion Show, Raffle and the list could go on. At

the Guild’s early June meeting, we thanked Pat Lawler and Pam

Bennett for their four year run as co-presidents. We also inaugu-

rated the new co-presidents, Karen Glahn and Norma Kross.

After talking it over with the Guild ladies, we agreed that part

of their gift would go to renovating the two north confessionals (in

the old baptistery area of the church); the work began a few

weeks ago. The windows will be replaced; they are the 1955

originals-- single-pane glass with aluminum frames. We will also

add new carpeting and wall-covering, update the lighting, and

purchase some new chairs. The rooms were last “done” forty

years ago. The Guild gift will also purchase some new servers’

cassocks. The balance will go to our Sanctuary Memorial Fund

for new or replacement items for worship as needs arise.

It is also Carnival Countdown Time: only ten days till our

2017 Summer Extravaganza. We could still use a few additional

Carnival Workers. It takes 800 workers for a successful Carnival.

Please complete the Carnival Volunteer Worker Form in this

bulletin and return it to the Parish Office.

Sellers’ Appreciation Raffle #6 will take place on this Sunday

evening. That is a $500 prize. Every time you buy/sell a white or

blue sheet of tickets, complete the attached Sellers’ Ticket. There

will be two more $500 Raffles on the next two Sundays. Please do

the best you can with the Raffle tickets; they are at the heart of the

Carnival’s profit.

Proceeds from Carnival 2017 will purchase new automatic

locking/unlocking devices for our church, sixty additional

Chromebooks for our school, and an enhanced security system for

our buildings and grounds.

neighbor in need."

Merici Chapel… Yes, 2017 is half over and so we

are only six months from Christmas!! And the

older we get, the faster time goes by —just ask some-

one who is older than yourself. So how are you

spending just one hour a week preparing for your

eternity? Try and spend an hour or a few minutes in

Merici Chapel; talk with Jesus. The rewards are

priceless!

HOMECOMING CARNIVAL PARADE

the most patriotic, most Parmaesque and best decorated bicycles. If you have a connection to a local business that might be

interested in donating a prize or two (or more) to the contest, please drop it off in the Parish Office care of “Carnival

Parade.” Finally, we are still looking for groups to march in the parade. Please contact Sean Brennan at 440-382-2289 or by
