TIPS FOR READING AND APPLYING THE BIBLE Welcome to part one of the 2016 Bible reading plan! This plan offers two options. PLAN A will ultimately lead you through the entire Bible in chronological order. PLAN B will lead you through the New Testament. Each plan has you reading every day. It is important to remember that the goal is not to get through the plan. The goal of Bible reading is to deepen your relationship with God. With that in mind, do not get discouraged if you get behind schedule. Jump back in and keep going! To help you be consistent, try to have a set time and place each day for your reading. When reading the Bible always take some time to prepare your heart through prayer. Ask God to open your ears to hear what He has to say so that you can more fully live for Him. It is important to remember that the Bible is God’s revelation of Himself to us. It is God speaking to us about Himself so that we can have a right relationship with Him. This plan is going to take you on a journey through several books of the Bible. Each book will require unique questions to help you understand it better but there are certain questions that you can ask regardless of the passage. 1. What is God saying about Himself (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) in this passage? 2. What is God saying about people in this passage? 3. How can this passage help me love God and people better? 4. What do I need to do because of this passage? READING THE BIBLE AS A FAMILY The goal is for your family to spend time reading, discussing, and applying the Bible passage of the day 1 to 3 times per week. 1. Set a time and place (This could be as simple as one of your meal times). 2. Pray together before you read. 3. Involve the entire family in the reading if possible. 4. Discuss the passage for application. Questions for Discussion: Ask one or more of the following questions to help you discuss the passage. 1. What is your favorite part of this passage? 2. What does this teach us about God? 3. What does this teach us about living for God? 4. What do we need to do because of this passage? 5. What questions do you have because of this passage?
