The former, owned by Phipps and Janney, was made the 3-1 morning line choice, while the latter--campaigned by Calumet Farm--was set at 5-1. AI just didn=t want to get down on the inside where maybe we might get stuck around the first turn, like we sort of did in the Preakness,@ said Orb=s trainer Shug McGaughey at Wednes- day=s draw breakfast at Belmont Park. Owned by Willis Horton, the striking chestnut drew the 10-hole and was established at 20-1 on the morning line. Cont. from p1 A force to be reckoned with in the >Test of aChampion= is trainer Todd Pletcher, who had five

entered yesterday,including Win Star=sRevolutionary (War Pass). The likelyfavorite of the quintet,the winner of the GII Louisiana Derbydrew post nine and wasearmarked at 9-2 onthe early line. AmongPletcher=s other runnersare Overanalyze (DixieUnion) (Post 3: 12-1);

Midnight Taboo (Langfuhr) (Post 8: 30-1); and Palace Malice (Curlin) (Post 12: 15-1).

Pletcher saddles the lone filly in this year=s Belmont,Unlimited Budget (Street Sense), who will break frompost 13. She is 8-1 on the morning line. AWe were kindof hoping Unlimited Budget would draw toward theoutside,@ admitted Pletcher, who collected his sole priorBelmont victory with another filly, Rags to Riches (A.P.Indy), in 2007. AI think PalaceMalice, maybe,will show somespeed, so we=rehappy to beoutside ofFreedom Childand Oxbow.@ Pletcher added,AI think [thedistance] will suit[Revolutionary]well. He=s a horsewho turns off really easily. I think he=ll settle in the firstpart of the race. That=s important if you=re going to getthe mile and a half.@ Added Mike Repole, who isrepresented by Midnight Taboo, Overanalyze andUnlimited Budget, ATodd and I spoke about UnlimitedBudget being on the outside. She got the 13 post. Iactually like that Palace Malice is on the inside [of her].I think he=ll go and she=ll follow him. We wantedMidnight Taboo and Overanalyze inside the top eight.@

Garnering plenty of pre-race buzz is West PointThoroughbreds, St. Elias Stable and Spendthrift Farm=sFreedom Child (Malibu Moon). Drawing the two hole,the winner of the GII Peter Pan S. is 8-1 on the morningline. AI think we were hoping to get a little farthertoward the middle, but we dealt with Post 1 in thePeter Pan, so we=ll just deal with Post 2 in theBelmont,@ said trainer Tom Albertrani. AI don=t know ifhe=s the kind of horse that wants to be behind horses,because he=s got a free-running style.@

Added Albertrani, AHe=ll probably want to find himselfclear into the first turn, whether he has to use himself alittle bit into the turn like he did in the Peter Pan whenhe broke real slow and worked his way to the front. Itjust depends on how he leaves there. He=ll just have towork his way on the inside there and see where heends up.@ Of the past 15 runnings of theBelmont, all but two--Afleet Alex in 2005 andPoint Given in 2001--have been taken byhorses who didn=t winthe the Derby nor thePreakness. Includedamong those areGolden Soul (Perfect Soul{Ire}), who finishedrunner-up in the KentuckyDerby, but bypassed thePreakness S. The CharlesFipke hombred, who is10-1 on the morning line,drew the outside post.AHe=s a colt that handleseverything that=s thrown at him,@ said trainer DallasStewart. AWe=ll just see. Hopefully, he=ll be able to savesome ground somehow, some way, and we=ll see whathappens. It=s a bit of a challenge from Post 14, but he=sthe type of horse that=s met a lot of challenges.@

Drawing a Big Crowd... Billed as a rubbermatch between the winners of thefirst two legs of the Triple Crown, Saturday=s GI Belmont S. promises to be a good onewith a full field of 14 raring to go. Aftera flurry of activity between 6-6:30 a.m.on a beautiful June morning at BelmontPark, the action shifted to the spaciousGarden Terrace Dining Room for thedraw. Trainer Shug McGaughey has heldup quite well under the spotlightthroughout the Triple Crown trail, andcontinues to enjoy every moment sinceOrb (Malibu Moon)=s powerful victory inthe GI Kentucky Derby and disappointingfourth as the heavy favorite in the GIPreakness S. Orb was installed as the 3-1 choice on Eric Donovan=s morning-line. AI=ve had a great time,@ McGaugheycommented. AI told everybody that weare going to go have some fun with this.Even though we were disappointed in Maryland, I=veenjoyed the whole thing very much and look forward todoing it again [Saturday].@

Fellow Hall of Famer D. Wayne Lukas will be well-represented by Preakness hero Oxbow (AwesomeAgain) as well as live longshot Will Take Charge(Unbridled=s Song). AIf I were a betting man, I would be putting him in mysuperfecta at least,@ Lukas warned of Will Take Charge,who was overlooked at 20-1 on the morning-line. Todd Pletcher will be a busy man shortly after 6 p.m.Saturday. The former Lukas assistant entered five for

the big one, including the filly UnlimitedBudget (Street Sense), Derby third-placefinisher Revolutionary (War Pass), andlongshots Midnight Taboo (Langfuhr),Overanalyze (Dixie Union) and PalaceMalice (Curlin). Is Pletcher glad that owner Mike Repoledidn=t have five more 3-year-olds eligiblefor the Belmont, NYRA=s Andy Serlingasked. AYeah, we talked about a couple ofother ones believe it or not, but I think wefinally narrowed it down,@ he replied. Repole, a native New Yorker, will havehis blue-and-orange silks carried by thetrio of Midnight Taboo, Overanalyze andUnlimited Budget. AI=ve been coming to Belmont for

30 years and it=s the number one race that I want towin,@ Repole said. AFor some people, it=s the Derby, butfor me, it=s the Belmont.@

Trainer Tom Albertrani made it no secret of how hefelt about the predicted rain in the forecast for thisweekend after Freedom Child (Malibu Moon)=s tour-de-force over the sloppy going in the GII Peter Pan S. May 11. AWe=ve been watching the forecast, and it=s gettingbetter for us every day,@ Albertrani admitted. Trainer Dallas Stewart remains confident in GoldenSoul (Perfect Soul {Ire}), a surprising second at 34-1 inthe Derby. AI thought the race would take a little bit out of him,but he never missed any time,@ Stewart said. AHisenergy has been great, and I think the distance shouldsuit him.@ Trainer Kiaran McLaughlin was the last to head to thepodium to discuss the well-bred Incognito (A.P. Indy)=schances. PATINACK HORSES REMAIN POPULAR AT MM The horses being sold as part of the reduction ofNathan Tinkler=s Patinack Farm remained the flavor ofthe day during Wednesday=s second session of the

memory in the form of Longport (Aus) (Casino Prince{Aus}), was knocked down to that filly=s trainer JohnThompson for a session-topping bid of A$300,000(US$286,311). Longport, who sold last week forA$800,000 to trainer Danny Bougoure, won the G2 Tea Rose S. and was runner-up in the G1 Flight S.in 2012 and added a second-place finish in this year=sG1 Vinery Stud S. Thompson was also the trainer ofthe horses= half-brother Run For Wilson (Aus)(Shamardal), winner of the Listed Breeders= Plate atRandwick in 2009. Lot 1705 was one of 15 horses toreach six figures Wednesday, and was followed by lot1839, a son of Patinack stallion Husson (Arg) and thesecond produce from dual champion Sun Classique(Aus) (Fuji Kiseki {Jpn}). A treble Group 1 winner inSouth Africa, Sun Classique beat the boys in the G1Dubai Sheema Classic and was acquired for A$2 millionin foal to Oasis Dream (GB) at the 2010 Inglis EasterBroodmare Sale. Her first foal is a colt by theJuddmonte stallion that was sold to George MooreBloodstock for A$875,000 at the 2012 Inglis EasterYearling Sale. Lot 1839 was hammered down to MagicMillions, as agent, for A$260,000 (US$248,104). Theother horse to fetch better than a quarter-million dollarswas lot 1781, a daughter of Stratum (Aus) from Sarvon(Aus) (Zabeel {NZ}), that was knocked down to MagicMillions for A$250,000 (US$238,592). Sarvon was aA$400,000 acquisition by Patinack with the Stratumfilly in utero in 2011. Buoyed by the Patinack horses,the select portion of the sale grossed over A$12.7million, up over A$5 million from last year. The averageof A$39,976 represented a 24.8% gain over 2012. "Itwas more of the same from yesterday," Magic MillionsManaging Director Vin Cox reported. "The mostrewarding part of the sale was the strong participationof buyers, particularly those from abroad. Our team putin a lot of work in attracting buyers to the sale and itwas good to see so many participating," Cox added.

BUTLER FEARS ‘PUBLIC EXECUTION’ Trainer Gerard Butler has spoken out about hisupcoming hearing at the British Horseracing Authority,expressing his wish that any ruling Adoesn=t become apublic execution.@ Facing a potential ban as a result ofhis use of the drug ASungate@ on his horses whichcontained the prohibited substance stanozolol, theNewmarket-based conditioner is apprehensive aboutwhat is to come. AI have no option but to fear for theworst and I=ll just have to pick up the pieces,@ he toldthe Racing Post. AIf it=s to be a ban, it will be anabsolute disaster for both myself and my family but Iwon=t walk away from racing in the long term. The BHAhave to do their investigation, which is fine, but I justhope any hearing doesn=t become a public executionbecause everyone loves an execution. King’s Stand Favorite for Reckless Abandon... Trainer Clive Cox is looking at the G1 King=s Stand S.for Reckless Abandon (GB) (Exchange Rate) followinghis promising comeback effort at Haydock. Last year=sG1 Prix Morny and Middle Park S. winner was a close-up third under a penalty in that venue=s G2 Temple S.over five furlongs May 25 and is likely to stay at thattrip for the opening sprint at Royal Ascot June 18.AReckless Abandon will probably be going for the King=sStand,@ he told the Racing Post. AWe have kept him inthe Diamond Jubilee to keep our options open, but Ithink a stiff five furlongs will suit him better. He ran agreat race in the Temple S. and has come out of therace very well. I am very pleased with him and hestands a good chance.@
