    The transatlantic telegraph cablewas the first cable used for

    telegraph communications laidacross the floor of the Atlantic

    Ocean. It crossed from theTelegraph Field.

    A major advancement incommunication nonetheless.

    The police Department inDetroit, Mich, begins installing

    mobile radios, operating around

    2 MHz, in their squad cars. They

    encounter many problems such

    as overcrowding on the channels

    and terrible interference.

    The U.S Congress passes thefederal Communications

    commission. They decide who

    gets to use certain radiofrequencies. Most channelswere reserved for emergency

    use and the government.Act of 1934, with a goal of

    universal service at reasonablecharges as its key tenet. The

    FCC was formed.

    FM Police RadioCommunications begin in

    Hartford, CT and themobile radios are able tooperate at 30 to 40MHz

    and become much morecommon between police

    departments, and thewealthy.

    Several private companies andorganizations begin using these same

    radios for personal gain

    FirstMobil -r dio-t l one service is

    established in St.Louis, Miss.The system is comprised of6 channels and add up to

    150MHx. The project isapproved by the FCC, but

    due to massive

    interference, theequipment barely works

    AT&T comes outwith the first- ra io-

    car-phones

    that can be usedonly on the highway

    between NY andBoston; they wereknown as push- to-

    talk phones.AR&T declares the

    project a failure.

    The First real carphones, not car radios,

    come into play acrossthe United States.

    Although, the system isstill using push-to-talk

    phones, it is an

    improved version thatactually works.

    The self-dialing capabilityis now upgraded to 4 0

    MHz and becomesstandard in the U.S. Thisnew service is known as(IMTS) improved mobile

    telephone service.

    Company gets thelicense; they are ina partnership with

    AT&T which is ageneral effort to

    battle the stubbornFCC.

    important years in cellphone evolution. ThecellularTechnology

    Industry. Association iscreated and helps tomake the industry into

    an empire.

    In this year it becameavailable to public.
