Newsletter November - December 2019. (This Newsletter is prepared by Colin Ridge)
Greetings to all,
Thank you to those who attended the recent Annual Meeting. Everything went very
smoothly under the Chairmanship of Alan Milne and I thank him for this.
One thing we tidied up was our By Laws which puts us in good stead for the immediate
future. Thank you Alan, Bob Tinworth and others for this.
Our 2020 subscription has been set at $45 and we urge you to pay this by 31st December
so we can pay the correct capitation fees to FFI.
Two members who have contributed to our club for some years stood down at the
meeting. On your behalf, I thank Jo Tinworth for her term as our Treasurer and Erica
Lineham for her input as Facebook Administrator. Both are very important positions in the
running of any club.
Welcome to the new board – see below. Most have been involved recently and it is good
to have Jan Overall joining us. We should have an excellent year again. We will be setting up
new committees for Social and Membership at our board meeting 10th, and if you would like
to help on one of these, please contact me before then.
We have had two Inbound Journeys since the last Newsletter – Wairarapa Domestic and
our Themed Outdoor Adventure. Both were very successful and reports about these are
elsewhere in this Newsletter. I thank Coordinators Anne Shearer & Beth Malcolm
(Wairarapa) and Colin Ridge, Bob Tinworth, Phil & Jan Overall (Outdoor Adventure).
To the future, 5 members will attend the 2020 FFNZ Conference in Marlborough in
February – Alan & Mary Milne, Jo Tinworth, and Colin & myself.
We have our Inbound Journey from Hsinchu in April with Jo Tinworth & Sylvia Churchman
as Coordinators, unfortunately our Japanese Language for July has been cancelled and we
are looking for an alternative, and Albany Australia
will arrive the first week in December.
Again we will be manning some checkpoints at
the NZ Ironman in March (can you help?) and
running a stand at the Home & Garden Show in
April.
Have a great Christmas and New Year holiday,
keep well, and we’ll see you at our annual picnic late
January.

Club News A big ‘get well’ to those not feeling the best or
who have damaged themselves in some way.
Take care out there.
We have purchased a ‘feather flag’ (opposite)
to use when out and about. It has a plastic
base which can be filled with water or sand to
keep it steady, and has some excellent
wording which should attract interest.
As part of our ‘Be Visible’ campaign, we are
considering printing some Bookmarks and
these will have club contact details and the
same basic wording as the flag.
Both have the new QR Code (below) which,
when photographed using a smart phone, will
take you immediately to our Website. This is
something very useful when out and about
talking to people.
If you wish to do an article
about your FF Journey for
the Newsletter, 500 words is
a maximum number with
perhaps 3-5 photos.

FFI 2020 Festival At Sea
Friendship Force is excited to announce the route for our 2020 Festival at Sea cruise!
Working with our new vendor at HelmsBriscoe, we have selected a fantastic voyage aboard
Holland America’s Noordam, the transpacific route will take us from Vancouver, through
Alaska and several ports in Japan, ending in Yokohama.
Of course, our Journey experiencing different views together may only be surpassed by
our Friendship Force program designed to help all of us discover common ground. The days
at sea will give everyone plenty of time to get to know one another while attending
workshops, talks, and social events covering a wide range of topics meaningful to both new
and seasoned members alike.
Please take a moment to review the itinerary and program outline. Registration details
can be found by going to www.friendshipforce.org. Prices start at $1399 USD for an inside
cabin, double-occupancy. There are unbelievable incentives offered for registering before
October 20th, so even if you are unsure, a fully-refundable deposit might be worth it!
Friendship Force Pledge
As a member of the Friendship Force,
I recognise that I can make a difference.
I recognise that I have a mission.
That mission is to be a friend to the people of the World.
As I embark upon this adventure, I know that others will be watching me.
I know that through my example to my fellow citizens and the people of other Nations,
The cause of friendship, love and peace, will be furthered.
I CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE
AN IRISH FRIENDSHIP WISH:
May there always be work for your hands to do;
May your purse always hold a coin or two;
May the sun always shine on your windowpane;
May a rainbow be certain to follow each rain;
May the hand of a friend always be near you;
May God fill your heart with gladness to cheer you.
and may you be in heaven a half hour before the devil knows you're dead.
Friendship Force Mission
Our mission is to promote global
understanding across the barriers that
separate people. Each individual can
make a contribution to global goodwill.
The Friendship Force worldwide network
of clubs and individuals seeks to
overcome differences among people and
nations.

Visit from Wairarapa Anne Shearer and Beth Malcolm, Coordinators.
Friendship Force Taupo Club hosted Friendship Force Wairarapa for 4 days, where we were able to show them what Taupo has to offer.
We started our day visiting the lookout over the geothermal pipes, which is a very interesting view back down the valley towards the Wairakei Geothermal Power Station.
We then travelled on to Lava Glass where we had a Glass Blowing demonstration by special craftsman and an informative commentary, again something special.
Our group moved on to the Cafe to enjoy a great selection of food and top service, after
which we viewed the beautiful Sculptured Glass Garden. A must for visitors.
Onwards to the Aratatia Dam to see the release of the water and have a peaceful Cruise on the River Boat up to the base of magnificent Huka Falls. Our skipper had so much information for our guests and locals aboard.
Next day our group and hosts visited L'Arte Cafe and Ceramic Studio, which is always a treat.
We called in to a new Pottery Gallery on the way to Kinloch.
Having picked up yummy rolls and wraps from locally owned Subway Taupo, we looked forward to a picnic on Kinloch beach.
The weather was inclement so Beth found a sheltered spot to eat and some fun was had with our Club's wooden ponies.
Ending our day with a pickup from King and Yany's Tasty Fresh Fish & Chips, for all our members and guests to enjoy at their farewell at Shearers Quarters.
A great four days was had by all and we give THUMBS UP TO ALL BUSINESS'S AND HOSTS WHO HELPED US MAKE IT A SUCCESSFUL JOURNEY.
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… Ponderisms
I used to eat lots of natural foods until I heard that most people die of natural causes!
Healthy is merely the slowest rate at which someone can die!
Health nuts are going to feel stupid one day lying
in hospital dying of nothing!
Who was the first person to look at a cow and say,
'I think I'll squeeze these dangly things and drink
whatever comes out?'
If corn oil is made from corn, and vegetable oit
made from vegetables, what is baby oil made
from?
Why doesn’t glue stick to the inside of the bottle?

Outdoor Adventure Journey Coordinators Colin Ridge & Bob Tinworth.
A recent highlight in our calendar was a visit by 16 ambassadors from USA, Canada, Russia and
Welling NZ for an Outdoor Adventure to our community and area.
During this time, they had the opportunity to take part in activities such as kayaking, white
water rafting, golf putting and driving, archery, clay target shooting, rock wall climbing, biking,
hiking, boating, swimming, barbecuing, and some walked the Tongariro Alpine Crossing.
They also visited some of the area’s natural wonders and manmade attractions. These included
the Otorohanga Kiwi House, Glow-worm caves, Wai-o-tapu and mud pool, Agrodome, Treewalk,
Whakarewarewa, Duck Tours, and staying two nights at The Chateau.
The common consensus of all was that this is a beautiful part of the world, and they would take
this message back to their friends at home.
