On-Line Newsletter You can look at the Ridgewood Review on-line. Go to ontrac-newsletters.net to view. They do newsletters for many parks so just scroll down to Ridgewood and you are in. You can see the pictures in color on-line. Or you can get your paper copy in the plastic bin outside the Clubhouse. One of these days it will be open again.

Review Articles If you would like to add something to the Review, please text me at 970-749-0943 or email it to me at [email protected]. Would love some pictures of anything happening in the park. Just call me with questions and I can help you write up what you want.

Tiny Dancer Our Tiny Dancer, Ann Harran, died March 4th after her battle with Dementia. She’ll be missed by many, especially on the dance floor! She is loved on BOTH sides of the clouds. She always said it was RUDE to ask a lady her age, and that my tongue will stick out of the grave if I tell anyone. Suffice it to say, she was OLD enough to vote and OLD enough to drink. And YOUNG enough to dance! Donations to Alzheimer’s research or St. Jude’s Children’s Hos-pital, if you wish.

Thank you, Anny Jr.

6 The Ridgewood Review - April, 2021Let’s Get Moving

Once again, Ridgewood, we had a great time singing and dancing the evening away. The fun started at 4pm with our resident songbirds Dave Bailey and Dick Herald accompanied by Al Lang on guitar. Luckily Angie Vallett helped the boys out with some songs of her own during the evening. Felt so good to hear our old friends singing away. Thank you all for your time and voices! Thank you, Jack and Fran Hayes, for once again stepping up and organizing a fun evening for us all. We all really needed a bit of fun and we sure had some. It was great to see Ursula McDonald and her line dancing crew back out there having some fun. It’s been a year Ursula, but you and the ladies still had it going on! And hats off to our songstress and comedian Lorraine Poist for leading a group in a rendition of the Unicorn song. It was so fun to see the group you had up there singing and doing the hand gestures for that song. Especially loved Al Lang and Dave Bailey making like monkeys and elephants. So good to see people up and joining in the fun.

11The Ridgewood Review - April, 2021Ridgewood Social Association

The Social Association Board members are elected for a one year term at our January Meeting. The last board was elected in 2018 and served two years ending in January of 2020. Since the extraordinary events of 2020 occurred there was no election of new board members in January 2021. Fran Hayes has agreed to stay on as President until the January 2022 meeting. All other board seats are currently vacant and will remain vacant until the 2022 meeting. Everyone, please start thinking about joining our board. We should have all nominations in by the December meeting for elections to be held at the January meeting. We need some new people to step up and join in. We do not require full time residents – we welcome our “Snowbird” residents to join the board. If the events of 2020 have taught us one thing, it is that meetings and discussions can easily be conducted remotely. I cannot stress enough, if we do not get volunteers, we will not have a board. That will put into question whether we have any special dinners, dances, potlucks, etc. for the next year. None of the activities in this park happen without someone coming forward and volunteering. President - conduct monthly meetings October thru April, co-ordinate with each Activity Chairperson to ensure they have what they need for their Dinner, Dance, Potluck, etc. Vice President – conduct monthly meeting in absence of Pres-ident, attend monthly meetings. Work with President to ensure each activity chairperson has what they need. Purchase Agent – attend monthly meeting, purchase supplies for clubhouse dinners, potlucks, and any special item approved by the Residents and/or the Board. Secretary – attend monthly meetings, take notes and prepare a written record of the meeting. This person does not need to be a female - you guys can write, too. Treasurer – attend monthly meetings, prepare monthly Trea-surer Report. As treasurer you would keep accurate records of all transactions – all money coming in and going out, write checks, balance checking account, keep track of petty cash.

Holidays Let’s all assume by next fall we can get together. Let’s assume we will be playing cards in the clubhouse and having some fun. Let’s all just assume life will be back to some type of normal. That being the case – do we want to have a Thanksgiving Dinner, Christmas Tea and Christmas Dinner? It was a very bleak year 2020, so I am hoping that 2021/2022 will be much, much better. We need some volunteers to step forward and say yes, they want to chair one of the Dinners or Tea. Anyone who has lived here for any length of time, knows that there will be more help than you will need. Everyone wants to help but we always lack someone taking charge. When you chair an event or activity, you set the standard for what you want to happen. You will have loads of support from people in this park. But we still always need just one parson to step up and take charge. Think about what interests you and plan on getting involved for next season. As the chair you will have the advice of past chairpersons but the freedom to do things your own way. We just ask that the person in charge get their group of volunteers organized. We have dec-orations from past events but are open to adding to them. Think about getting involved. Contact Fran Hayes if you would like to chair the Thanksgiving Dinner, Christmas Dinner or Christmas Tea. I can tell you right now, if someone does not come forward we will no longer have these dinners. We need people to say they will chair or our dinners and potlucks, actually most of our park activities, will cease as they did in 2020. You will never be alone as the chairperson, you will have loads of help. If you are at all interested, please contact Fran Hayes. You can be a part time or fulltime resident. We just need people who want to get involved and have some fun.

Snowbird or Summer Departure Checklist

Each spring our Snowbirds get ready to go back up north and they should make sure the office has their northern phone number and address. If someone is taking care of your place, let the office know. If you have given permission for someone to park in your drive, let the office know. For those fulltime residents, if you go on vacation, make sure the office has a number to reach you. Here are a few tips to think about before you head north:• Trees – make sure all fruit is removed off the trees prior to your

departure. It is a mess and draws animals, rats, who feast on them all over your yard.

• Cut back your trees and shrubs before you leave. Get all the weeds out before you leave. If you’re gone for any length of time you may need to have someone weed before you come back. Everything grows like crazy here in the summer.

• Turn off the water.• Turn off electric to your water heater.• Set Thermostat at 80-85 degrees – Humistat should be at 60%• Cancel newspaper if you have it delivered• Unplug TV, electronics• Refrigerator – stop ice maker. If you leave food in freezer, it’s a

good idea to place a small plastic container with water in it in the freezer. Once its frozen place a coin on top. When you come back, if the penny is on the bottom and not the top, your items have defrosted to the point they should be tossed out. If the penny is on top then your food is most likely ok.

• Stop delivery of your mail a week before you leave and make sure you fill out the forward mail forms at the Post Office or online.

• Store all loose items, flower pots, bikes, chairs, etc. in the shed. Flower pots can do some damage in a wind storm or hurricane.

• Lower your awnings or make sure you have someone designated to lower them in case of a storm.

April Funnies• I fired myself from cleaning the house. I didn’t like

my attitude and I got caught drinking on the job.• My Mom didn’t raise a dummy, and if she did it was my brother

or my sister, either one. • If you can’t look back at your younger self and realize that you

were an idiot some of the time, you are probably still an idiot. • This cleaning with alcohol is total bull%$%#. NOTHING gets done

after that first bottle. • To the lady who flipped me off when I honked at you, your phone

probably isn’t on top of your car anymore…..just saying. • I asked my daughter to give me the phone book. She laughed

at me, called me a dinosaur and lent me her iPhone. So….the spider is dead, the iPhone is broken and my daughter is furious!

• As I watched the dog chasing his tail, I thought dogs are easily amused. The I realized I was watching the dog chase his tail.

• I finally figured out what I want to be when I get older…..YOUNG-ER!

• I haven’t tried Yoga, but I have tried bending over to pick up my keys, so I’m pretty sure I would hate yoga.

• It turns out that when asked who your favorite child is, you’re supposed to pick one of your own. I know that now.

• I can’t believe I forgot to go to the gym today. That’s 7 years in a row now.

• Wearing a mask inside your home is now highly recommended. Not so much to prevent Covid-19 but to stop eating.

• I told my wife how thankful I was to have someone I enjoyed being quarantined with. She said, “Must be nice.”

• The older you get the more you appreciate cancelled plans, early nights, thunderstorms and alcohol that is on sale.

• A shout out to everyone who’s ever frantically looked for your cell phone….while talking on it. You’re my kind of people.

• All these men bitching about wearing a face mask….try wearing a bra for a week in August.

• Something we never talk about when it comes to being an adult is how much we debate keeping a cardboard box because you know…it’s a really good box.

• Put a glass of wine in each room of your house and call it a wine tour.

• Damn, I wish one of my personalities loved to clean. • Brain cells, hair cells and skin cells – they all die constantly, but

freaking fat cells seem to have eternal life….• A man boards a plane with six kids. After they get settled in their

seats, a woman sitting across the aisle leans over to him an asks, “Are all of those kids yours?” He replies, “No, I work for a condom company. These are customer complaints.”
