Last week’s Blue Dragon’s girls’ basketball team saw one win and one loss, moving the team to a 7-11 win/loss for the season. On Tuesday, the Lady Dragons started off with a double header against Parker. This was their first match-up against this team this sea- son, and the Pheasants came to play. While the Pheasants scored the first three points, the Blue Dragons scored two of their own right after. The two teams stayed neck-and-neck throughout the game, ending the 1st quarter 15-13. The same pattern continued through the second quarter, with the Blue Dragons staying only a few points ahead. In the third quarter, the Pheasants ran a hard and fast game, forcing the Blue Dragons to play harder. The Blue Dragons countered with a block by #15 Peyton Hove to keep the lead. Ultimately, the hard plays worked against the Dragons, and they lost the lead during the fourth quarter as the Pheasants inched ahead. Despite a corner- court 3-point shot by #24 Lauren Heesch, turnovers and possession losses caused by simple mistakes kept the Blue Dragons from catch- ing up, and the game ended 56-59. On Thursday, the team traveled to Sioux Valley to match up against the Cossacks. Sioux Valley jumped out of the gate and scored the first six points, but Garretson quickly caught up and surpassed it by play- ing some good offense, holding Sioux Valley to its low score until well into the second quarter, when the Cossacks played some catch-up and managed to increase their score to 21 versus Garretson’s 26. A block, and later a 3-point shot by Heesch, kept the Cossacks from closing that gap. The Cossacks kept the Blue Dragons on their toes, keeping within one point of the Blue Drag- ons into the 3rd quarter. It looked as though the Sioux Valley team would surpass the Blue Dragons in the 4th quarter as they tied up the score, but the Blue Dragons re- sponded and kept the lead. A great steal by #23 Lily Ranschau resulted in another two points at the basket with only 1:32 remaining to bring the score to 50-46, and the Blue Dragons ended the game with a score of 56-49. The Blue Dragons played against Baltic at home on Tuesday (results unavailable at press time), and will play their final regular season game on Thursday, February 27 at Dell Rapids.
