USGBC National Outstanding Single Family Project Award Winner – Located in Venice, Calif., the Brooks Residence is a 1,700 sq. ft. LEED Platinum home. The 100-year-old home in a well-established, low-income neighborhood was restored. The goal was to reduce the footprint/impact of the house on the planet through water, energy and material eciency. Above and beyond that goal, the home design works to restore habitats for birds, bees and butteries and creates educational opportunities for the local community.
Our mission is to aid in the transition to permanent housing while providing portable, temporary, homeless shelters designed to encourage and support those in our program. We also provide people with connections to resources and services needed to stay o the streets.
Our vision is to bridge the gap between design and humanity by raising awareness of the homeless issue and inspiring collaboration and additional resources toward the cause to end homelessness.

This project was taken from initial design concept through permit by myself with super-vision from Duvivier Architects. The client was adamant about having a spanish style home and I am proud of the compromise we designed that included some contemporary elements taking ques from Irving Gill.

The project is about bigness and hybridity; a city within a city. The site is bound by Grand Ave, First St., Hill St., and Second St. I have strategically located social housing, and social services to face Hill Street in order to address the disparity at that location and to work with the new federal courthouse that is to be built. Similarly on Grand I have placed the hotel, condo and cultural components facing the Disney Concert hall. A percentage of the high end prots will help fund the social services and social housing facilities in order to have nicer facilities for the community. The project is meant to encompass the notions of an entire city within two city blocks.

This high density housing project has 24 units, each having prevalent outdoor spaces. Each level of the project has its own unique feel. The rst oor consists of patios and balconies, the second story has vertical gardens that are double height and the top oor has roof terraces. The community center in this building is a vertical art gallery tower.
The site is on Venice Blvd. between Helms and Vera. Due to our prime location in Los Angeles, I believe that all housing should have outdoor space incor-porated into the design. People should interact with nature in order to be reminded that we need to care for the environment.

A mediatheque is dened as aplace where information is stored and displayed utilizing the newest technologies. If the mediatheque is the library of the future, it must be sustainable. Natural light can decrease energy use and technology should be used to create green architecture that is also aesthetically pleasing and functional.
The site is on Hollywood Blvd. between Wilcox and Cahuenga. Some thoughts that come to mind are “sex, drugs and rock and roll”, “the freaks come out at night”, and “phoney people come to prey”. Also it is obvious that there is a mix of locals, tourists and homeless people in Hollywood.
I decorated, planned and coordinated a graduation party for the class of 2009 at a funky downtown studio space. Similarly I planned a Dol Ganji, which is a celebration of the rst birthday in Korean tradi-tion for one of my studio professors. Also, during school we did a lot of fund raisers for a publication called MEANS, that I was one of the founders of. The following are a selection of my favorite photos.
